it felt like forever since vex had picked up a job, and before leaving the ratway she had worried that she had lost her talents when it came to burglary. but she was quick to disprove that. even so, it was a simple job, something more akin to what she'd dish out to the newbies, but she had seen it as an opportunity to build her strength up again, and of course, help her confidence. and she'd pulled it off without a hitch. right now, the jewelled candelabra she had been directed to steal rested against her hip in the woven bag slung over her shoulder. it felt a bit awkward, but since she was back underground, the weight was comforting. she had done it and although it was an easy job, vex couldn't help but feel self-satisfied.
since she blew the goldenglow estate job, she'd been recouping underground, allowing the wound that cut across her left side to heal without aggravating it. it took time, time vex knew she couldn't afford to waste on healing properly, but at the insistence of her colleagues, she had obeyed, allowing others to pick up her jobs while she lay on her bed going stir crazy. but this proved it. the new scar on her torso was still a horrid shade of pink, but the blonde was back in action, and even mercer frey himself wasn't going to stop her from taking any jobs that came her way. the thought made her smirk as she lowered herself into the lower section of the ratway.
choosing to go the long way back to the ragged flagon hadn't been her plan from the start, but the guard hanging around the tomb had forced her to change her route. not that vex minded. she was riding on a high after completing the job, and although her sword was drawn, she didn't think she'd need it. by this point in time, most of the vagrants who lived in the ratway knew to keep out of her way. and she'd cleaned out most of the skeevers when getting used to her sword once more.
she slowed her casual pace down, though, upon seeing a flickering light ahead. assuming it was candlelight, and therefore, being a camp belonging to one of the many homeless men and women who lived underground, vex crept forward, her steps soundless on the rough ground. she knew she had two choices; charge in and take anything valuable the vagrant had, or leave them in peace and make the long way around. but whether it was out of curiosity of the strange noises that her ears were now picking up, or the desire to gloat back at the guild about how she was ready to work once more, vex still moved forward, settling into the shadows as she tried to get a better look at the makeshift camp.
and what she saw surprised her, to say the least. there were two people, silhouetted by the light behind them. one lay on the roughly hewn bed roll that was on the ground, and the other hovering over them. their silhouettes didn't give vex much to go off, but the hoverer was larger, perhaps male, while the one lying down, if the dress was anything to go by and way she was lying, vex guessed to be female and lifeless. and then finally her brain made sense of the noises. he was feeding off her. getting to her feet, and revealing her presence, vex held her sword towards them both, admiring the way the light glinted off it despite herself.
"had your fill yet?" she asked of the vampire, her tone light, though her eyes held a challenge. she hadn't come across many of them in her life span, but every now and then one made their way down to the ratway, making easy meals off the weak stowaways who called it their home. anything that drew attention to the thieves guild's hideaway was an issue that they dealt with swiftly. "i need to get back, so if we could make this quick, i'd be grateful." her bravado wasn't false, but vex was aware that on most vampire extermination missions, she had delvin or another thief for back up. swallowing her fear for the moment, vex took a step forward, her sword still pointed at the monster's heart. |

come see my cage built in my grave , stoooked for this thread, mon. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 390px; padding-top: 20px; padding-bottom: 20px;]the ratway was one of the most familiar places to allimir, as unfortunate as that sounded. whenever he made an appearance in riften, you could always find the vampire somewhere within the ratway either before or after his business was concluded. considering he kept himself well fed, he didn't have any issues hiding the fact that he was a vampire from most of riften's citizens, but that didn't change the fact that stepping out into sunlight still let a very vivid sting along any exposed skin. it was possible for him to travel in sunlight with the pain, but it wasn't something he preferred, and having one of the guards notice the burn would be the end of his welcoming stay. so allimir kept himself rather hidden when the sun started to rise, usually camping within the depths of the sewers until nightfall.
on this particular early morning, allimir hadn't been expecting to come across anyone who wouldn't have their guard up, so when he was offered to join a woman at her fire, he was a tad surprised. she was an imperial, he could tell just from her skin tone, but he didn't hold any grudges against races; only individual people. so he accepted her offer, and let her go on about her adventures as though he'd never heard of anything so fearsome in his life. it didn't take long for her to notice the emblem on his chest, and that quickly transferred her attention off herself and onto him- something that allimir wasn't too pleased to have to deal with, but he kept his answers simple and to the point. anything she didn't need to know, he didn't bother even leading on to tell.
