[/div] tagged: hjornskar/ lauren words: 1034[/div] rolling over in bed, she let out a soft groan of discomfort. the sun hadn't even risen yet and she knew that it was time for her to get up. the rest of the companions would get another hour or so to sleep, seeing as they had earned it with committing years, so far. elyna wasn't so lucky, having only been with the companions for a couple of years, she needed to be up earlier, training. having never really been a morning person in the first place, elyna sometimes found it extremely difficult to get out of bed. opening one eye, she found that the sun was far from rising and that meant that elyna was just on time. drawing in a deep breath, she shut both eyes tightly and pushed herself up into a sitting position before rubbing her eyes and having a nice, long stretch. letting out a soft sound of relief, as her joints and muscles stretched out and grew accustomed to moving, she slid out of bed and quickly changed into her armor.
as she walked up to the main hall of jorrvaskr, she put her hair up in a braid and tried to get the stray hairs out of her face before she grabbed an apple off the table and took a bite. a decent breakfast before training; it wasn't like she got hungry right when she got up anyways. it was rare to see elyna eating breakfast so early. she usually found herself craving food two or three hours after she started to training, which was odd for some of the companions and they never really understood. to be honest, elyna didn't understand, herself.
walking out into the cold, winter air, she smiled to herself and basked in it. she loved the crisp feeling on her cheeks and nose and the initial burst of refreshing feeling she got from the air. for a few moments she just stood outside, taking bites out of her apple until it was nothing but the core and then threw it onto the ground over her shoulder. after she was done, she pulled out both her daedric and skyforge steel swords and walked up to the training dummy with a determined look upon her young face. spinning the swords in her hands, she started off and went at the dummy like no one's business. she took her time at jorrvaskr seriously and would do anything to become the inner circle. she channeled the feelings she got when she came back to the marshes to finish off the enemy that she had attempted to kill three years before. the giant frost spider had been her first successful kill and form then on she wanted to feel that sense of pride and accomplishment any chance that she got. as fortune woud have it, she got it every time she finished a job with the companions. every time she came back from a completed job that she accompanied on.
bringing out everything she knew, she attacked the dummy again and again, leaving dents and cracks, slices and thrashes. her grunts and hollars coming from ther very belly as she fought the object that could obviously not fight back. however, she fought it and attacked it as if it could; she pretended as if she was fighting an adversary that was a match to her own strength but acting as if she didn't give him a chance to fight back.
as young as elyna was, most people didn't know of her age until she spoke it and it brought most people surprise. the way that she held herself and spoke made her seem older, more mature than most girls her age. she had a lot of growing up to do when she was in morthal, seeing as it was just herself her mother, so she knew many things about life that most didn't, at her age, at least. she knew of discipline, of hardship and of hard work. everything she did was to basically just survive; there was no luxury in her life and she appreciated it for all she was worth. it made her feel as though she was able to appeciate and rationalize things better, make her a better person. her mother always told her not to take things for granted, so she didn't.
all of these thoughts ran through her mind as she pushed herself harder and harder. she could feel the sweat run down the back of her neck, even in the cold air. there was one thing in life she wanted so badly and that was to become one of the inner circle companions. to learn their secrets and be known as one of those legendary warriors who were written about in books, handed down from generation to generation. kodlak seemed to be putting more pressure on her every day, making her work harder for her goal, which elyna honestly appreciated. she didn't want him to play favourites with her, he wanted her to treat her as if she was just another recruit.
her breathing started to become heavier, what felt like five minutes had already been a half an hour of her just fighting and attacking. and, finally, after a few more blows, she stopped. panting heavily, she leaned over and caught her breath. she was so caught up in the moment that she didn't realise just how hard she was pushing herself. the lack of food in her stomach mixed with the excelerated exertion of energy made her feel nauseous.
after a few deep breaths, she straightened herself, only to look up at the back enterance of jorrvaskr and see hjornskar lookiing down at her, "what are you doing up so early?" she inquired before she sheathed her swords and looked up at him, "don't you have an extra hour to sleep in?" she added as she placed her hands on her hips and wiped her forehead with the back of her sleeve. to be honest she was kind of embarrassed to see him out here watching her; she knew she didn't look the most attractive when she fought, so having him see her like that, so lost in the moment, was embarrassing to say the least. notes: sorry this is probably terribad. COME BACK TO ME IT'S ALMOST EASY Not usually one to miss sleep, Skar was wondering why he was already awake. He couldn't think of any good reasons. One moment he had been peacefully sleeping, and the next he was wide awake, and blinking in the dim candlelight. Skar had slept well the night before, if not long enough. His mind was at ease this morning, aside from wondering why he was awake at this hour. He supposed he could climb out of bed, even though he didn't particularly feel like letting everyone else know that he was awake. He pushed back the heavy blankets, and eased his feet to the cold stone floor. The feel made him shiver, and he immediately reached for clothes. His body normally ended up feeling like it was burning while he slept, so he normally slept naked. Even in winter, once he was in bed and covered, it was only a matter of time before it was like a sauna around him. Skar stood, stretched, and shook his body. Perhaps he needed to start going to bed later? Was that what his body was trying to tell him? Skar never went to bed early. He didn't want to seem like he was getting old. No, he would stay up until he couldn't stand up anymore. The exception to this was when he was in combat situations, and he needed to be ready for a fight. He was no use to his comrades if he was tired, so he made it a point to be in the best shape he could be all around most of the time. He was guilty of letting himself go when he was just sitting around Jorrvaskr. Perhaps he needed to stop that. Skar tugged on his clothes, then some boots. He was tired of standing on the cold floor. He wasn't doing any good down here in his room, so he left. He could go up and see who was up and about. He hadn't bothered to strap on any armour, nor had he bothered with a weapon. If someone decided to pounce him in the hall to teach him a lesson about how he should always be prepared, it would be a good chance for him to work on some hand-to-hand sparring. Skar could be a tad lazy when he felt like he could get away with it.
