Aranyi Elk-Bane .
FULL NAME . Aranyi Elk-Bane NICK NAMES . Aran AGE & BIRTHDAY . 27 & 13th Rain’s Hand SPECIES . Bosmer OCCUPATION . Hunter STORMCLOAK, IMPERIAL OR NEUTRAL? Stormcloak GUILDS . n/a WITCH, VAMPIRE OR WEREWOLF? n/a SEXUAL ORIENTATION . Homosexual (but he doesn’t entirely know it yet) CANON . No | [atrb=border,0,true] primary skills + archery Like most Bosmer, Aranyi is a terror with a bow – he was practically born holding one, and learned to shoot before he was five. He fletches his own arrows, carved from bone, and has incredible range born from a life of practice and hunting. He supplements his archery with alchemy, dipping his arrows in paralytic or health-draining poisons. (He can be quite irritating to travel with, as he often wanders away to pick flowers for said concoctions.) + alteration A more recent addition to Aranyi’s skillset, he finds his magical abilities perhaps the most entertaining. It started with protective oakflesh spells and candlelight for night traveling, but as he nagged local mages for more teachings, his ability grew. He uses detect life spells often, to guide him to tricky prey; ash shells to immobilize foes; telekinesis to pull down fruits from trees too high to climb. + sneak Not one to let down stereotypes, Aranyi is quite the stealthy little elf – primarily for hunting, as are most of his more developed skills, but his ability to remain out of sight has proven useful in many other scenarios. Aranyi has few qualms about stealing, and makes for a good pickpocket – though he typically only takes food and jewelry. He can’t pick a lock to save his life, however, and is not a “thief” as most people would define them. + smithing/enchanting Aranyi is quite good at crafting armors and clothes from gathered animal pelts – fur, hide, studded armors, though he’s willing to attempt the tougher, metal-based designs. He enchants and sells these to passing travelers, granting increased stamina or damage from bows. He takes requests as well, though is unlearned when it comes to adding elemental damage to weapons – he would try if asked nicely, however, as a smile and promise of friendship is the quick and easy key to Aranyi’s heart. weapons + nordic bow of frost, “rime” Another gift from his old “family”, both a light, efficient weapon and a reminder of his childhood. It is enchanted with minimal frost damage – Aranyi likes it for the slowing effect it has on smaller targets, but for the most part, it remains uncharged until Aranyi stumbles across (see: steals) a soul gem. apparel + fur armor Perhaps not the most protective of armors, but the only thing Aranyi will own – he made it himself, from the pelts of snow-bears and sabre-cats, decorated with bones and antlers of prize stags. It is well-crafted and enchanted to make it stronger and muffle his movements; certainly no set to turn your nose up at. Combined with stoneflesh, Aranyi has found himself well protected enough – he does not make a point of taking on mobs of enemies, and most of his kills are from a distance anyway. + kyne’s token Granting an increase to archery and a decrease to damage taken from animals, Aranyi is rarely seen without the old token hanging around his neck. It was passed on to him from an old nord hunter that he spent the majority of his childhood with, as a reward for taking down the massive snow-bear that was disrupting the local deer population. He was thirteen at the time, and felled the beast with a well-placed shot between the eyes: The head is still mounted above the nord’s hearth. appearance Aranyi is a small elf. He stands somewhere around 5’4”, all lithe muscle and stealth – his hair, long and blond, often tied up in braids. He bears as many scars as might be expected from a wanderer of skyrim; several prominently decorate his chest from a nearly lethal sabre-cat attack, and yet more across his left cheek from an unruly goat. He often paints his face and bared skin with pigments gathered from the wild – green and red paints either for camouflage or decoration, as he sees fit. He rarely wears anything but his “armor”, for it is light and comfortable enough for day-to-day proceedings. (It helps that he does not often venture into larger cities, and instead spends most of his time in the wilderness.) If pressed, he will wear a simple, tattered tunic (that he may or may not have looted off a deceased miner) and some boots, but he is loath to go entirely unprotected. personality Aranyi is a kind soul, first and foremost. He helps others in need, no matter which faction they are with – although he much favors the Stormcloaks, and often considers himself among their ranks. In particular, he shares his food with anyone he passes, and carries quite a bit in reserve, salted and dried. He does not much like killing other people, unless necessary, and whenever he is able, he burns the bodies gives them proper rites. (He does not, however, seem to have many qualms about pickpocketing others – but, in all fairness, he rarely takes much, and what he steals is rarely of significant value. He would never bankrupt a store; he steals mostly for personal needs.) Yes, he’s a kind-hearted creature… save when it comes to slaughterfish. He lost his right pinky toe to one while swimming, and he is ever afraid that another school will sneak up on him – he scouts waterways before entering them, and makes a hobby of sniping the fish from the shore. Slaughterfish aside, he is an efficient and merciful hunter, killing his prey quickly and using as much of the animal as he can. He is naïve and gullible, easily duped by sly words – and part of the reason he dislikes large cities. Won over too easily by forlorn expressions and tales of misfortune, he easily finds himself broke or tricked into helping with some scheme. Once someone proves their unworthiness (which is difficult to do, as Aran must catch them directly in the act of stealing from him or pulling the wool over his eyes), he will, however, remember that person for the rest of his life. He hasn’t seemed to learn his lesson, and instead gives everyone the benefit of the doubt upon first meeting them – surely those past thieves and traitors were flukes. When angry or slighted, he hides rather than attack, preferring to remove himself from the situation and be alone to deal with his feelings. When attacked directly, however, he is quite vicious in battle -- surprising to most who know him as a happy, well-meaning hunter. history + Born to a pair of bosmer bandits near Falkreath, Aranyi never knew his parents – his mother died of sickness, and his father was killed by guards before he turned two. Mercy stayed the same guard’s hand, and he was instead brought back to falkreath, where he was adopted by a recent widower. + Torbjorn, his adoptive father, made no bones about Aranyi’s past and heritage, but loved him as a son all the same. Aranyi was always well-aware that he was both bosmer and kin of bandits, and though he sought information about his race, he happily followed Torbjorn on hunts and adapted his worship of Kyne and Talos. + They did not live in Falkreath long – Torbjorn was a restless man, preferring to travel and set up his own camp. On their travels across Skyrim, they met up with other hunters and travelers, some of them bosmer like Aran. They taught him about his birth culture, and how to craft poisons and make bone-arrows… and Aranyi was very happy with his “family”. + Torbjorn died of rockjoint when Aran was 16 – understandably upset, he also found himself entirely alone: He had stayed behind to care for his father while the group they were traveling with went ahead. + So for the past eleven years, Aranyi has traveled Skyrim more or less alone – he occasionally joined up with other hunters, but forged few lasting friendships. (He temporarily traveled with an alteration mage to improve his own skills, but did not want to return with him to the college of winterhold.) |
