[style=width: 370px; background-color:#cea39e; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px; color: #dddddd;]AND AT ONCE I KNEW I WAS NOT MAGNIFICENT even after four years of living within the enormous hall, getting around dragonsreach was still a problem for titania.
she was clever enough, but there was something about the enormosity of the jarl's residence that the young breton just couldn't get a grip on. it was as if the very corridors themselves moved around on their own, changing her routes on a daily basis. titania had lost count of the number of times she'd gotten lost, and she was sure getting around would always pose a problem, especially if, after four years of residing in dragonsreach's stone walls, she /still/ didn't know how to get from point a to point b without losing her mind.
thankfully, the one route she used the most was ingrained in her mind. the way to her lady's quarters was well worn by titania's feet, she knew it without consciously wondering about which way to turn at the end of each corridor. as such, she didn't have to wake so early to present herself to rosalind each morning. she'd taken her time getting ready, dressing in her usual light blue gown, tying her wavy locks back into a loose bun at the back of her head and slipping her feet into her best, but still well worn boots. only after she had preened and was confident she looked presentable did titania leave her room, making the trek from her room along to the quarters rosalind shared with her husband.
she was grateful for the distance between their rooms, even if titania missed the closeness she and rosalind had shared in winterhold. since she had become the nord's handmaiden, titania had loved her like a sister, and at first it seemed weird not to be at her side constantly. but rosalind was living a new life now, with her husband, and although it had taken years, titania was used to doing her own thing as well. but, as ever, her duty was to rosalind, and titania was always there if her friend had need of her.
finally she came to stand outside the double doors that opened into the jarl's room. knowing the jarl would already be up and about around dragonsreach, titania had no fear of knocking on the door lightly and waiting to be allowed in. but something wasn't right. she could hear noises from inside the room. curious, she leaned her ear against the wood, only to hear someone weeping. slowly she turned the catch on the door, the hinges creaking quietly as it swung inward. "lady rosalind?" she called gently, not wanting to spook her, or cause her to be alarmed. seeing her lady hunched over and crying was enough to cause titania to rush to the blonde's side, fetching the hankerchief she always carried from a pocket.
"why do you cry, m'lady?" titania asked, holding out her hankerchief for rosalind to take if she needed it. "please don't weep, rose." she cooed, her maternal instincts taking over, as as she dropped the formalities. seeing rosalind so distraught was heartbreaking, more so because titania had no idea what was causing it. already a thousand and one reasons were entering into titania's head about what it was that could have caused rosalind to cry. she was one of the strongest people the young breton knew, more so than many of the men she had met throughout her life.

[/div] tagged: titania/ indie words: 628[/div] there were too many words to describe just how rosalind felt about what was going on in her life. on the one hand, she was happy with what she had; a roof over her head, a husband who loved her and food in her belly - what more could a woman ask for? well, unlike the food that filled her stomach every day, there was something more that the young countess wanted that she just couldn't seem to obtain. a child. a beautiful child to call her own and have carry on both her own and her husbands legacy. if anything, carrying on balgruuf's line was much more important than her own. the city of whiterun would always need a jarl and rosalind was damned if she couldn't give not only herself or husbands an heir, but her people as well. it was a major amount of stress that she tended to carry around every day and every day it just seemed to get harder and harder to keep on a straight face. she could tell that there was a lot of pressure on her shoulders to deliver an heir and, as much as she wanted it, as hard as both herself and her husband tried, she just couldn't seem to get pregnant.
at breakfast, rosalind had kept her face free of any signs of stress or being upset, not wanting balgruuf to worry about her as well as the many things that were going on in the city. however, after their breakfast was finished and he gave her a kiss in parting, she felt the emotions just overwhelm her completely. with barely any time to spare, she had made it into the master bedroom and closed the door. not a moment later, she felt the tears start to fall down her cheeks and soft sobs escape her lips. she leaned on the doors for a moment before she pushed herself off and walked towards the bed. falling to her knees before the edge of the bed, she let the gates flood open and eventually she was almost in hysterics. it had been three years and it was just now that she was showing any sign of being discouraged. usually it was her who was optimistic, stating that there was still hope and that they would bare a child together. but now she wasn't so sure.
