[/div] tagged: violet/ indie words: 577[/div] it had been two days since he had attempted his job at mistveil keep and had utterly failed. there was no oher way to describe it other than complete and total failure. after he had left the girl's bedroom buy climbing out of the window and down the side of the keep, he mentally prepared himself for the tongue lashing he was going to be getting from either brynjolf or mercer. either one would be worse than the other in aleks' mind and, to be honest ,he was almost cowardice enough to just not go back right away and sleep. however, he did the right thing, the best thing, and headed back towards the cistern with his tail between his legs.
explaining to brynjolf just what had happened was no easy matter and seeing the disappointment and anger on his face only made it worse. aleks tried to explain what had happened, how his mind had worked and why he just left, but it was no use. everything he said seemed stupid or just a made up lie. brynjolf had told him that he was off the job and he was going to put someone else on it. that almost made aleks feel worse. he didn't want anyone stealing the poor girl's dowry, she needed the thing to find her suitor and get married. stealing that was just completely unethical. still, he bit his tongue and decided to cut his losses; he was just glad he didn't have to go back there and try again. aleks didn't know what he would do, if he needed to do that again.
to take his mind off of the whole scenario that had happened, as well as to redeem himself from his failure, brynjolf put him on a simple job inside riften. the job was simple enough and we done the next day with ease, which made aleksander feel a bit better. at least now it meant that it was just the girl who had made him feel the guilt he had felt before. the very thought of her made his stomach churn with guilt and, after sleeping on it for another night, her decided that he needed to speak with her about what had happened and explain himself. grabbing a piece of paper and a quill, he dunked it in ink and started to scribble away the quick message he wanted to send her.
the let her got back was exactly what he had expected, a rejection and an inquiry as to why she would even bother. after a second pair of letters, she finally accepted and aleks couldn't be more proud of himself. it was his chance to explain to her why he was doing what he was and why he acted so strangely. both essentially went hand in hand and both of them involved his devotion to taking care of his younger sister.
at five o'clock, he walked out of his home in riften, after explaining to his sister that he was meeting up with some friends at the bee and the barb, and headed just there. though it wasn't to meet his friends, but the girl who he had tried to rob from a couple days prior. walking into the inn, he looked around and took a seat in one of the corners and waited. he didn't know whether or not she was actually going to show up, but he figured it was worth a shot. notes: terrible starting post

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#a3a3b9; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px; color: #cccccc;]SOMEWHERE PERFECTION LIES it had been two days since violet was certain her life was going to end at the hands of some lowlife thief. but, by some miracle, the thief had leapt out the window before he had done anything more than scare her a little. was violet a little grateful? certainly. but more than anything else she was angry. not that she had been spared, but that she had made such an easy target. when she'd called for her guards, the thief was long gone, and all it made violet wish was that she had been able to defend herself properly. more than anything, she wanted a sword in her hand, or at least a bow. but of course, her mother refused.
and so, violet had been in a dark mood ever since. she'd taken to waking up early to train in the yard, hitting the dummy as much as she could. it was satisfying, but when she returned to her room, and changed her loose breeches for the fine dress she had to present herself in daily. the bodice felt restricting, and the skirt heavy, but violet did as she was honor bound to do. if she refused, her mother would no doubt object. very dramatically. and creating mayhem in the jarl's residence was no way to thank him for his hospitality. still, violet just wished she could... run. whether it was back home to solitude, or to some other far off place, violet wanted out. but that was impossible.
when the letter from the thief arrived, all it served to do was throw violet into more of a bad mood. who on earth did he think he was, asking her to meet him? after the threats, and holding a blade to her throat.. it didn't even deserve a reply, but violet had done so anyway. only for him to reply once more. and because she doubted very much that the thief would leave her alone after denying him once more, violet agreed to meet him. she supposed the inn was a relatively safe place for someone like her, and although she told the thief she wouldn't be alone, violet intended on being so. there was no way her mother would let her into the inn alone, as violet wished, so the girl would have to sneak out. there was no other way.