Skar could hear the various recruits waking, and rising. The loud thunking from his heavy boots brought the sound of growling from one door, but Skar didn't stop and ask. He had seen the wolf around already. He hadn't meant to bother the animal. He just wasn't very quiet unless he was trying to be. Reaching the end of the hall, he jogged up the steps, and into the main hall of Jorrvaskr. It seemed that while some of the residents were waking, most of them were still sleeping soundly, like he should have been. He turned to look out of the window, not expecting to see anyone. He was just scanning outside, to see what time it really was. He was surprised to see motion. The very dim light was just enough for him to make out the familiar, vibrant red hair. His favorite recruit. Grinning, Skar stepped outside to the training yard. The air sent a chill through his body, but he simply shrugged it off. His eyes found Elyna easily. He didn't have a hard time seeing in the dark, even in this form he could see pretty well. He followed her movements, watching her as the sun got nearer and nearer to rising. He ended up becoming totally wrapped up in what she was doing. He leaned against to doorway, folding his arms over his chest, but his eyes were following her, and he wasn't missing a move. She slowed, and worry lined his brow as she caught her breath. Was she alright? Was anything wrong? Skar kept his post, and waited. Maybe she had just been out here longer than he had realized. She spotted him, he grinned. He didn't have good answers for her, so he just watched her for a bit longer before deciding to speak. "You woke me with your banging and clanging. Sing me a lullaby to out me back to sleep..." He shrugged his shoulders. "Or give me a good knock on the head. Either will do." Skar's mouth had curved into his natural smile. "I'll even bend down so you can reach." Skar loved to pick at Elyna. She took it well, and didn't let him ruffle her feathers. He motioned at her to come in. The air was chilly, and he could see the sheen of sweat. He didn't want her to get sick out here, and they could always go back out once the sun was up, and the bite was out of the air. "Let's have breakfast, unless you've already eaten. Then later we can spar together. How does that sound?" He didn't want to see anything happen to her. Jorrvaskr would be less fun without the little spitfire roaming the halls. He was glad that she was there. He had been getting to know her better lately, and he had to admit he had been a bit surprised after then first time that they had met. She didn't act like a little girl at all, not that, that was a problem to him. She just hadn't been what he had expected, and he liked it. He had been at Jorrvaskr for a while, but he hadn't taken the time to become very friendly with anyone. They were all his allies, his comrades, drinking buddies, and he was friendly with them. He just didn't know anyone very well, and vice-versa. They were all a fairly quiet group of people when it came to their personal lives, and Skar didn't mind it. It seemed that Elyna was determined to push the envelope. He wasn't sure if she just wanted him to vouch for her to become a companion, or if she was genuinely interested in getting to know him better. It was a little strange to him, but he didn't mind. He liked her company. WORDS 1,070 TAGGED ELYNA/CHARLIE NOTES TROLOLOLOLOL TEMPLATE BY WE WERE INFINITE ! OF CAUTIO 2.0

[/div] tagged: hjornskar/ lauren words: 876[/div] when she had first caught sight of hjornskar staring at her and watching her, she felt highly embarrassed and aware of the way she looked. the feeling was foreign and the scary part was that she kind of liked it. elyna had never really paid attention to boys, if only because she was far too wrapped up in her training and dreams to even think about men. however, now that her dreams had come true, she was starting to notice some of the men in whiterun. most were either not eligible or just someone she was not interested in, but there were a few that she definitely took notice. unfortunately, as she was realizing now, one of those men was hjornskar. she would never admit it to anyone, she was barely admitting it to herself, but it was definitely there. at first she had started talking to him because he seemed like someone who was easy to get to know, but that soon proved the opposite. now it was almost like a mission for her to crack him open and figure him out. the whole time, she had been honest with him and she would continue to be as such towards him. any question he could ask, she would answer it honestly. elyna had nothing to hide, so why should she lie about anything?