folding her arms on top of the bed, she dug her face into her forearms and sobbed and sobbed. there was no one around; she was completely alone so she felt no shame in her actions. no embarrassment.
until there was a knock on the door.
she barely had enough time to stop before titania was in her sleeping quarters, holding a handkerchief in her hand as she rushed to the blonde's side. for a moment, rosalind tried to make it look as though she wasn't crying, but it was painfully obvious that she had been. still, her pride was in tact and, as much as she possibly could, she composed herself. graciously taking the offered handkerchief, she wiped her eyes and managed to speak through deep breaths, "oh, it's nothing..." she started before she let out a forced laugh, coated with tears, "i'm just being a silly woman, that's all..." she explained as she dried her eyes.
as hard as she tried, she knew that she wouldn't be able to hide anything from titania. after being dear friends for so long, there wasn't anything they didn't know about one another, "can you close the door, please?" she asked before she sniffled and gestured towards the doors with a nod, "and lock them? i would prefer that no one saw me in such a state as i am now." she explained before letting out another forced laugh. notes: i second that. my poor rose. ):

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#cea39e; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px; color: #dddddd;]AND AT ONCE I KNEW I WAS NOT MAGNIFICENT titania adored rosalind. the nord was her best friend, like a sister to her, and in some ways, titania felt like she had to protect her. she was worried when rosalind was betrothed to someone so far away for fear that the husband to be would prove cruel, but in fact he had been the very opposite. and when rosalind had told titania that she was to come with her to whiterun, it had been one of the moments of sheer joy that titania had felt. and so seeing her so upset now was awful. that fact that her best friend was so distraught and titania could do nothing but watch for the time being made her feel so useless. once she knew the cause, titania would do everything in her power to make rosalind smile. and if her determination wasn't enough, perhaps the jarl would help. even so, titania would hate for him to get involved. she had a hunch this was more of a woman problem than anything else.
"oh, it's nothing.."
well, that was a lie if titania had ever heard one. the thick, forced laugh that punctuated it was enough to prove that. she stopped herself from rolling her eyes, and instead kept them trained on the nord as she took titania's offered hankerchief. "you are not a silly woman." titania insisted. "you're allowed to cry sometimes, m'lady. it's just a shame to see you being so upset all alone." it was hard to keep the concern out of her voice, but eventually titania gave up. rosalind knew how much titania cared about her, but it was hard to act the strong one. titania had never really been particularly strong in anyway, but she would try. for rosalind.
"of course." with a stiff bow and small sigh, titania moved back over to the door. she wasn't fooled by rosalind's laughs, which sounded far too unnatural to be genuine, and it was clear she was very upset. but titania did as she was bid, shutting the door with a deep clunk, and turning the lock with another click. she pulled at it to make sure, satisfied when it barely budged. slowly, she walked back to rosalind's side, her blue eyes watching her friend carefully. gently she reached out to pet rosalind's mane of fair hair, put out of place by her burying her face in her arms. even with tears in her eyes and out of place hair, rosalind was still a beautiful young woman. titania's lips curved into a smile, taking rosalind's hand. "come. let me do your hair while you tell me what's wrong. like old times, m'lady." waiting for rosalind to get to her feet, titania led her over to one of the chairs, gesturing for her to sit down. titania was short enough so that doing rose's hair while her lady sat down never strained her back. reaching over for the brush, titania began to run it through rosalind's locks absent-mindedly. her full attention was still on rosalind's current dilemma, whatever that proved to be. "i'm ready when you are, m'lady." titania prompted her in case she lost face. titania truly believed she could help rosalind no matter what it was, but it was impossible to do so with she was battling the unknown. [/div] tagged: titania/ indie words: 472[/div] as much as rosalind tried to hide her emotions, she knew that titania was no fool and would be able to se right through whatever mask she was putting up. it was refreshing and comforting knowing someone knew her that well, just as rosalind knew titania. the two of them were best friends and rosalind wouldn't have it any other way. there was no one else she could trust more than her housemaid. the love they had for one another was completely plaotinc but stronger than a lot of romances out there. for that, rosalind was grateful. hearing her friend's reassuring words, rosalind wiped her tears and sniffled a tad, comforted by her dear friend's words, "maybe for most. but i'm of noble blood. i'm unlike others, i can not let my people see my weakness." she explained before she reached out and cupped her friend's cheek, "except for you, my dear friend." she explained and smiled softly, showing her affection in touch and words.