that didn't mean she was happy about it. she dressed in a roughspun dress made of wool, far more common than the normal clothes she wore. her boots were well worn enough as it was, and she borrowed her handmaiden's patched cloak for the night. it wasn't so much for the roughness as it was to cover her face, and as violet's own cloak was in her mother's room and lined with fine fur, it would have to do. her hair was loose, tumbling in waves over her shoulders. with any luck, violet hoped she looked like any other nord girl in the city. she gave herself one glance over in her mirror, and after deciding she certainly looked common enough, violet clambered out of the very same window the thief had made his exit from two nights before.
making her way to the inn was easy enough. violet knew from her treks through the city that it lay at the center of riften. the streets were quiet, everyone having headed home to sleep the night away, but as she approached the inn, violet could hear voices and singing becoming increasingly louder. with her hood covering her head, violet pushed open the door, the noise of the inn's patrons almost tripling inside once she entered. it only occurred to violet as she watched a very inebriated man stumble directly in front of her that this was her first time in an inn.
her eyes scanned the room quickly for any sign of the thief, almost unwilling to take a step further into the chaos before her. but with no sign of the thief, and assuming she was probably late, violet lifted her skirts and gingerly stepped over the man on the floor and looked around properly. for a moment, violet thought this might be a trap, that the thief had associates just waiting to pop out and grab her. but then she spotted him, sitting in the corner, and looking almost.. normal. so unlike the threatening man she'd met previously. curious, she walked towards him, taking the seat opposite him.
when she spoke, her voice was hushed, not wanting to draw attention to herself. "you better make this quick." violet stated, not even bothering to remove her hood. no doubt the thief would figure out who she was, even if her face was partially shielded from view. "i need to be back at the keep before long."

[/div] tagged: violet/ indie words: 747[/div] now that aleks was in at the inn, waiting for the girl to show up, he suddenly felt self conscious about how he looked and how people saw him. he was in no way wearing the same thing that he had been when he had first...made her acquaintance, so he hoped that she would recognize him. being in only a regular person's attire, he would fit in just fine with the crowd but also make it harder for her to spot him. as he sat there, waiting for her, he felt as though she wasn't going to show up. so, getting to his feet, he walked up to the bar and ordered a bottle of mead. after having it slid at him, he grabbed it and payed the barkeep before walking back to his table and sitting down. he had honestly kind of hoped that she wouldn't show up, just because he knew that the guilt would become tenfold if he did. as much as he wanted to reconcile with the girl, it was going to be difficult for him to even look her in the eye.
looking down at his bottle of mead, he sighed to himself, thinking himself a fool for even trying to meet her. it would be easy for her to bring a band of guards into the inn and arrest him under the charges of thievery. aleks wasn't exactly the type of person who wanted to go to jail, but he was still foolish enough to invite her. he had been smart in the way of her feeling comfortable, choosing a busy and public place for her to come in and not feel as though he was going to try anything else. honestly, aleks didn't even know what he would have said to the girl, if she had shown up. how was he supposed to justify what he had done to her? how he had scared her and threatened to kill her whole family. there was no justification for that, but maybe if he told her as to why he did it, she would understand him a little better. he would also have to explain to her that she was the first job, in a long time, that he felt guilty about. that had to count for something, right?
the doors had been opening and closing all night, so he didn't pay attention when they had opened again. merely sipping at his mead as he gave the girl another five minutes to show up before he left with the guilt still in his stomach. he would surely send her a letter, thanking her for taking the time to even think about showing up and how he understood why she didn't, after all. however, a he thought of what he was going to write, she saw someone sit across from him. to his surprise, it was the very girl he had been wanting to see and speak to about everything that had happened. her words were straight and to the point, obviously she wasn't comfortable being her and aleks simply nodded at her, "are you hungry?" he asked, simply before leaning forward on the table and shaking his head, "sorry, you probably already ate. uhm..." he cleared his throat. it was unlike him to get nervous, "i'd just like to apologize for what i did and i know that it seems stupid of me to be doing this. you know, threatening to kill your family and then having you meet me in an inn to apologize for it. but you have to understand that...what i do for a living is the only thing i know." he explained and shrugged.