his words caused a smirk to form on her young lips, she didn't think she had been that loud this morning, but she could see how it could wake someone. his request to have her sing him a lullaby had her arching a brow at him, "i could, if you wish to have horrible nightmares all night." she joked and smirked at him before he mentioned hitting him over the head with something. a giggle escaped her throat before she shook his head, "going to need something better than a 'good knock' to have you pass out. i don't think even a rock could get through that thick skull of yours." she teased. she enjoyed their playful and harmless banter, not ever taking what hjornskar said seriously. elyna knew how to take a joke and, to be honest, skar had a good sense of humor. sometimes it tended to get on her nerves, when he got too cocky or if he went too far, but she always let him know with a punch to the nose or arm and he would usually stop. his next jab at her height made her roll her eyes. being half breton, she unfortunately inherited the short stature of her people, which was hard sometimes, seeing as most of skyrim's population towered over her.
at the same time, being so short did have it's advantages. on the job, it was usually elyna who was sent into the cave first, seeing as she was small and could sneak around easily. she was also very fast for her height, which made her not only hard to catch, but terribly hard to catch up to, if she got going.
when he asked if she had eaten breakfast, she shook her head and started to undo her braid, "no, i haven't. just an apple." she explained to him as he finished untyping her braid. walking up to the entrance, she smirked up at him, "you look weird without your armor on." she mentioned to him, smirking as she walked passed him and into jorrvaskr, "and yes, i would like to take you up on your sparing offer." she added before she stopped and turned around to face him, "perhaps today will be the day i take you down." she mused before she ran a hand through her hair, only to feel something sticky. immediately, she pulled her hand away, seeing a cut on her palm, "shit." she murmured; she had only put on her chest, leggings and boots, no gloves. she felt as thought the hindered her wielding when it came down to it. grabbing a cloth, she put it on her palm and shook her head, "must have happened while i was in the moment." she explained before she pulled the cloth away and saw it was not as deep as she thought it was, "i should be fine." she explained before giving him a reassuring smile.
over the few years that herself hjornskar had known each other, he seemed to be growing this protectiveness of her. she had no idea whether it was in a brotherly sense or possibly something more. either way, when she showed him her cut, she could see the worry on his face, so she distracted him, "let's go eat! i'm starved!" she exclaimed before she headed back towards the table. as she walked there, she pulled the cloth off again and cursed herself for being so clumsy and stupid for not wearing her gloves. she could only assume that hjorn was not impressed with her and thought of her as nothing but a fool for doing what she had. to distract herself, she spoke again, "so, what are you hungry for? i vote that we eat as much meat as possible before the other come up, otherwise we won't be getting any." she joked and giggled before grabbing a pair and taking a bite. notes: clumcy elyna is clumsy

COME BACK TO ME IT'S ALMOST EASY He paused to think that over for a bit. He was sure that hearing her sing would be worth horrible nightmares. "Perhaps you'll have to stay with me then, to sing me back to sleep when the nightmares wake me." He was clearly amused with the thought. "But I doubt that, that could be true. I can't remember the last time I had a nightmare. It's hard to scare me." Skar peered down at her, already enjoying the time with her. "Now that is probably true. I can be quite hardheaded. That just means I'm less likely to suffer head trauma." He winked down at the petite ginger. He genuinely enjoyed her company. She was a fun person, and that could be kind of hard to find within the Companions. They could be a wee bit uptight for Hjornskar's tastes. He genuinely enjoyed the way she teased him, and she was easy on the eyes too. He liked having her around more than he would ever admit. Sometimes he would catch himself thinking about her in ways that he really shouldn't have been. It wasn't always inappropriate thoughts either. While he couldn't deny that he had thought about her like that before, he wasn't always just thinking about what she looked like in only her own skin. Sometimes he caught himself caring about her more than he should. Occasionally he was caught off guard by how protective he was of her. Sometimes he was surprised by how happy being around her could make him. It wasn't something he needed. It wasn't something either of them needed. He had decided a long time ago to bury all of those feelings, no matter how small or slight they were. He couldn't let thoughts like that live. He couldn't feed the fire. He wouldn't. Hjornskar had no interest in romance, no matter how much he could flirt, or how charming he could be. He was not interested in a romantic relationship, and he was not about to change his mind for a girl nearly ten years younger than he. Not to mention she was Kodlak's daughter, even if their relationship was not typical. No, Elyna was just a good friend. He would not treat her as any more or any less. They did not need the distraction.