her friend's concern made her heart swell; it was a comfort knowing someone cared as much as titania did, "i'm not alone now." she added and flashed her friend a smile, "thank you for showing up...even if it was uninvited." she explained. after she had asked to close and lock the door, she watched the younger woman do so without complaint, "and please, don't call me m'lady tonight. you're my dearest friend and we are alone. you know you make call me by my name." she stated, pushing the formailities aside.
once titania had returned and offered to do rosalind's hair, her face lit up a bit. she loved having her hair brushed and done when she was upset and titania knew it. nodding softly, she stood and walked over to her dresser, taking a seat on her stood before she felt titania start on rosalind' long, blond locks. when her friend edged her on to start talking, rosalind did the opposite, keeping her mouth shut for a moment or two to sort through all of her thoughts and trying to get them into sentences that would make sense to anyone outside of her own mind.
finally, she spoke, "do you think that i'll ever get pregnant?" she finally asked, bluntly. she wanted the truth and she knew titania would give it to her, "or do you think that i am baren and useless?" she added, trying to keep the tears at bay, but they were more than evident in her voice. she didn't mean to dump such a load on her friend, but she had no one else ot talk to - not even her beloved husband. before titania could answer, rosalind chimed in again, "i'm sorry. i shouldn't ask you that." she added and shook her head, wiping a stray tear from her eye. notes: i second that. my poor rose. ):

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#cea39e; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px; color: #dddddd;]AND AT ONCE I KNEW I WAS NOT MAGNIFICENT titania tutted gently as rosalind insisted her noble birth meant she shouldn't shed tears so freely. "no, my lady." titania retorted, her tone respectful as always, though she knew rosalind always seemed to admire her honesty. "crying is nothing to be ashamed of. let your people see you cry, and, i assure you, it will comfort them to see you do so. makes you seem more... well, common. like you share the same grief." titania struggled with the right words, which didn't happen very often, but it seemed rosalind was being stubborn on the matter. she sighed as rose laid a hand on her cheek, her lips widening into a smile to echo that of her friends.
titania's grin quickly turned bashful as rosalind mentioned her visit was unexpected. "i was just checking if you had any need of me, m'lady." the breton stated by means of explanation. "and if you don't mind me saying so, it seems you did." she grew more flustered when rose insisted she drop the formalities, a blush rising into her pale cheeks. it was always hard for titania to chop and change between the two, friend and servant, but if rose insisted, she'd do her best. "of course, rose. my mistake."
hearing nothing but rosalind's silence after prompting her, titania let out a sigh but also kept her mouth shut. in time, rosalind would speak, but for now, she seemed content to simply let titania run the brush through her hair. titania had always been envious of rose's luscious locks, spun like fine gold, but doing rose's hair for her was as close as she'd ever get to it. her own mousy brown hair was nowhere near as beautiful or desirable, but there was nothing she could do about it.
when rose finally spoke, titania was still stuck in her little reverie, and it took her a moment to get her words together. even when she began to pay full attention to what it was rose was saying, titania was stunned into silence. the brush stopped midway in rose's hair as titania thought of what possible advice she could give her friend. of course, titania knew the jarl and his wife had trouble conceiving, but hearing rosalind speak so must have meant that it was more of a problem than she had assumed. "you will get pregnant, rose. you'll see." she insisted, wanting her friend to see the truth of it. she shook her head slowly when rosalind apologized, a sad smile on her face. "don't be sorry. you know you can talk to me about this." standing back to approve her handiwork, and to make sure there were no more knots in rose's hair, titania put down the brush on the dresser.