"i only have my sister left and i need to take care of her, my job brings in good coin so i just do whatever i'm told to." he added, trying to paint a picture for her, "when i was first given your job, wasn't all for it. i thought that taking a woman's dowry was unethical but then...i thought about my sister and i took it. i didn't feel guilty about it until..." he looked up at the girl and was once again blown away by the beauty in her face, "until i looked at you and realized what i was doing to you." he paused for a moment before looking back down at his mead, "so, i'm sorry. i'm sorry for everything and i promise after this you won't have to see my face again." notes: hee hee excited

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#a3a3b9; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px; color: #cccccc;]SOMEWHERE PERFECTION LIES She was foolish to have come. It was just a regular old inn, and some thief who wanted to apologize. What did it matter if he’d had a change of heart? Would an apology make Violet forget how frightened she had been? Not likely. And that truth only made her question her actions more. She had willingly come to meet a dangerous stranger in an inn where no one would have a clue where she was. Violet sighed inwardly. Perhaps she wasn’t as clever as she claimed to be. If this was a trap, it might just be because Violet deserved it.
Still, she was here now, and Violet knew it was better to soldier on through her doubts rather than get up and leave. If there was one thing her father had taught her, it was sticking to duty, and right now, she had an obligation to sit and listen to the thief explain himself. Leaving him would simply be rude, and although Violet hadn’t given him the warmest of welcomes, she was going to remain seated until he’d said his piece.
Violet shook her head pointedly at the thief asking if she was hungry or not. Honestly, she just wanted to get this done with and be on her way. Her eyes stared him down as he appeared to get flustered, clearing his throat. In a way, it was endearing, but then Violet remembered the touch of steel against the skin of her neck, and her face hardened one more. When he finally continued, Violet listened with little interest, but eventually, she tuned into what he was saying. She was grateful that he didn’t use her title. Whether or not he did it because he didn’t care for such things, or he didn’t want to draw attention to her presence, Violet didn’t know, but she was thankful all the same.
“So you’re telling me you blindly follow orders?” Violet questioned him, an eyebrow arching as she looked at him. Her voice wasn’t exactly kind, but neither was it understanding. She had no idea whether or not he was lying to her, but some part of her seemed to know he spoke the truth. Sitting in silence for a short time, Violet had no clue what she was meant to say. Was she supposed to forgive him, and be gracious? Or could she leave now, and leave him with his guilt? The latter would serve him right, but of all people, the reasoning she chose to stay came from her mother, of all people. She had to be kind, and at least act gracious. After all, the thief had next to nothing, whereas Violet had almost everything a person could ever desire. She certainly had to be mindful of that.
Unsure whether or not she was supposed to be impressed by his show of honor, Violet removed her hood, letting her blonde hair fall over her shoulders. “I don’t know if you want me to forgive you or not. But I do understand. Everyone has to earn a living.” She ran a hand through her hair, clearly distressed. It wasn’t often she faced such wrenching decisions. On one hand, the thief seemed genuinely apologetic, and on the other, he’d tried to steal the very thing that ensured her a decent future. “I do know, however, that I will never forgive you for the threats you made against my family.” Her tone was cold, but the gaze she had fixated him with was not. No doubt he could sense her confusion from a mile away.
“You probably already know this, but my name is Violet.” She spoke slowly, unsure whether or not trying to get to know him better was such a wise thing to do. But she was curious, and Violet’s curiosity was a tricky thing to squash. “I didn’t manage to catch your name while your blade was at my throat, unfortunately.” It was intended as a joke, but she didn’t quite manage to pass it off as one. Clearing her throat gently, Violet ran another hand through her hair, though this time it was more out of concern that her hood had left it more unruly than usual.

[/div] tagged: violet/ indie words: 943[/div] throughout his whole life, the bosmer had to work for what he wanted and try his hardest obtain what was rightfully his. all he ver did was survive in the world and that was how he justified teaming up with the thieves guild. everyone looked out for each other, everyone survived as a group, not indiviually. it was always a comfort to know that he had people looking out for him and that he would easily do the same for them, if the time ever arose. he had used to envy those who lived in luxury, who had everything they could ever want and more, but now that he was with the guild, he didn't envy them any longer. he was living in luxury and comfortably, what more could a man wish for? aleks was also able to take care of his younger sister, a person of whom he had always thought to be the most important person in his life. they had survive this world together for so long, just the two of them. aaralyn didn't know it, but she now had so many people to watch out for her. the guild was at his disposel whenever he needed it and it felt fantastic to know that. it was because he knew, if anything happened to his younger kin, he would never be able to forgive himself. he had promised his parents in sovenguard that he would keep her safe. being in the guild provided that safety for her.
