SKILLS .
Argonians make excellent thieves, pirates, and assassins and Rin is no exception to the rule. He is highly skilled in both pickpocketing and lockpicking, though he refrains from doing so unless the situation desperately needs it. He would never be so foolish as to steal from another crew member sans on the captains orders. If they’re docked in a town and it seems like fun he’ll pick pocket the wealthiest looking civilians. He is not often caught, but when he is, his best strategy is to hit the nearest body of water and just wait at the bottom till the guards get bored. He has yet to encounter a city in Skyrim that employed Argonians as guards making it almost impossible for them to come after him.
He spends much of his time sneaking. Being on a pirate ship constantly surrounded by crew it is nice to occasionally blend in to the background and go unnoticed. This skill is also useful when ambushing other ships or stealing cargo from the docks. His weapons of choice are one handed. He learned to fight from pirates, so much of his fighting is not standard practice and implements a few cheap moves. Argonian skin is naturally tougher than the races of men, but he still supplements his defense with light armor. He moves as easily in it as he would everything else. Heavy armor really has no place on a pirate ship, or any ship, in his opinion.
Rin would bet that there is no one in all of Tamriel who can sail a ship quite like he can. He has frequently been taken from pirate ship after pirate ship for his skill. He is an expert at navigation and cartography. He knows everything that there is to know about sailing. All of the life that he remembers has been on a ship, there are very few jobs that the crew performs he does not know how to do at least on the basic level. His natural argonian resistances to disease and poison are incredibly advantageous on a ship, as is his ability to breath under water. For obvious reasons, he is certain that the only job he was ever meant to grow into was that of a pirate and he has never really spent any time doing anything but.
WEAPONS & ARMOR .
Rin-Waur usually wears civilian clothes on the ship. He does not have anything to fear from his crew members and should the ship be attacked, the person sailing the boat is always taken hostage. He’s been through enough ambushes to know the drill. When he is out in the rest of the world, he will wear leather armor. The Land-Dwellers do not always understand that you don’t attack a ship’s master. He spent too long learning his craft to just get knifed in the city. And he doubts that his captain would forgive him for being so foolish. Weapon wise, Rin-Waur keeps a glass dagger on hand at all times. It is his only personal weapon, but the ships he has been on have always had fully stocked arsenals with anything else he might need should the situation arise.
STORY .
Rin-Waur was the only offspring of his Argonian parents who lived in the Assemblage of Windhelm. He would have had a normal childhood he supposed, had it not been for his own curiosity. In one of his very early years, he was playing amongst the ships when he climbed aboard one of the ships, and snuck below the deck, playing amongst the cargo. It was not until the ship was far out to sea that they found the little stow away. After some discussion on what to do with the boy, the Captain decided to keep him on as a cabin boy. Rin-Waur ran errands for the captain, and take care of any other jobs the crew gave him. He did not particularly enjoy it, but he was never given the option to return home. He spent the majority of his childhood and teenage years on the boat.
By the time he was fourteen, he had been taken in by the Ship’s Master as an apprentice. He quickly learned the navigation skills required of him, and was mastering the helm. Just after his Seventeenth summer, their ship was raided by another band of Pirates. Rin-Waur's loyalty was demanded of the new captain. Ship’s Masters were difficult, and talented ones more difficult. The current Ship’s Master was a much older man, who sucombed to disease not a month after Rin-Waur’s capture. He was then promoted to Ship’s Master himself. While he struggled a bit on his first ship, at seventeen he was the youngest Ship’s Master amongst the pirate crews. His term on this ship lasted less than six months before they were raided and Rin-Waur’s loyalty was changed again.
Between his eighteenth and twenty third years he changed ships fifteen times. He was so used to switching captains that he never made any real attachment to the captain. His loyalty was easily won through combat. He would never leave his ship in port though he was often propositioned, but if another captain boarded their ship and demanded Rin-Waur then he would comply. That’s just how being a pirate was. Until the ship he was navigating was attacked by the Lady Ardent. Like his previous ship changes, Rin-Waur became a part of the Ardent’s crew. But this ship was not like the others in that they did not get attacked as often, perhaps because they were a solid crew. Despite his better judgment he began to get attached to them. The crew decided that his Cyrodilic name of Runs-On-Frozen-WAter seemed like a more accurate fit than his Argonian name, though most of them still refer to him as Rin as it is much faster to say. He has been with the crew of the Lady Ardent for two years, and would probably describe himself as happy.