slowly, she walked around to stand before rose, before kneeling at her feet. "do you want to know what i think, rose?" titania asked, her bright blue orbs fixing on the darker sapphires of her lady. "i think the gods knew this would happen. the war, the dragons.. everything. imagine having a young child, or being with child during this time. it'd be a nightmare." titania couldn't bear to think of how the jarl's children would fare in such dark days. she didn't doubt that the jarl and his men were capable of protecting them, but having them in constant danger would drive their guardians to madness. "the divines have spared you, rose. when everything has calmed down, you will get pregnant. i promise you." it was stupid of her to promise so, titania knew, but she wanted to see rose smile. and if that meant making a promise on behalf of the deities, then so be it.
giving rosalind one last reassuring smile and patting her hand gently, titania got to her feet and began running the brush through her hair again. she braided her ladies hair in silence, expert hands working fast wrapping it around to sit on her head in one of the many styles she'd heard were popular in the imperial city. putting a hair pin or two to hold it in place, titania walked around the front to pin back any loose strands of hair. "so you've still been trying then? to have children?" titania asked, her eyes flickering to rosie's face for a second before turning her attention back to her hair. it wasn't really any of her business, but she felt like she should ask, if only to get rose talking more. "there we go." she finally said, moving back with hands on her hips to admire rose's hair. "beautiful. as always." ROSALIND | 768 | :c [/style]

[/div] tagged: titania/ indie words: 743[/div] back when rosalind had first come to whiterun to meet balgruuf, she had only her brother to keep her company, but when it came down to getting everything set up, rosalind would have been completely alone, if she hadn't have asked titania to come along with her. her dearest friend was her only escape from complete and total loneliness as well as awkwardness. titania was her saving grace when it came to those days, and she didn't know what she would do without her then, as well as now. in fact, it was probably moreso, now that she had such a major problem on her hands. rosalind needed that backbone to keep herself steady and, as much as balgruuf made hr feel secure, no one could make her feel as complete as titania did. when she was younger, some used to think that the two of them were secret lovers - it had been the biggest rumor, when she was in winterhold. now that she was married to balgruuf and it was evident that she was completely in love, no one made that assumption anymore. now, all people did was aspire to have a friendship like their lady and her housemaid.
her explanation of letting her people see her cry made rose smile softly, "i suppose you're right..." she stated and nodded, "i won't keep it in so much anymore." she added before she drew in a deep breath, "but i guess the main reason i was holding it in was because i didn't ant to admit to myself that..." she paused and looked down at her hands, "nevermind. it's not important." she explained, still trying to keep it all inside, even after titania had just said not to do so and let it all out. it was worse because of whom she was keeping her sadness from; it wasn't just her people but balgruuf and titania. she had kept it from the two most important people in her life and she still couldn't bring herself to admit it to them.
however, as titania started to run the brush through rosalind's hair, the walls started to crumble down and soon rosalind asked the question she had been wanting to ask anyone she could. not that it was all out in the open, she could feel a weight lift off her shoulders as well as the undeniable feeling of despair. titania wouldn't hold back and would tell her the truth about it all; they had a mutual agreement back in winterhold that the housemaid wouldn't just tell rosalind what she wanted to hear. so, when titania said, confidently, that rosalind would get pregnant, it made her feel a whole lot better. at least other people hadn't given up hope, like she had almost done. her eyes followed titania as she walked around to face rosalind before she knelt before her. her eyes stayed on her friend, seeking the truth within her eyes as she told her just what she thought of the whole situation.
her explanation brought a genuine smile to the countess' lips, something that seemed so foreign a few moments ago, before the counsel of her friend. everything that was being said made sense and rosalind truly believed it. she would have to tell the same to balgruuf and lift his hopes the way that titania had risen her own. after the younger woman was finished speaking, rosalind reached out and wrapped her arms around her friend's neck, bringing her in for an embrace, "thank you, my friend." she replied before letting out a soft sob, "my dearest friend." she repeated before she pulled away and held titania by her shoulders an arms length away, "i don't know where i would be without you." she explained and laughed softly, a genuine one.