"Don't you know better than to work on an empty stomach, girl?" He shook his head at her, clearly not approving. "I just don't want an empty stomach to distract you from the enemies." Hjornskar never missed a meal if he could help it, but sometimes he ran on little fuel. "Weird meaning you never realized any human could have this much natural bulk?" Skar grinned. It was true, he was tall and broad. He was built like a brick wall, and probably harder to tear down. He prided himself on his physique. He had always been built for a human, and the beast blood had just added more vitality and life to him. Now he was a two hundred and some pound werewolf that was tall even for a Nord. "Take me down where? If you promise to be gentle, I just might let you." Another wink. He realized that he probably shouldn't speak in such a way with her, but hopefully she wouldn't mind. Truthfully Skar wasn't much of a "be gentle" person, but she didn't need to know that. It's not like it would ever matter. His eyes widened when he caught sight of the blood. He stared at the cut, listening to her explanation. It didn't seem bad, so he relaxed after a few moments, asking himself why he got so worked up over a tiny cut. She drew him out of his thoughts, and he followed her. "I like meat." He agreed with a nod. It was certainly not his most brilliant of lines, but it did the trick, right? "I'm not as hungry as I thought I was." He replied, but that changed when he smelled food coming from the hall. "I'll be back." He had been about to sit down when he'd been dragged away by his sense of smell. He went to the kitchen, and fetched two heaping plates of fresh breakfast. He took the plates back to Elyna, and before she could say anything he had gone to fetch them both something to drink it down with. "There, now eat up." Skar said as he took a seat next to her. "If you're going to be sparring me today, you'll need your strength." He gave her a pat on the head before digging in to his own food. He ate quickly, scarfing food down like he hadn't eaten in weeks. Soon he was going back for seconds. "So, what's your next job then? Have then given you anything to do? I don't pay attention like I should when the circle meets. I'm normally too excited about what comes after." Skar was planning on leaving soon to deal with a Falmer problem near Solitude. It was a long journey, so he was spending the time between here and there preparing for it. He liked taking on the odd job here and there, but he usually worked alone, unless someone asked for his help. He wasn't the type to ask for it himself. "I'd say they'll start considering you more seriously now. You've been around for a while, after all. You've done your part. You've shown everyone what you're made of. Hold in there, you'll get it. I know you're good enough. I'm not saying go out and do something reckless, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to show everyone what you'll really made of, and prove to them that you're ready to fight alongside us." He regretted saying that almost instantly. He knew how she was. He hoped she didn't get herself hurt, or worse. WORDS 1,026 TAGGED ELYNA/CHARLIE NOTES TROLOLOLOLOL TEMPLATE BY WE WERE INFINITE ! [/div] tagged: hjornskar/ lauren words: 979[/div] throughout the years of knowing hjorn, elyna had picked up on his flirtatious and charming habits. at first she had been foolish enough to think that they were all aimed towards him, until he saw the man doing the same thing with aela and the other women of jorrvaskr. the disappointment had dissipated a while ago and she had grown accustomed to his ways. so, as he spoke of her singing him back to sleep after the nightmares she would have ensued in the first place. it was quite comical, the thought, "oh, i bet i could make you have nightmares..." she explained before smirking at him, "i bet you my voice is that bad" she added, the smirk still on her face. elyna let out a soft laugh at his words,"i feel as though we should experiment with this. see how much it takes before you are on the ground, unconscious." she teased lightly. in all honestly, elyna didn't think she could inflect any pain on the man standing before her, just simply because of how much she cared for him. sometimes he did make teasing remarks that landed him a playful punch to the arm, but nothing beyond that.
"i don't get hungry this early in the morning. i need to work up my appetite before i dig in." her explanation was sound as she nodded towards hjorn. it was much warmer inside jorrvaskr, even though the fiery red head didn't even notice how cold it was outside before she had actually stepped inside. immediately it felt as though her very bones were thawing from being frozen stiff. his next works caused a soft smile to form on her lips before she spoke, "i appreciate you looking out for me..." she started before she placed her hand on his shoulder, "but i think i can manage fighting on an empty stomach. i'll probably be worrying about something a bit more important at hand." it was the truth. why would she be worrying about her hunger when someone was trying to decapitate her? however, she had seen just how much hjorn could eat, so it didn't surprise her to see him so concerned about her own food intake. it was kind of amusing actually, to see him to protective of her and making sure she ate enough - it was almost like he was her brother, but not quite. as much as elyna had tried seeing him in the sibling type of light, it was just too hard when the romantic feelings seemed to make an entrance.
elyna couldn't help but roll her eyes when he mentioned his 'natural bulk' before she shook her head, 'it's cheating when you have a certain genetic help." she observed. when he questioned her about the 'taking down' she was going to be doing while they sparred, she put her hands on her hips and looked right up at him with a confidence that could not be denied, "i could take you down, if i really tried. there a few tricks up my sleeve." she explained with a nod. right after that statement, she could see the blood on her hand and it startled her for a moment; she had been herself bloodied before, but not after a simple dummy training. after quickly covering it with a cloth and assuring hjornskar that she was alright, she changed the subject to breakfast. with a low grumble that erupted from her stomach, elyna put her hands over it. just as she was about to look up and say something, he was telling her that he could be right back. the excitement on his face was unmistakable and the younger companion couldn't help but let out a soft laugh as she sat down at the table.