when he finally dressed himself down, having pulled his hood off, along with his gloves, he started to settle in a bit better. it was an amazement that that she didn't notice his eyes, darker than a black soul gem, but allimir didn't bother drawing any attention to the fact that he was mainly focusing on the sound of her heartbeat. his hunger was there, but it wasn't overpowering, and easily controllable. that didn't mean he wasn't going to have a little taste after he was sure she was in a deep sleep, though. and for the next half hour or so, he feigned sleep against the wall he'd taken to getting comfortable against, remaining unstill even while the strange woman inspected him. she seemed more curious with the fact that he was with the dark brotherhood than trying to check his pockets, though, which was the only reason why he didn't gut her when she placed her palm to his chest, trying to fit her hand into the imprinted one on his gear.
the woman fell asleep not too long after she gave up trying to learn more about him, cuddled up close to her secluded fire. it didn't take long before allimir's thoughts were twisting around themselves about her blood. when nothing but the sound of her deep breathing could be heard, he slowly shifted off the wall, moving silently to kneel over her. she was already on her side, leaving the left side of her neck exposed, minus a few strands of hair that he had to gently brush away. caressing underneath her head, he lifted it just a bit off the bedroll's pillow in order to give him a better angle, and in a matter of seconds, there was no going back from his feeding session.
his eyes closed, and for a moment, there was nothing but complete silence as he tasted her flowing blood. it was hard to resist the urge to bite and suck harder, but somehow he managed, if only because he knew that if he woke her, she'd more than likely alarm everyone else in the ratway. having to slaughter everyone down here just to keep his secret from falling out to the wrong person would draw too much attention, and he couldn't afford something like that tailing behind him when he was finally able to leave.
at the sound of vex's steps, allimir grew alarmed for a moment, until he heard the voice that matched them. a sinister grin pulled at his lips through the midst of his feeding, his own amusement at the fact that of all the people around the ratway, she was the one to catch him in the act. slowly, he pulled his mouth from the woman's neck and settled her back down to the bed roll, straightening after she was settled. turning to face the blonde woman, allimir's sinister grin still remained on his face, even as he wiped the little bit of blood that had escaped his lips from his feeding. licking it off his finger tip, he didn't bother hiding the fact that his eyes were taking her in, starting at first with her sword's point, and ending with his gaze coming to rest on hers. "is that how you greet all your business partners, vex?" he questioned, arching a brow. "she's not dead. just severely weak. i'm smarter than that- you should know, after all." he'd only been able to survive this long as a vampire because of that.
lifting his right hand, he grabbed the blade of her sword, uncaring when the steel cut into his skin. moving his arm, he tilted the sword away from him, stepping forward to take its place, leaving him inches from the imperial before him. "you smell like theft. up to no good again, hm?" carefully, he reached forward with his free hand, finding the fresh scar on her side through her gear. "aren't you supposed to be on some sort of.. bed rest, wasn't it?" he asked with a dark chuckle, his eyes piercing into her own. although his hand on her side still remained, his fingers were less probing than affectionate, which confused allimir more than it'd probably confuse her. nonetheless, they still held their firm roughness that his reputation held, and as his hand slowly started to slither from her waist, he let his fingers drag off the surface of her equipment almost invitingly.
it'd be a lie to say he didn't consider her his own vixen, but that was all part of the fun. what was the point in playing cat and mouse if the mouse actually gives up in the end? |

Even when the vampire looked up from his meal, the light behind him made him featureless as he began to approach her. Her face settled into a grim smile, preparing herself for the fight to come, while Vex trained her eyes on where she assumed their face would be. She was about to utter another warning when he spoke first. Recognition immediately flowed through her at the tones of the man's voice, but her only reaction was to narrow her eyes and get a firmer grip on her sword. "Allimir." she noted stiffly, fighting the urge to grimace at what she'd just bore witness to. Of course, blood wasn't a new sight to the thief, but actually consuming it the way Allimir did was perhaps one of the few things she couldn't stomach. "Only the ones who enjoy sucking the life out of others." Vex rolled her eyes, letting out a small scoff at Allimir's attitude. "And here I was, hoping you'd blow your cover so that someone could set you alight." She knew the insult would just glance over Allimir, and there was a slim to none chance of Allimir being caught. He was far too careful for that. "So you're not concerned about her catching it?" She stepped to the side, to get a better look at the unconscious woman, who lay motionless where the elf had set her down. "Maybe we should kill her. Just in case." Slowly, she tore her eyes away from the women's form, returning her eyes back to the danger that stood right in front of her.