once titania had gone back to doing rosalind's hair, she was slightly thrown off by the question soon after, "yes..." she started before she blushedm "any chance we get, really." she added before biting on her lower lip with embarrassment, "though, it has been less frequent because of the war. he's not sleeping well and i can tell he's worried about it all." she explained and sighed. before long, she could see the finished product that titania had created and she smiled, "lovely. just lovely." she explained before she stood up and wiped the stray tears, "there. like it never happened." she added before she put on a smile and turned to her friend. notes: i love these two as fraaaans (:

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#cea39e; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px; color: #dddddd;]AND AT ONCE I KNEW I WAS NOT MAGNIFICENT a smile crossed titania's face as rosalind pulled her into a hug. she lifted her own arms up, patting her head gently, rubbing her back, all she could do to make her feel comforted. she retracted her arms as she felt rosalind pull away, a soft smile on her lips. "you'd be perfectly fine. just with no me." titania's smile turned sad almost immediately. she couldn't imagine doing anything else other than serving rosalind. the closest she'd ever come to leaving her service was at the college of winterhold, but duty had called. and the sisterly love the two girls shared was enough to convince titania that rosalind's side was where she needed to be.
rosalind's embarrassment about talking to titania about her sex life did nothing but cause the breton to grin. speaking about such things did not nearly affect titania the way it used to. it was a part of life, no different than breathing or eating. of course, she'd never actually had sex, but titania knew doing so probably wouldn't change her view on it. she'd just never been the type to blush and stammer about it the way most proper ladies were. it was just one of those things. she nodded understandably however, her smile turning knowing. even she had noticed the jarl looked more visibly drawn than usual. "like it never happened." titania echoed, giving her friend an encouraging smile. and it was perfectly true. rosalind looked as radiant as ever.
"would you like something to eat?" titania asked rosalind, knowing that despite looking her normal self, rosalind might not be exactly feeling too great just yet. food always seemed to help titania after she cried, even if it was just to feel full of something other than misery. "or what about tea? the new leaves in the larder are absolutely delicious." titania watched rosalind carefully. it was then that she decided she was getting tea, whether her lady wanted it or not. tea made everybody feel better.
"i'll be back shortly." titania said, curtsying gently and exiting before rosalind could protest at the open display of obedience. exiting the room, titania turned right, and right again to go down the stairs, heading towards dragonsreach's kitchen. after giving the chef her instructions, and the water was heated enough to let the tea steep proplerly. cups in hand, and with a few biscuits given to her by the chef himself, titania carefully made her way back upstairs, the tray holding the teapot balancing precariously on her hand. luckily she met no human traffic heading the other way. finally she was back at the door, rapping on it gently with her free hand to announce her return.
placing the tray down on the small table, titania poured rosalind a cup first, before pouring her own. "sip it, it's better hot." titania encouraged her, waiting to drink her own to see how rosalind liked it. "and the chef gave you some biscuits, too. that was nice of him, wasn't it?" titania was trying to keep the conversation light, away from anything that might cause rosalind grief. she just hoped rose had gotten the tears out of her system, and would be able to enjoy herself, as she deserved.

[/div] tagged: titania/ indie words: 567[/div] every day, she started to realize just how lucky she was to have a friend like titania. never in her life did she think that she would ever break down like she did today, but she was glad that it was only ania who saw her. rose was never a delicate woman and she disliked it when men treated her as such; she was ruler of whiterun, a hand of of flame in her right hand and a hand for healing on her left. the blond was more than capable of taking care of herself and it annoyed her that, just because she was of nibility and just because she was a woman, she was deemed fragile. now, with the dried tears on her cheeks, she thought of them right, which would only upset her more, if titania hadn't been there to comfort her and reassure her - she told rose everything she needed to hear. the young countess laughed at her words and shook her head, "no, i would be a wreck, without you." she explained, speaking the truth.