however, as for the woman sitting across from himself, that meant bad news for her. being rich and priviledged made her a very easy target and, even though aleks gave the job away and it wasn't going to be him who stole her dowry, it was still eventually going to be stolen. the thought occured to tell her and warn the girl about the inevitable second attempt and he figured he would eventually, but he first wished to explain to her just what was going through his head while he had the knife posed at her throat.
after he had explained to her just why he did what he had to her, he could se the realization on her face. when she asked if he blindly followed orders, he nodded slowly before looking down at his hands. when she said it out loud, it seemed completely stupid, to not think about what he was doing and just go for whatever job was handed to him, "yes." he finally spoke before looking back up at her and biting on the inside of his cheek, "i never really thought baout it, but yeah. i do." he added, the realization hitting him hard in the gut, like a heavy iron boot. letting out a soft sigh, he ran a hand through his short brunette hair before reaching his neck and sratching it.
when she took off her hood, aleks found himself completely immobilized by her beauty once more. how did she have such an effect on him? he couldn't even explain what she made him feel. her next words shocked him enough for him to stop scratching his neck and just freezing completely. she understood? aleks had hoped that she would, but him actually expecting it was a completely different story. lowering his harm, he looked ar her and tried to wash the look of shock off his face. if he wasn't on a job, aleks had a terrible time keeping his emotions off his face. managing to learn such a skill with the thieves guild was mandatory, but it was difficult for him at the best of times. so, he allowed himself the freedom to do so outside of the walls of the ratways ,"well, i'm glad you understand, i can see how it would be difficult to do so." he explained and nodded at her, flashing her a very faint smile in her direction. however, it faded when she completed the next part of her statement. looking back down at his hands, he felt shame rush through his cheeks and hands as they became red hot, "i understand." he stated before lifting his head to look at her, "i'll have you know i don't...usually do that. only because usually my victims are too terrified that they just give me what i want." he paused and smirked, "or i just don't get caught. which happens far more often that the opposite." he shrugged before looking at her once more, "you're a brave woman and i didn't know what to do."
hearing her own name come frm her own tongue sounded so much sweeter than anything he could ever possibly say. startling himself at the thought, he pushed it to the back of his mind to rot, wither and die. he figured he may as well tell her his own name, even though it was risky to do so, "aleksander, but everyone just calls me alek or aleks." he explained and smiled softly at her, "it's a pleasure to meet you...properly." he added and let out a soft chuckle, "i, uhm..." he cleared his throat and took on a much more serious tone, "i just wanted to warn you...that even though i promised that you would never have to see me again, there will more than likely be another attempt on your dowry." he warned. he knew that he was going against his own guild. but this job really wasn't that big and he had hoped that they would just let it go, but they hadn't, so he felt as though he should tell the victim, if only because he felt that he needed to make it up to her.

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#a3a3b9; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px; color: #cccccc;]SOMEWHERE PERFECTION LIES she watched the thief's smile fade as she told him she would never be able to forgive him for the threats he made against her. as it should, some dark part of her thought, glad to see the smirk disappear from her face. violet hadn't even mentioned forgiving him for what he'd done, either, so she didn't know what he was smiling about. even so, some other part of her had been glad to see him smile. it made him look younger, less stressed, and violet would have done anything to see it again. but she didn't. she was too prideful, and she was siding with her other half on this one. how could he just smile, like it was perfectly okay for him to do so? if she'd been male, or less attractive, or lowborn, she would have become a victim, and that made her feel uncomfortable around him. what on earth had made him change his mind about her?
she barely listened when he started talking again. she just.. couldn't believe it. was he saying that if she hadn't of been there, he'd have a clear conscience about the entire thing? it was enough to make her feel sick. and very confused. a blush rose in her cheeks as he called her brave, and violet averted her eyes to stare across the other side of the inn. she didn't like how this man was making her feel. first confused, then angry, and now bashful. she just couldn't
"aleksander.." violet let the name roll off her tongue, her formal upbringing automatically going for his full name, rather than a nickname. "and you." she echoed his courtesies, though she was still undecided on that fact. she merely watched him chuckle, her lips curving upward in her own small smile. but her mouth settled into a straight, grim line at what the thief told her next. of course she hadn't truly expected the thief and his guild to just give up on the dowry, but violet had been hoping that maybe, just maybe, he'd have convinced them to back off. at least long enough for her and her party to move on. it would have been easier to defend their selves from thieves on the open road, violet assumed, rather than having them sneak into mistveil keep while they were all otherwise occupied.