it was only a moment before the large man came back with their food, only to disappear for another short while. elyna furrowed her eyebrows as he left, feeling as though she had been abandoned, until he came back with their drinks. looking down at the food, her stomach gave out another low grumble, her nose telling it that it was time to fill up. quickly, she started to chomp down on the food in front of her before letting out a moaning sigh of contentment. the food at jorrvaskr was always so delicious and succulent; so many flavours and textures. looking over at hjorn, she smirked at the sight of his plate being empty before he got back up and went for seconds, "do you even chew your food?" she questioned before he came back and sat down beside her once more.
at the question about her jobs, she nodded softly and shrugged, "apparently it's just to exterminate some beats that have invaded someone's home. it's close to whiterun, so they're still keeping me close." she explained. she had been getting jobs like that lately and, as boring as elyna found them, she knew that they were necessary. when hjorn started to go off about how she was proving herself to everyone and impressing them, a smile formed on her lips. she knew that skar was one of her closest friends by now, but it still meant a lot to hear him say things such as what he was now, "you think?" she questioned before he mentioned her doing something that would prove herself. a grin formed on her lips at the thoughts, not trying to brainstorm just what she could possibly do to prove to everyone in the circle that she was meant to be in it, as well, "like what? taking on the silver-hand single handed?" she asked, her eyes looking upon the man's face before she turned to look at her food, "i could, possibly...go along with you. maybe?" she asked. she knew that hjorn liked to do his jobs alone, but she figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. notes: heehee, so excited for these two omgomg. gunna be so awesooome. COME BACK TO ME IT'S ALMOST EASY "I'm always hungry." Hjornskar replied with a shurg. "But what can I say, I'm a growing boy." He reached down to pat his stomach. The warmth of Jorrvaskr filled him from his head to his toes, and a shiver ran through his body as it adapted to the temperature change. "Well, I don't know about you, but hunger makes me weaker, my reaction time slower, and my fighting sloppier. It's just not for me, clearly." He shrugged, unashamed that he was happier in general with nourishment in his body. "But if my little machine likes to fight on an empty stomach, then I guess I'll just wait until she wears herself down, and then force feed her some nice thick stew." He nodded, even though he wasn't sure where he would get the stew if they were away from Jorrvaskr. It wasn't like he was much on cooking. He had done it a few times, but it had never turned out very well. He would only eat his own cooking if he absolutely had to. Maybe that was something he needed to work on? He had to admit that it was a handy skill to have, but he wasn't sure if he really wanted to put effort into learning how to cook. He smirked when he felt her hand on his shoulder, wondering if she'd had to stretch to reach him. "Someone has to look out for you, especially if you won't look out for yourself." He patted her on her head, but was careful to be gentle. He didn't want to thump her too hard and give her brain damage or anything. When she mentioned his "help" with his physique, he tilted his head to give her a look. How dare she suggest that his bulk wasn't natural. "What are you trying to say?" He asked in a mock offended tone. "This house was built before the add-on." He raised an eyebrow, just to make it clear that he took his body very seriously. Of course he wasn't truly offended, but really, a woman should never insult or question a man's size. Honestly, what was she thinking? Of course it was natural. His body was a gift from the heavens.
"I only chew it if it's bigger than my mouth." He replied in jest. He was a very fast eater, but he could only imagine how much fun Elyna would have is she had to save him from choking. He would never, ever hear the end of that. "Sure." He said after a moment's thought in response to her quest. "If you want, in between my big jobs, we can do some stuff nearby. I'm not trying to keep you close. I just thought that getting a lot done in a short period of time would serve well. It would be good training for you, and maybe I'll let you come with me on some of my bigger jobs." He shrugged. He wasn't sure if she'd be interested in his offer, but he understood her want to become a member of the circle. He had been there. Plus, he liked Elyna. Traveling with her would be fun, he thought. "It's okay if you'd rather work with someone else. It was just an idea I had. It would be good for you to get out more often, and if I take you under my wing, more than I already have, maybe it will move things along." Hjornskar resumed eating. He was warm, and he had a full stomach. He was a happy man. Thinking back onto something she had said he realized that she may have been a bit more serious than he had thought. She was pretty serious about becoming a circle member, and she had been at it for a while. Maybe she was nearing the "whatever it takes" mindset. He absolutely did not want that. "But let me know if you're going to take on Silver-hands. They're vicious, they hate us, and you're still just human. That means that the silver won't poison you, but you're a lot easier to hurt than we are." Skar gently reached over, and took her chin in his hand, holding it as softly as he could between his thumb and fore-finger. "It would be a shame to ruin that pretty face." He leaned over, and kissed her forehead, but only after he had wiped the food crumbs away from his mouth, of course.