once titania was done with her hair, she turned her head from side to side, inspecting it and loving it with every second that passed. the younger woman of the two really knew how to do hair and rosalind was blessed to have such skilled hands at her disposal. people of whiterun would always comment on her hair, how beautiful golden it was, but most of the time the would compliment on the style she had it in. all of it was thanks to titania and she would give credit where it was due.
nodding in response to her housemaid's question, she was about to respond when she was suddenly out of the door, off to get the tea that she had mentioned earlier. this left rosalind inside of her room, alone, for a while. standing to her feet, she walked over to her mirror and looked into it. her gaze started at her face and worked their way down, stopping at her stomach before she placed both hands on it. titania's words rung in her head as she rubbed her stomach, the ache to have a baby still there. her friend's words were true, the divines were blessing her child by not allowing it be born in a time of war and terror. raising her gaze once more, she let a soft smile touch her lips, she would have to speak to balgruuf about it, hopefully it would give him hope as well.
hearing titania knock on the door, she jerked her head around and smiled, "there is no need for you to knock, dear friend." she spoke before she saw titania walk in with a tray full of tea and biscuits. she didn't even realize just how hungry she was until she felt a soft pang in her stomach, "yes, it was." she replied before she took the cup that was handed to her and took a sip. what the brunette said was right, "this is delicious." she spoke before taking another sip. putting the cup down, she grabbed a biscuit and took a bite from it, the warm pastry satisfying her craving for anything edible.
a moan of contentment passed her lips before she looked up at her housemaid, "do you wish to go for a walk after? i think i may need a bit of fresh air." notes: rosie is feeling better

AND AT ONCE I KNEW I WAS NOT MAGNIFICENT a smile crept across titania's face as rosalind told her not to knock. "my apologies. i do it out of habit." titania explained, before settling into one of the chairs herself, taking her cup with her as she sat. "isn't it? they're all the way from falkreath. the leaves are from this special plant they've begun growing down there. we received one of their first batches." titania wasn't truly so interested in tea, but it was something to keep rosalind distracted. and if titania's prattling got annoying, no doubt rosaling would ask her politely to be quiet. content to be quiet for the time being, titania sipped her own tea, picking up a biscuit for herself, nibbling on it between sips. it wasn't much in the way of food, but it would tide titania over until the next meal time.
"a walk would be lovely," titania responded to her lady's suggestion. fresh air would no doubt do rosalind some good, and titania always liked to wander about the city. since living in whiterun, titania had grown fond of the city. it was so different to winterhold; whiterun was bustling, full of life and people, and it had taken some getting used to. but now, she delighted in walking the streets, talking to the stall owners and locals she had befriended and catching up. she kept her lips sealed about the going ons in dragonsreach, but titania loved chatting with people about their lives. they just seemed so interesting. if titania didn't have it so well in dragonsreach, titania would heavily consider moving down into the town.
"i've been meaning to go to arcadia cauldron's and get some more ingredients. if you don't mind, of course." titania suggested. her stocks had been running low for a while now and she hadn't had much of a chance to go down into the town to buy more supplies. in times like these, having a few potions handy would no doubt be wise. since the beginning of the war, titania had begun to craft potions for a bit of gold on the side, and also healing any soldiers who were injured. titania didn't ask for much in the way of recompense. she felt it was her duty to do what she could to help whiterun's people, and because it only cost her slight fatigue when she used magic, there was no need for her to be paid. but she couldn't do anything without crafting potions.
it didn't take long for titania to finish her tea and biscuit, and when she had, she waited for her lady to put down her cup so she could remove the tray. once she had, titania got to her feet, picking up the tray as she did so. "i'll just return this to the kitchens, and then we can go for that walk. shall i meet you downstairs?" titania asked of rosalind, knowing it would probably be easier to meet her in the hall. her lady would probably want to inform her husband that they were leaving for a short time.