"can i tell you something?" she asked offhandedly, finally bringing her eyes back to look at him. she probably shouldn't tell him something so secretive, but if it helped protect her people, then it had to be done. and if he did go tell his superiors or whomever, that worked to her advantage. "i don't have the dowry. your information was false." violet shrugged gently, her eyes still on his face to see how he'd react. "we left it in solitude for this very reason. my father's delivering it as soon as i'm wed." she leaned forward, folding her arms and resting them on the table. "he didn't want to put us in anymore danger than we already were." violet smirked at that. between being killed by wild animals, being attacked by bandits, or taken hostage, violet's father hadn't seen the point in giving anymore reason to make their entourage a target for unsavory types across the province. violet had thought he was just being over protective, but now, she was immensely grateful. perhaps it hadn't been such a bad idea after all..

[/div] tagged: violet/ indie words: 416[/div] now that he was actually talking to the girl in a civilized manner, he realized how foolish he was to follow through with the plan at all. this girl was the perfect victim but also seemed like someone who completely didn't deserve to be stolen from. most of the people he had gone after had it coming, deserved to have their wealth spread to those who could not obtain as such on their own. almost like an odd type of robinhood, who took a cut for himself after every job. she seemed to act much older than her actual age and it intrigued and fascinated aleks all at the same time. all he could think about was how badly he wanted this conversation to keep going, even though the only thing that they had actually spoken about was how stupid he was for blindly following orders. she had called him out on his bullshit after just meeting him, it was a first for him and refreshing.
the way she said his name, he almost wanted to make her say it again; the bosmer's ears ringing with her voice now within them. no one had ever said his name in such a voice and aleks was already craving more of it, "yes, violet." he confirmed before chuckling softly, enjoying her name rolling off his tongue. he leaned on the table with his elbows as she asked if he could tell her something, "of course." he replied before the young noblewoman started to speak about how the dowry wasn't anywhere near the rift and was in fact in the highest securtiy town in skyrim, 'your father is smart man." he replied before smirking softly, "Would you like me to pass that on to my superiors?" he questioned before he realized that was probably the reason as to why he told her, "i assure you they will more than likely give up, if they knew it's much harder than they think." he assured before he took a sip of his mead.
looking at her, he switched the subject over, "can i offer you a bottle of mead? possibly something to eat?" if she didn't want to eat, he would let her be on her way, even though he was feeling as though they were finally starting to connect, "what's your favourite dish, i can get it for you." he added before smiling softly at her. a smile was was non-threatning and genuine, something that told her that he could trust him. notes: woop woop! SOMEWHERE PERFECTION LIES violet nodded, agreeing with the thief's statement that her father was clever. he truly was, and speaking about him made her miss him so. but she kept her lips sealed until aleksander asked if she would like him to tell his superiors the dowry wasn't actually in riften. "that would be best, yes." it was hard putting her father's guards in danger when they were so far away, but with any luck, violet would get a message to them the next morning, forewarning them about a possible theft. her father would certainly be able to station more men if he had some time to prepare. violet nodded along with aleks' final statement. "i hope they do." violet didn't have much faith in it though. thieves were supposed to be persistent, were they not? just the other day, aleksander had seemed like he would do almost anything to get his hands on that gold. no doubt his associates would be just as stubborn.
"i've actually already eaten this evening." violet responded to the thief's offer, without even thinking it through. the truth was, though, she wanted to stay and without the excuse of eating food, there wasn't much reason for her to remain at the table. she was curious about this thief, for reasons she couldn't quite explain. regardless, violet jumped on the the next opportunity she could. "but i will have that mead, thank you." violet had never been a fan of the drink, but compared to ale and wine, she thought it a better alternative. and she wouldn't have to drink the whole thing. just enough to show she was grateful for the offer and aleksander's attempts to patch things up.