Soon he was done with his second plate, and his attention was back on her. "Sheesh woman, how much are you going to eat?" Of course he was only picking on her. She hadn't had nearly as much as he had. He wouldn't have said anything at all if he hadn't finished before she did. "How's that hand doing?" He asked peering over it. If it was bothering her, he didn't mind if she decided to sit out. Of course he expected her to soldier through. She was that type of person. If the sparring aggravated it, they could always quit. "Whenever you're ready then. I'll be back." He left the table again, and headed back outside. As much as he was enjoying the fire, he didn't want to deal with the fuss if he decided to spar within Jorrvaskr. Once he was outside, he began stretching out his muscles. He was sure that she wouldn't take it easy on him, so he wanted to be nice and limber. Cramping up during sparring wasn't fun. He was well aware of that. Hjornskar went to a nearby weapon rack, full of different types of single handed and two handed weapons. They were all older, beaten up, and dulled for sparring. He would have used his own weapons, but he didn't want to risk harming her. One wrong move, and he could run her through. He certainly didn't want that. He was willing to wait on her. Maybe she wanted to go put some armour on? Maybe she had some thing to do before joining him? He didn't mind. He pulled a dull, steel greatsword off of the weapon rack, and slowly began to move it around his body with his right hand. He was trying to warm his muscles up. After a bit he switched to his left hand. He was right handed, but he could still fight pretty well with his left. After a bit of jabbing, slicing, and working the blade through the air, he turned to a dummy. He didn't put very much energy into the attacks. He was being sloppy with the dummy, and anyone who had ever seen him fight would know it. There was no point in him getting worked up before he started sparring with Elyna. He didn't want to be sore or tired when she made her way out here. He needed to be on his toes, and he needed to be thinking sharp. [/div] tagged: hjornskar/ lauren words: 1139[/div] ever since she was a child, elyna's mother always told her to eat her breakfast and to never greet the day with an empty stomach. but the red-head's stomach wasn't like most, whenever she ate breakfast too early in the morning, she felt sick - sick enough to let the breakfast back up. unfortunately, her mother assumed it was just a phase and for over a decade she tried to make elyna eat her breakfast until, finally, elyna started to refuse. eventually there was nothing he mother could do and the petite breton/nordic mix would be out training or running around. it would only be another hour or so before she would come back home and eat the breakfast that he mother would leave on the table. hjornskar sometimes reminded her of what her mother used to do and it made her slightly homesick, though she never let it show. she was a companion now, there was no time for weakness, "why does that sound somewhat phallic to me?" she asked him, as he spoke of feeding her some 'hot stew'. it was then that she realized that her mind was thinking of things mush too inappropriate about the man in front of her. it was then that she averted her eyes down to her breakfast and took a couple a of bites.
when he patted her head, she allowed herself to turn her gaze to him, her blue eyes looking at him before she smirked, "admit it, you enjoy looking out for me, makes you feel more like a man." she explained before she mentioned that his large physique was helped by the wolf blood coursing through his veins. however, it seemed as though the older companion didn't exactly enjoy that statement. elyna looked up at him like a deer in the headlight - she never meant to offend him - especially him. she swallowed hard before she shook her head at him, "sorry, hjorn..." she stated before she looked back down at her food, "i did not meant to offend you." she added before once again changing her gaze back to look at him, "if that's true, then it's very impressive." she nodded before he spoke about chewing only things that were bigger than his mouth. giggling softly at his words, she shook her head, "one of these days, you're going to choke." her smile was genuine as she took another bite of her breakfast.
his acceptance to her request made her heart swell with excitement and gratitude as she sat up straight on the bench. her face lit up like a festival before she nodded at him, "yes, that sounds fine. i don't mind staying close, i just want the bigger job, eventually. so...are you saying i can go with you on a couple?" she asked, her voice showing her excitement before he stated that it was fine if she wished to go with someone else, "why would i want to do that? with you i have my own personal body guard." she explained before smirking at him. she couldn't begin to explain just how excited she was, she knew that almost every other member of the inner circle hated the thought of bringing the elyna along - they saw it as just a babysitting job. with skar, he knew she could take care of herself.
apparently, mentioning the silver-hand to hjornskar wasn't exactly the best of ideas, seeing as he was telling her to not even think about it. she was about to protest to his words before she felt his hand on her chin, pulling her face closer to his own. her heart jumped into her throat as her big blue eyes looked up at him; he was much more gentle that she thought he would be. as his face leaned in closer, she closed her eyes and allowed herself to bask in the feel of his lips against her forehead. a smile tugged onto her lips from his words before he pulled away and she opened her eyes to look at him. it was a dangerous feeling, having affection towards someone who she had no chance in the world with. hjornskar had the choice of any other woman in skyrim, if he wanted, so elyna knew that there was no chance that he would ever show such affection towards herself.
her thoughts were shattered at the sound of his teasing her before she looked at the two plates he had already eaten and the on that she was just about done, "oh this? this is nothing. i could eat a whole bear, if i wished." she teased before finishing off her own plate and pushing it towards the center of the table. looking down at her hand, she flexed it a couple of times before looking back up at him with a soft smile, "it's fine. i'll manage." she stated before turning that smile into a smirk, "why? hoping i'll back to so you don't have you ass handed to you?' she teased; elyna figured that he was going to overpower her - he was a better warrior as well as an older one. he had been doing this much longer than she had and she understood that she would get there eventually. however, that in no way meant that she wasn't going to give it her all. watching him get up and go, elyna took the plates and put them in the kitchen to be washed before walking towards the main hall. she could see out the window him warming up and getting himself ready for a sparring match and all elyna did was stand and stare. she had sparred with skar plenty of times bu the sight of seeing him fight, in a training matter or otherwise, was entertainment enough for her.