[/div][/div][atrb=style, width: 265px;][atrb=valign,top] the tea had definitely helped calm the poor countess' nerves by quite a bit. it was delicious and warm, filling her belly with the same as she sipped at it and conversed with her dear friend. already, rosalind was starting to feel much better than before, the tea was just helping her all that much more, "well, aren't we lucky!" the blond haired noblewoman exclaimed before she smiled brightly and took another sip of her comforting tea, "i'll be sure to have the chef request these more often." she added before nodding softly and looking down at the leaves that her at the bottom of the cup. just as she did so, the negative thoughts started rushing back into her head and she immediately lifted her gaze to her friend. a smile formed on her lips before the countess suggested that herself and her friend take a walk through the city.
titania agreeing with her suggestion was welcomed and rosie felt herself relax a bit. a walk was just what she needed, "yes, and i've been needing some fresh air." she added and, nodding before she got to her feet and put the cup of tea down, "that would be fine. i will be needed to find my husband and tell him where i am going, anyways." she paused and smirked, "you know how protective he can get. who knows, maybe we'll be accompanied by an army." she explained and giggled before walking towards the door and opening it, holding it open for her housemaid as she carried the tray of biscuits and tea out from her room, "yes, downstairs would be best - at the entrance." she added before closing the door behind her and walking down the steps in search of the Jarl.
the conversation between them was brief and after being convinced to take three guards with her, rosalind was more than prepared to head out into the fresh air. as always, he told her to be careful and that he loved her and her response was a simple, i will and i love you.
waiting a the front entrance, she could see that titania had been waiting for her, something that was quite normal. many people saw that the house maiden should never keep the lady waiting, but rosie never saw titania as just simply her house maiden - she was her dearest and most trusted friend, "we have a small army coming with us." she explained before one of the guards opened the door for both the countess and her handmaiden. giving a small bow of thanks, rosie stepped outside into the cool. crisp air of the whiterun. it was bright and inviting, weather that rosie always took preference to. AND AT ONCE I KNEW I WAS NOT MAGNIFICENT titania nodded, a small smile crossing her face at correctly assuming rosalind would wish to inform her husband they would be leaving for a walk around the city. the love between her friends was sweet, and although titania had at first found herself a little jealous when love began to bloom between them, it was now incredibly hard for her to keep a straight face when rose and her husband were in the same room. titania caught every lingering gazes between them, and it was hard to believe that their love was the result of an arranged marriage. titania had even been worried her friend might have been betrothed to a bad man, but as soon as she'd met balgruuf, she'd known it not be true. balgruuf and rosalind were beautiful people in every way, and their love reflected that.
"i will see you soon, then." titania stated, leaving rosalind to her goodbyes, and taking the tray back down to the kitchen. it wasn't a long walk, the anticipation of getting out of dragonsreach making the time pass much more quickly, and before titania knew it she was in the kitchens. she congratulated the chef for the absolutely exquisite biscuits, and requested that rosalind should have the special tea given to her each morning. the lady had liked it so much, titania knew she wouldn't mind drinking it regularly. from what titania heard, it was supposed to be very good for you.
after that, a quick dart back to her quarters meant titania could grab a cloak and basket to put her ingredients in. she also grabbed her coin purse, tying it to her belt and then hiding it under her cloak. she knew most of the inhabitants of whiterun by their face, but there were always travelers in town, and titania knew better than to flash her coin around. she didn't even have that much to begin with, but it was better to be safe than to lead some poor man to temptation. a cut purse was the last thing titania needed.
and then it was back down to the front door. rosalind wasn't there yet, which was a good thing. titania never wanted to keep her waiting. not only was it her obligation as a handmaiden, but it just seemed.. rude. it didn't take long for rosalind to appear, a small number of guards following behind her. titania gave them all a bright smile, letting out a short laugh as rosalind mention their 'small army'. "I can see that." titania said, bowing her head as thanks when one guard opened the door for the two women to step through.
