asgeir the young .
FULL NAME . Asgeir the Young NICK NAMES . Geir AGE & BIRTHDAY . 20; 27th of Sun's Dawn SPECIES . Nord OCCUPATION . Jarl of Dawnstar STORMCLOAK, IMPERIAL OR NEUTRAL? Open-minded (too open-minded for most), but Stormcloak by the previous allegiance of Dawnstar GUILDS. None. WITCH, VAMPIRE OR WEREWOLF? N/A SEXUAL ORIENTATION . Heterosexual CANON (IF APPLICABLE) . Nope! | [atrb=border,0,true] Key Skills +Speech: Though not an experienced leader or politician or anything of the sort, Asgeir has a knack for quickly thinking up the right thing to say at the right time and for typically being honest about what it is he does say. That penchant for honesty is what makes people want to listen most times, though some still disregard him due to his age and inexperience, and that's not something that Asgeir can really affect. +Archery: Though not extensively martially skilled, Asgeir has received quite a bit of training with the bow over his life and can hit a target as well as anyone in Dawnstar. He keeps in constant practice with the bow, as well, as he finds it to be rather enjoyable and relaxing. +Block: Again, while Asgeir hasn't gone toe-to-toe with many opponents in his life and has only had some basic training to fight, he's learned, more than anything else involving combat, how to defend himself skillfully. He typically prefers a shield in order to keep himself protected in combat. -------------------------- Weapons, Armor, and Belongings +Blade of the Pale: A one-handed sword enchanted with fire magic, the Blade of the Pale has remained within the hierarchy of Dawnstar for at least a hundred years. After Skald the Elder was removed from power, Asgeir took up the sword and keeps it on his person most hours of the day. +Jarl's Circlet: A simple circlet that denotes Asgeir as the jarl of Dawnstar. -------------------------- Personality Young and perhaps a bit too idealistic, there is clearly some truth that Asgeir's inexperience costs him in some ways. He has a few too many ideas that go beyond his own means as a jarl in a time of war and undoubtedly opinions that scrape too close to what some Nords would consider "Imperial" in nature or not particularly traditional. He holds rather tightly to his ideas of how he should operate as a jarl, though, and thus does gain some respect from those in Dawnstar (who think he's at least not an old coot like Skald). Asgeir thinks all factors need to be considered, but ultimately, the decision should reside with him and his best judgement. Unfortunately, those methods, while great on paper, don't always work out. In reality, Asgeir does have some reservations about his ability to lead the Pale capably. He second-guesses himself sometimes and, while he tries to make it appear as if he's making his own decisions, in the back of his mind he can be influenced by the waxing and waning of any criticism that surrounds him. For this reason, Asgeir sometimes tries too hard to accommodate certain expectations and ends up going overboard. His rather even-keel personality makes it sometime seem as if he's far too plodding in his decision making. Nonetheless, that Asgeir does try to be thoughtful, again, makes him a step up from Skald in the eyes of most. He's always eager to take a step up in his ability to lead. Asgeir can certainly be considered a good, steadfast man. It's not any particular ambition that convinced him to assist the people of Dawnstar in their efforts to depose Skald, and he sees himself more as a public servant than most anything else. He's honest almost to a fault and tends to only bother himself with his problems, not wanting to burden anyone else with them. It does put quite a bit of pressure on him, yes, but it's very rare that anything can trigger much of a temper. Like any young man barely out of his teens, he has his lapses of time when he wants to enjoy himself in the company of others and times when he wants to be left alone to think. He is growing into the large shoes he's filling, but the process is obviously going to be slow in a time of war. -------------------------- History Born in the Pale fifteen years into the "reign" of his relative, Skald the Elder, as jarl of the area, Asgeir would have little reason to believe he would be compelled to replace Skald twenty years later during a war in Skyrim. His father, a carriage driver, was killed in a strange incident that was never fully explained in any way. Asgeir was eight years old at the time, and as the younger of the two sons in the family, didn't yet have to step up as the man of the household. He spent, due to his mother's fears that he would experience the same fate as his father, most of his time on their small farm, working with her, while his older brother did most of the work away from the home. His brother nonetheless taught him to use a bow, saying he might need the knowledge someday. Asgeir wouldn't even be fully aware that Skald was a part of the family until his early teens, as his own family didn't approve of Skald's warmongering and Skald didn't care for any of them in general. Asgeir would first meet him in asking for the funds, to be payed back, to expand their farm. Obviously, as always with Skald, the meeting did not go as planned, and Asgeir returned home sour about the encounter. Unable to believe that family could treat family in such a way, since his own smaller unit of family got along very well, Asgeir mentally joined those in the Pale who rattled on in their whispering about how Skald had become too old and too crabby to rule properly. He asked his mother about the station of jarl often, as well. It was only a few years later that the war advanced to its start, and Asgeir's brother left to join the Stormcloaks and make Asgeir the head of the family. The complaints about Skald truly reached a high point as he placed Dawnstar on the side of the Stormcloaks and went on with his rather one-minded decision-making. Though the people wanted to replace him with Brina Merilis, many knew that it would be difficult to move the position to her, as she was not a part of the traditional family of the jarl in Dawnstar, and thought her dedication to the Imperials was not far better than Skald's dedication to the Stormcloaks. These two issues were what brought Asgeir to their attention, very soon after his brother was reported as dead in combat - the result of a Stormcloak mistake and an Imperial kill. He was already sick of the war by this time, with political views already clearly forming and his ire for Skald remaining. Asgeir, with some reluctance, agreed to step forward as a replacement for Skald. With the support of a decent portion of the Pale, Asgeir approached Skald about his desires to take his place. Laughing him off, Skald disregarded him totally until Asgeir offered the jarl something he could not rightfully refuse - a duel for the right to the family position as jarl. Asgeir convinced him to wait a month for the duel to take place and took the time to learn from others in the Pale, those who primarily supported him, how to properly fight. The day for the duel came, and while it was not a resounding victory that Asgeir secured, he proved skillful at using Skald's aggression and age against him and eventually won. Skald resisted, but Asgeir personally took the circlet of Dawnstar's jarl from him and the messengers were sent out with word of the change. Asgeir has been in the middle of debates about Dawnstar ever since, and has received the title 'the Young' both from those who are i support of him and those who would use it in a derogatory way. Thus far, Asgeir has proven unwilling to strongly declare full support for either side in the war. The most recent pressure from the people of the Pale and outside sources has been their interest in securing a strong wife for him, as many believe he needs to strengthen his position. He, and a great deal of people in Dawnstar, have also been plagued by strange nightmares. |