finally, she decided to bring her presence outside and as she walked out, she could see skar stretching - having already done a bit of a workout today, she didn't feel the need to do so. walking up to the weapons rack, she pulled out two steel swords and spun them in her hands, getting the feel and weight of them before it would be time for the two of them to go head to head. she was wearing nothing but her ebony chest plate, her long hair of fire up in a pony tail and out of her face as she looked at him with a soft smirk, "you ready to kiss the ground?" she asked before she looked at him with a smirk on her face. when he said that he was ready, she got into her battle stance, waiting for him to make the first move. elyna didn't have nearly the same amount of brutality and strength and hjorn, but she certainly upped him when it came to agility and speed. notes: elyna nad hjornskar sittin' in a tree s-p-a-r-r-i-n-g . COME BACK TO ME IT'S ALMOST EASY He nearly choked when she mentioned how his words had wounded to her. He coughed a few times, but the coughing quickly turned into laughter. "Well, well, someone's mind is on something it shouldn't be." Of course Hjornskar had no idea that he might acually be right about that. He was just picking with Elyna. He hadn't meant it like that either. That wasn't to say that he wouldn't, because under different circumstances he certainly would have, but the thought hadn't crossed his mind then. However, it did cross his mind more than he would have liked. "I do, I do. You caught me." He responded with a smile. "Not that I need anything to make me feel more like a man, because come on, look at me." He puffed out his chest and grinned. "You didn't actually offend me, Kid. Don't worry. Just bruised my ego a bit. The beast blood might have helped a bit. I didn't notice a significant change in my stature, but it did change me in a few other ways." He wasn't necessarily proud of some of those ways. The members of the circle all knew about the biggest problem with these changes. It was why his door could be barred shut from the outside. He always told the recuits that he slept-walk, and that the circle members used it to keep him safe on the nights he might be prone to sleep walking. That wasn't the truth, but he was ashamed that he couldn't control himself better, so it was what he told everyone. He felt bad about lying, especially to Ely, but it kept everyone safe, and that was all he cared about. "If I choke will you save me, oh great one?" He turned to look at her, and batted his eyes. "You'll keep me safe from harm, won't you? I need a big, strong Breton like you to keep me safe." His voice was more high pitched than normal, and it was clear he was mocking damsels in distress everywhere. Elyna wasn't one of those, but he had noticed that sometimes she liked to bite off more than she could chew. He hoped that it didn't get her in trouble later on.
"Yeah, I'll start taking you on jobs with me. This might turn out to be one of my worse ideas, but we'll see. Maybe we'll have fun." He didn't mean that he wouldn't like her company or anything like that. He just hadn't worked with anyone since he had became a member of the circle. He had a habit of getting annoyed when people wanted to do things a way that wasn't what he had planned, but he could get over his pride long enough to help her out. It might actually be fun for all he knew. If he had managed to go on some quests with Aela, then he could handle going with Elyna. He smirked at her next words, and glanced over at her. "That's my girl." He replied with a nod. If it would keep her safe then he would go everywhere with her. He just wanted to know that she was safe, and not doing anything stupid. "Never do anything that I wouldn't do." Of course it was probably a bad idea for her to do some of the things that he would do, but he hoped that she had better judgement that he did. If she didn't then they would be in real trouble traveling together. "I'll believe that when I see it." She was about a fourth the size of a great bear. He doubted that she could eat more than a couple of rabbits, but he would soon find out he supposed. He held back laughter when she mentioned her injury. "Yes, that's it exactly. I'm actually shaking in my boots. You're so strong, and such a good fighter. I don't stand a chance." He placed the back of his hand against his forehead, again mocking damsels-in-distress. If he wasn't careful, he might become one. That would be the day, wouldn't it? Maybe someday Elyna would save him from certain death. The idea almost made him chuckle. She was good, but he was better, right? Of course he would think so. The boy had pride, and an ego the size of Whiterun. He didn't think he would ever find a situation he wouldn't be able to handle on his own.