she waited at the table for him to get the drinks, knowing that she'd probably be terrified of the innkeeper to stammer out exactly what she wanted. while left alone, her eyes darted around the inn, glad to see no one had been paying any attention to them. she was just another patron, some resident of riften come to blow off some steam at the end of another rough day. violet wondered how things would be different if they knew exactly who she was...
lost in her thoughts, it didn't seem like such a long time until aleksander was taking the seat opposite her, mead in hand. she took it from him gratefully, trying not to screw her face up at the first sip. in solitude, violet had always been given wine, and watered down wine at that, so the taste of the mead was almost too much for her to handle. but she swallowed it, even managing an appreciative smile over the tankard once she had. "thank you. it's not often i get to drink mead." she told him, her smile widening slightly. if only he knew this was one of the very few times she'd actually been in a proper inn.

552[/div] the thieves guild had opened him up to a lot of opportunities and one of them was being exposed to a brothel. he could remember cynric, rune and a couple of the other men taking him there in hopes of showing him a good time, but the young bosmer just couldn't bring himself to do it. the woman in the brothel were beautiful, no doubt, but none of them appealed to aleks, none of them made him feel the yearning to be with them, inside of them. so, instead, he sat at the bar, drinking mead and trying not to get noticed by some of the women in the house. obviously, it was failed miserably and the young man was almost forced into being with a woman for the night. luckily for him, he feigned sickness and was able to get out of their before anyone suspected anything. he knew that the women chose to be there, but he didn't approve of it in the slightest. he was brought up being told to respect women, seeing as they would be the mother of his children - aleks believed in that.
so, when he had been so disrespectful to the woman in front of him, he felt as though he needed to try anything and everything he could to make it up to her. so far, it seemed as though it was going that way. of course she wasn't going to forgive him for what he had done, but at least he was able to show that he was truly sorry. luckily for him, she seemed to be accepting his said apology and that made him feel much better about the whole situation. so, after he had offered her some food as well as mead, he was glad she accepted one of the two, "alright, i'll be right back." he explained before he stood up and walked towards the bar - he was going to be needing a refill on his own mead, anyways.
asking keerava for another two bottles, she inquired as to who he was with - he was slightly thrown off by the question. he shrugged softly and shook his head, "no one important. just a contact." he explained before keerava looked at him with suspicion. aleks smirked at her as he paid her and took the bottles, "keep to yourself, you old gossip." he teased before the argonian rolled her eyes at him and turned to another patron.
returning to the table, he slid her the bottle that was now meant for her, "it's black-briar." he explained before he watched her take a sip. already he could tell that she was not used to it being that strong and he couldn't help but chuckle, "i guess i should have warned you about the potency." he explained before she explained that it was rare for her to drink mead, "you don't need to drink it, if you don't like it." he offered to her. obviously, being a noblewoman, she was more than likely trying to drink it out of courtesy, "i assume you drink wine more often than mead, am i right?" he asked before taking a sip out of his own bottle. once he had swallowed and put the bottle down, he smiled at her softly, "you're lucky to have such luxuries." notes: woop woop! SOMEWHERE PERFECTION LIES the fact that the mead was black-briar didn't mean a thing to violet, but there was something in the brew that made it taste a little nicer than it might have been otherwise. she was no connoisseur when it came to tavern drinks, but violet knew she'd be able to stomach the drink.
when aleksander stated he should have warned her about the potency of the drink, violet just shook her head. instead, she took another sip defiantly, managing to keep her face straight as it washed over her taste buds. The second taste wasn't nearly so bad, so when aleksander offered up the suggestion that Violet didn't need it drink it she shook her head again. "No, it's fine. Nords are meant to love mead, are they not?" The smile she gave him after that statement was a rather cheeky one, though it faded into a regular smile just as quickly when he mentioned she must have drank wine more often. "yeah, i do. watered down wine, usually." violet added, not particularly sure why she had thought to mention it. it seemed important, though, and when he mentioned she was lucky, violet just returned his smile. she knew she was lucky. far luckier than most. she had meals every day, a bed to sleep in, beautiful clothing, a family that loved her... everything people desired out of life. was she ungrateful for wanting something else in life? should she have just tried to be content with what she had? violet knew she should, but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. she didn't want to be a lady, simple as that.
and that was when she started to feel sorry for the young elf sitting across from her. he was barely older than her, yet he had to support his sister, and his self, and the only way he could do so was through thieving. violet didn't approve of it by any means, but she made an effort to try and understand. and she found that she could sympathize.
