Once the Skeleton Key is returned back to the Ebonmere, her abilities shall increase greatly with whatever gift Nocturnal bestows on her. - Archery Karliah is known to be an master marksman, as noted by Mercer Frey. Her aim is impeccable, not to mention deadly. - Sneak Part of being a Nightingale is the ability to use stealth to your advantage. As explained by Karliah, a Shadowcloak of Nocturnal can use the darkness around them to become completely invisible for a short but reasonable amount of time. - Alchemy After Karliah was exiled from the Guild, she made frequent stops at Snow Veil Sanctum, trying to recover things that belonged to Gallus, hoping she would be able to reveal evidence that Gallus's death was not her fault. Over time, she practiced making poisons, and eventually concocted a formula for a very unique paralytic poison. Unfortunately she only had enough poison for one shot, and she intended to use in on Mercer so she could take him back to the Guild alive and explain to the others that Mercer had lied to them, and had been stealing from the Guild. - Light Armor Karliah prefers to use Light Armor, and especially the Nightingale armor. It's dark and allows her to slip past in the shadows undetected. Lighter armors also means lighter on her feet so she can make a quick getaway if the need calls for it. HISTORY From the time she became of age, to the time she left home, Karliah was trained in the art of thievery by her mother Dralsi Indoril. She is a direct descendant of Queen Barenziah, and Drayven Indoril, who is rumored to be a descendant of the Dunmer saint Indoril Nerevar. When Karliah was about 20, she left home and joined the Thieves' Guild. She ended up doing small jobs for the higher-ranked members of the Guild, and usually Mercer came with her on every job they went on. She could trust him to watch her back and she watched his in return. Time passed and the Guild began slowly dwindling down in society. They were running out of funds, and Riften was starting to lose respect for them. Karliah, Mercer and Gallus were the members that made up the Nightingale Trinity at this time, and Mercer had stolen the Skeleton Key from the Twilight Sepulcher. The vault doors at the cistern were locked with some of the best puzzle locks money could by, and Mercer had used the Skeleton Key to dip into the money the Guild had. Gallus suspected what Mercer was doing, and was going to alert the other Guild members, but first he had to clear it with Karliah and notify her that he had desecrated the Twilight Sepulcher. Karliah met with Gallus at the Snow Veil Sanctum, deep within the ruin, but they were followed by Mercer, and he murdered Gallus. Before Karliah could get back to the Guild, Mercer had already been there and slandered Karliah's name, insisting that she had murdered their Guild master. Karliah was kicked out of the Guild, and she spent the next 25 years of her life in exile. She never slept in the same place twice and was very careful with covering her tracks. She developed a rather clever plan to show everyone that they had all been misled, so she began trying to drive a wedge between the Guild by indirectly infuriating Maven Black-Briar, one of the Guild's most influential clients. First, Karliah targeted Honningbrew Meadery in Whiterun. The owner Sabjorn needed help getting his meadery up and running, so Karliah gave him a large amount of gold so he could get started. Second, she targeted another organization. It was Goldenglow Estate in Riften, one of the bee farms that provided the honey that Maven needed to make her mead. Karliah convinced Aringoth to sell Goldenglow to her, and one of the Guild's inside men at the East Empire Company acted as the broker, but made the mistake of using one of his old aliases that Mercer Frey would recognize. PERSONALITY Karliah is clever and cunning, using everything Gallus taught her when she was a Nightingale. "To ensure an enemies defeat, you must first undermine their allies" was one of the first things Gallus taught her, and she used that to the letter to ensure that Mercer Frey's crimes were revealed to the rest of the Guild. She wanted her life back, and she was going to get it. She was also fiercely determined and perseverant, never giving up any of her tasks until they were performed to the letter. However, since the Key had been removed from the Ebonmere, Nocturnal was disappointed in Karliah, and she was in debt now. She's highly intelligent, and usually uses her enemies' weaknesses to her advantage to take them down. She despises Mercer bitterly, hoping that some day, if any day, he suffers the same feelings she was for the last 25 years. If it has to happen, she will kill him. |