the cool air was refreshing on titania's face, and she was pleased to see it was a rather nice day. one never knew what kind of weather you'd get at this time of year. before making her way down the steps, titania linked her arm through rosalind's, walking forward with her. "maybe you should have brought a cloak, rosalind." titania tittered, though rosie's dress probably offered more protection from the cold. even through her cloak and her own dress, titania could feel the thickness of the fabric. "it's a bit cold.." giving rosalind a sideways glance, titania couldn't help but feel a bit concerned. the lady might catch a chill, which was never good. but, titania supposed, if rosalind did feel cold, she could always borrow titania's cloak. it would be too small, considering rosalind was much taller than her, but it would be better than nothing.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,5,true][atrb=style, background-color: #bd568e; width: 450px; padding: 5px, bTable][cs=3] IN THE MOURNING I'LL RISE | [atrb=style, width: 145px;][atrb=valign,top]TITANIA/ INDIE FOUR ONE TWO THIS IS SO BAD, I'M SORRY! |
[/div][/div][atrb=style, width: 265px;][atrb=valign,top] there had been more than one thing that rosie had fallen in love with, when she had moved to whiterun. there had been balgruuf and the people, but there had also been the weather. it had been such an amazing change, to feel sunlight for more than just one day at a time. rarely did they ever have to worry about incoming blizzards or snow that came to her hips. winterhold would always be her home, but she couldn't deny that she much preferred the weather of the place she now ruled over, alongside her husband. of course, the air in whiterun was still brisk and cool, but nothing like the harsh winds of winterhold that the sea brought in.
once the two had met one another at the bottom of the staircase and in front of the doorway, rosalind could almost explode with excitement. it had been a long while since balgruuf had allowed her to go outside, if only because of the nearing war - rosalind knew all to well that it wouldn't be long before the war was knocking at whiterun's door. however, she was still thankful she was able to go out in this day, even if they were accompanied by guards. they knew when to keep their ears to themselves and rosalind could chatter away without feeling as though hse was being evesdropped on.
feeling her housemaid link arms with her, the countess of whiterun smiled to herself and followed her outside. the air was a bit chilly, but the thickness was just enough to keep her from being too cold. so, when titania mentioned her beinging a cloak, rosie shrugged her shoulders, "the fabric of this dress seems thick enough." she explained before looking ahead. whiterun was full of life, bustling with people as the young nord woman listened to the shouting and joyful laughter. however, even from this high up, she could see the tension between the battle-borns and the grey-manes. rosalind, herself, had no idea as to which side she was on; the empire seemed ot treat the people of skyrim well, escluding the banishing of warshiping talos. that never sat well with her, being a nord herself,
"titania..." she started before turning to her head to the woman beside her, "who would you fight for?" she paused, before shrugging, "for the empire or for the stormcloaks?" she knew what she was asking was a tough questionm but rosie knew it needed to be asked by everyone. rosalind's question did throw titania offguard, but she supposed it must have been something that prayed on the lady's mind. with whiterun as a city remaining neutral, it was only a matter of time before they were dragged into the war with everyone else. already, tensions between the battle-borns and the gray-manes were already threatening to boil over. it was sad to see it happening on dragonsreach's doorstep, but there was nothing to be done about it.
"you know i'm not a fighter, rose." titania answered slowly. it was true. she was too weak to swing a sword, and although she'd been trained to use magic at the college of winterhold, titania knew she could never intentionally hurt someone with it, even if they ran at her swinging a sword. by nature, she was a healer, and if she was dragged into the war in any way, titania would find herself on the battlefield, healing those she could.
she remained quiet for a few more moments, trying to think of who she'd really support. it took a while, but in the end she came up with nothing. the breton really couldn't say she'd support one cause over the other. it wasn't that they were worth it, but war was just.. wrong. even in whiterun, the effects were being felt as people came in daily to escape skirmishes, full of tales about the war. it all made titania very sad. especially because there was nothing she could do. "i wouldn't fight for either." titania finally responded, turning her blue eyes on rosalind, her voice serious. "i don't like the war. it's awful what it's doing to people. if i were to be involved in any way, i'd be patching up men, or easing the passing of others." that made her even sadder, and she cringed inwardly. "that's probably not the response you were after, but i can't honestly say i agree with either side." titania knew rosalind's loyalties lay with her strongly neutral husband, and so knew asking the same question of her was unnecessary. she smiled softly at her friend then, tightening her arm a little to squeeze rosalind's comfortingly. "but let's not speak of it. it's too fair a day to cloud it over with such things." |