"how old is your sister?" violet asked, after taking another sip of mead. it wasn't really important at all, but violet felt like it was polite to ask after her. "does she know you.. steal?" perhaps that was a bit too far, but violet just shook her head. "never mind. you don't have to answer that if you do not wish to."

seeing the girl's cringes start to fade more and more after every sip, aleks smirked to himself and raised his glass, "well then, we should have to build your tolerance up then, shan't we? have your work your way up to becoming a true nord." he joked and chuckled before lifting the bottle to his lips and taking a few sips. putting it back down on the table, he shook his head, "watered down wine. that's just aweful." he scoffed, his tone obviously playful before he gestured towards her with a nod, "you better drink up to wash that awful taste out of your mouth." another teasing remark.
the question about his sister was slightly startling, but expected none the less, "she's seventeen. though i still see her as the young bairn i met right after my mother birthed her." he stated and shrugged, "got to play the protective father figure, right?" the question was rhetorical before she asked if she knew he stole. shaking his head, he looked own at his bottle, "no. and she never will, not if i have anything to say about it." his tone was serious before he lifted his head and shook it, "no, no. it's a fair question. i don't want her to know. her extent of knowledge of as to what i do is limited." he paused and leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table top, "she thinks i'm a simple huntsman."
lifting his bottle to his lips once more, he let the flavour be savoured before he put his bottle down, "so, how much family have you got then?" |

"i wouldn't say that." she answered to aleks' statement that watered down wine was awful. "it's not as bad as it sounds, i assure you." she was attempting to be serious, but violet couldn't help but let her smile show through her words. to avoid laughing again, she averted her eyes, settling on some other patrons a couple of tables away. when they looked her direction, however, violet's eyes returned to the mug in front of her, her smile fading. some of the patrons certainly weren't the most friendly of people.
her eyes darted back up to the elf's face when he spoke about his sister, violet's eyebrows furrowing when she heard how young she was. sure, it was only a year younger than violet herself, but still.. to lose one's parents so long, and to be depending on your still young brother to survive. violet could not even bring herself to imagine what that must have been like. she nodded, trying to understand when aleksander told her that his sister didn't even know. it must have been hard to keep something that was such a big part of his life a secret to his only living relative. vi wouldn't have said her admiration of him grew, but she truly began to sympathize with him. so much weight was on his shoulders, and he'd screwed up what violet understood to be a big job. she couldn't forgive him for what he'd done just yet, but while her eyes settled on him, they clouded over, her mind whirring with possibilities of how she could help them in some small way.
but she was brought out of her planning by his question about her family. the thought of them brought a rather sad smile to her face. "well, there's my mother and father. and my eldest brother, erik. and his wife and two children." violet's expression turned fond. her brother's second child was still only a babe when violet had left solitude. "and then there's my other brother, aron. and iain. neither of them are married yet either." violet didn't know why she added that in, but it felt important. perhaps she felt like she should point out she wasn't the only unmarried arroway and her ridiculous parade around the province was rather unfair of her parents. that realization brought a slight frown to violet's face. "and then there's me. you could say there's a few of us around." letting out a nervous laugh, violet looked up at him from under her hair. and it was then she made a decision.
"i still don't like the fact that you made threats against my family, but i imagine it would be the same if anyone threatened your sister." before he could answer, violet's hand was at her belt and the coin purse that hung there. she hadn't brought much with her for fear of being robbed, but it should be enough to support the thief and his sister for a week or so. "i have gold with me. it's no dowry, but i want you to have it." trying not to let the coins clink against one another in the small pouch, violet gingerly placed it in front of him. "don't be noble. take it. you need it. i don't." violet smiled at him reassuringly, willing him to tuck it away without a fuss. |

when she started to list off her family, aleks felt a twinge of envy in his gut. she probably had no idea just how lucky she was to have such a big family and to have them all alive and well. aleks would have loved to have his parents still with him, but he knew that he couldn't always have his way and that life just dealt him a bad hand. always, he had been the type of person to look on the brightside, and even now, with his parents gone and his life constantly at risk from his job he kept a smile on his face and a skip in his step, "wow, that's quite the family." he stated before smiling at her genuinely, "i hope you realize how lucky you are, having you family so large and all in good health." he explained, shrugging to herself before he took another sip of his mead.