Once she was outside with him, he took a moment to watch her. He watched her more than he watched anyone else, but now he was studying her as an opponent. Dual-weapon, and only a breastplate. Elyna wasn't the only one with a smirk. The cold air rippled through his thin clothing, but he barely noticed it. He was busy assessing his strike. "Be gentle. It's my first time." He said with a wink. He raised his blade, holding it defensively. Swatting at her calf with the end of the sword, he started them off. The swat had been gentle, more playful than anything. His body was crouched, but just barely. There was only enough bend in his legs so he could move to either side. He wasn't very alert yet. He wasn't sure what he was dealing with, so he was waiting to see how she was at striking with those two blades. He swung the blade again, gently, this time swatting at the breastplate. It was painfully obvious that he was just playing with her. Still smirking, he began to jab at her chest with his sword. He had more reach then she did with his giant blade. It was clear that he was amused. He was trying to push her to attack him. He wanted to see what she could do. Finally he was tired of playing, and he moved his blade back in front of his chest. He lunged toward her, and dropped his shoulder. He went from about a yard and a half away from her, to only a few feet away, in a matter of seconds. Before his shoulder could hit, he rocked back, and moved out of her range, raising his sword to block any strikes she had aimed for him. He was still just messing around. He was trying to find weaknesses, breaks in her defense. He really wanted to push her. He really wanted her to come after him. If she managed to hurt him, then good for her. He would be proud if anything. He kept his blade raised, and constantly moved his body, even if it was something as simple as shifting his weight back and forth. Planting himself was dangerous. He had learned that many, many years ago. If he kept moving he would have a better chance at evading her. WORDS 1,200 TAGGED ELYNA/CHARLIE NOTES TROLOLOLOLOL TEMPLATE BY WE WERE INFINITE ! 962[/div] in all honesty, elyna couldn't even begin to explain how perfect the morning had been so far. everything she had ever dreamed of was happening right now; she had trained in the companion's own training area, eaten with one of their circle members and was now sparring with him. all in all, she could say that her dreams were coming true and that she knew that it wouldn't be long before she was one of the members of the circle as well. it wasn't as though she wasn't capable, hjorn seemed to enjoy assuring her of that. their conversations seemed to always lead to him telling her that she just needed to keep up what she was doing and elyna always questioning him; she made a mental not to stop doing such things. if hjorn thought she was good enough, she should accept it, not questioned asked.
the second he had agreed to let her come on some of his jobs, she could barely hold in her excitement. finally, she would have a chance to prove herself to every member of the circle - not to mention her own father - that she was good enough to be a part of the real members of the companions. of course, elyna knew that certain members of the circle were always skeptical, like skjor and aela, but that didn't discourage her. the young breton mutt was much too confident to have such a thing bring down her spirits, "thank you!" she exclaimed before she gave him a wide, genuine smile. there was no way that she was going to be letting him down, especially after he had just given her the opportunity of a lifetime. somethign that would really make her stand out, "i don't think i could even begin to show my gratitude!" hse explained before she looked down at her plate and then back at him, "do you want the rest of my breakfast?"
once the plates were all put away and being washed, elyna made her way back outside to start her training with the one person she knew would genuinely push her and accomidate to her needs. she had tried sparring with skjor and vilkas, but both just tried to beat her to the ground ot went far too easy on her. she needed someone to teach her the weakenesses that she wasn't completely aware of and hjorn was the perfect balance. he didn't try to 'teach her a lesson' in the sense that she would never become a true companion, but in the sense that it would actually improve on her battle skills. a lot of the time, she would find herself seeking him out, even though he would probably much prefer to be sparring with someone who was actually a challenge. lately, elyna could completely relate to that; it was getting far too easy for her to be sparring against the newer recruits, like herself. she wasn't bragging, but she knew that she was ahead of them by at least a level or two. the challenge in her fellow recruits was fading and that was why elyna had been seeking out the higher level members.
now that she had her weapons in her hands, she felt much more confident and prepared. seeing hjorn's height and built was always a bit intimidating, but she knew that he would never do her any real harm - at least not on purpose. when he had tapped her on the calf, she jerked her leg away and looked up at him with narrowed eyes. he was toying with her. obviously, the redhead knew what he was doing and she played along, allowing him to poke her in different locations before she finally saw him charging towards her. lifting her swords, she prepared her body for the impact, but when it never came, she immediately sprung into attack. swinging the steel with skill, she tried to catch them on anything of his that she could. obviously, him having a rather large sword (as well as the expert skill to wield it) , it was easy for him to block her attacks. this frustrated the young breton and eventually she pauased and took a step back. assessing the situation for a split moment, she changed up her routine.
just as he was about to bring his sword down upon her, she crossed her swords together, catching his with a loud crash of steel. his strength was twice hers and it took evrything in her to just push him off long enough so that she could take a few steps back. it was just enough time for her to catch her breath when she charged him again, letting out a cry as she swung her swords once more; as hard as she tried, it seemed as though it was no use. there was no way she was going to inflict any damage upon him. however, the youngest member of the companions didn't give up, she just simply kept trying. the sweat from exerting so much energy ran down the nape of her neck, the cool winter air causing some relief before she tried a risky move. managing to get behind him, she managed to jump up and wrap one arm around his neck. as he bent backwards to match her height, she grinned to herself, "not to tough now, are you?" she inquired in between heavy breaths as she pointed one of her swords towards where his spine would be. obviously the blade would do no damage, it was simply a symbol that she was beaten him - or so she thought. there was no certainty when it came to hjornskar - he seemed to always have a trick up his sleeve, at least when it came to elyna. notes: tell me if this was a bit too power playish. i just sort of rolled with it, but i can change it.