it shocked him, seeing her pull out a pouch of coin and immediately, he pushed it back towards her, "No." he stated simply before shaking his head, "I can not take this. I make enough money for myself and my sister to live comfortably. I do not need your charity." he replied, his words stern before he sighed, "maybe now would be a good time for me to walk you home?" he asked as he stood to his feet, "i do not think i can ever start to show my apologies to you, violet. but let me prove it by not taking your money." he expained before walking over to her side, he held out a hand for her to take - always the gentleman. |

"i know i am lucky." she said quietly, staring at her mead. violet loved each of her family members, more than she could ever say. but now, violet thought it wise to remain quiet. she didn't want to offend the young man in front of her any further, even if the smile on his face appeared to be true.
though he certainly had no qualms about offending her. violet had offered the money genuinely, and told him not to be noble, yet he still pushed it back towards her. 'it's not charity," violet insisted, though it seemed to be pointless. some small part of her was impressed, but for the most part, she couldn't believe it. here she was, trying to do something nice, and she gets it thrown back in her face. "at least take enough to cover the mead." violet compromised, removing a few coins from the bag and putting them on the table before tucking the purse away again.
she gave a short nod when aleks suggested he walk her back to mistveil keep. violet had no idea how late it was, but she didn't fancy wandering around riften by herself under cover of darkness. hopefully having aleksander's company would force any unsavory types to reconsider before attacking them. getting to her feet, violet left her unfinished mead, and took aleks hand. it seemed so natural to do so, that for a moment she forgot he was a thief. as they walked to the door, violet pulled her hood back up and wrapped her cloak around herself, preparing herself for the cold that certainly awaited them outside.
as they walked, violet kept quiet, concentrating on walking straight and not worrying about being spotted while she was trying to get back to her room. she was hoping her absence had gone unnoticed, but you could never know with her lady mother. it seemed like no time at all before they were in front of mistveil keep, the shadow of the great building hiding them should anyone think to look outside. "thank you for walking me." violet turned to aleks, letting go of his hand as she did so. "and for the mead, though i'm afraid i didn't finish it." she let out a short, quiet laugh, before smiling at him. "i guess i shall bid you a goodnight. and.. good luck." |

N/A | [atrb=style, width: 265px;][atrb=valign,top]with her words, reassuring him that she knew she was lucky to have the family that she did, aleks smiled, glad she wasn't taking what she had for granted. the young bosmer always felt that he had, always felt as though he took his parents for granted before they had passed and, if they had lived, he would have surely tried to savour their lover and affection for as long as he could. his family had always meant the world to him, even though he was young and foolish he knew they were the ones that he needed to cherish. there were days where he knew he needed to count his blessings when it came to his sister - he knew he was lucky to at least still have her by his side.
refusing her charity once more, he shook his head, took out his own coin and placed the correct amount onto the table before she took his hand, "perhaps if we end up doing this again, my dear lady, i'll let you have the privilage of paying." he teased before he felt her tak his hand. it was somewhat of a shock really, he hadn't really expected her to put her hand in his, if only for cautionary reasons. but now that he soft, delicate hand was in his, aleks prayed that she didn't let go, if only because of the soft tingle that ran up his spine at the sign of her touch.
as they walked out of the inn, her hood up and cloak wrapped about her, aleks stayed open and in sight. tonight would be a quiet night, seeing as most of the jobs in the thieves guild were in other places scattered amongst skyrim.
their steps were slow and leisurely as aleks started to lead them back towards mistveil keep, his hand still locked with hers as they walked. it stunned him to realize that she allowed him to hold her hand for this long, but eventually it was all going to come to an end - something the young thief truly did not want. her company had been refreshing, seeing as she knew just whom he was, but was neither a member of the guild nor a business partner. but now, as they stood in front of the keep, his height towering over them, aleks turned atoward her, still keeping a hold on her hand as she spoke, "it was my pleasure." he stated and gave her a geniune smile, "thank you, my lady." he replied before bring her hand up and bowing his head down to place a kiss to the back of it, "until we meet again, i wish you the best on your search." he stated and straightened himself, keeping that smile on his face the entire time. |