She merely watched as Allimir shifted her sword out of the way, feeling it bite into his skin, before it came to rest useless by her side. She didn't bother to return it to where she had held it previously, as close as Allimir was, there wasn't room, and despite being a blood-sucking monster, Vex knew he didn't pose much of a threat to her. Bad blood between their respective societies wouldn't do any good. As he asked about the theft, her hand came to lay protectively over the bag at her hip. She was about to make some smart retort, the words at her lips, when he lay a hand on her side, exactly where she'd been cut. Her pursed lips parted for a moment in slight surprise, wanting to ask how he'd even found out about that, before thinking better of it. No doubt it would only amuse him more, and Vex was embarrassed enough about the Goldenglow fiasco as it was, without Allimir rubbing salt in the wound. "that was nothing." she said dismissively eager to drop the topic as soon as possible. the hand that had come to rest on her side distracted her momentarily. the fact she could feel his firm, but almost gentle touch on her side made her raise an eyebrow questioningly, but she didn't do anything other than meet his gaze.
of course, it didn't take long for allimir's hand to slide towards the various buckles on her light armor, and a smirk crossed her face briefly as she stepped out of reach, widening the gap between them so Vex could raise her sword once more. she let it hover over his chest, her sword arm strong enough to prevent it from dropping and cutting anything vital. "what are you doing here, allimir? you know mercer frey doesn't like it when you hide out down here." her eyes narrowed in thought for a moment, "actually, i wasn't aware you still took contracts. hiding out in base camp getting a bit dull for you, hm?" her voice had lowered to a teasing purr, mocking him in her easy way, but it was perhaps a situation she could sympathize with after spending so much time stuck in one place trying to recuperate. one could only take so much of the ragged flagon before going insane.

come see my cage built in my grave , this is sooo long. i hope it's okay! [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 390px; padding-top: 20px; padding-bottom: 20px;]"if it'll make you happy, you wont catch me stopping you." allimir responded almost plainly about killing the woman behind him. he knew that she hadn't contracted the disease, but she was nothing to him. if anything, it'd serve her right- touching a member of the dark brotherhood while they 'slept'? it wasn't an omen that brought any good, not from allimir's experience, anyway.
there was always a refreshing feeling whenever he happened to stumble upon vex's company. allimir was a fan of people, especially women, who had more snark in their personality than considered safe. it wasn't that he liked being poked fun at, or he personally enjoyed getting the wrong end of someone's smart-wit, but it kept allimir interested in the person at hand, regardless of who they were, or their race. it was always a good mental game, going back and forth with someone who could actually keep up with his sarcasm and dry humor. vex was one of the best people he'd come to discover that could return every verbal shot he made, and that was probably why he was so interested in the imperial woman.
the way she immediately shifted her hand to the bag that was so obviously out of place in vex's attire, allimir just grinned knowingly. it was rare that vex left the ragged flagon without a purpose that involved a job, and considering their line in work usually ended with them snatching some kind of heirloom or jewelled object, he'd easily put one and one together. but her surprise left her speechless about his assumption, and it made him grin even more at the tone she used when she spoke about the incident. it was obvious that her ego was severely still bruised from the slip up, and allimir couldn't really blame her for still feeling the embarrassment. he'd felt his shame for several seasons after his solitude mishap, but not that many people had caught wind of the incident other than his family back at the sanctuary. for vex, however.. people who weren't even remotely in dangerous professions had heard about the goldenglow situation, and her name was written all over it. "touchy.." he trailed off, but let the topic slip under the mat- for now.
"mercer can kiss my ass. as much as he likes to think he owns the ragged flaggon, and everything attached to it, i couldn't care less if he marched his almighty-self down here to personally tell me to get lost." her next string of words caused allimir's grin to falter a bit, but it only flashed momentarily in his black orbs before he returned to his usual self. at least, his usual front, anyway. a dark chuckle slowly escaped underneath his breath, feeling all-too easy underneath the point of her blade, no care in the world that she could more than likely dispatch him in a matter of seconds if she really wanted. their guilds held too much history, and relation, for her to be that stupid. plus, if she returned to the ragged flagon and told mercer that she had just killed the dark brotherhood's second in command in cold blood, there'd be a severe problem on the thieves' guild's hands. "i started taking contacts after my father died, three years ago. but i like to keep them a little more under the table than our usual. the less of skyrim's people know that i'm prowling with intent, the better." shifting, he leaned against the wall not too far from them, crossing his arms over his chest, allimir's black gaze never lifting from her own. "dull? slightly. after seeing the same faces for so long.." making a slight huff of frustration with the constant stuffy feeling he'd feel whenever he was in the sanctuary for longer than a few days, he shook his head to try and release his mind from the cramped remembrance.
"are you.. eager to get back?" he questioned after a moment of silence, slowly arching a brow in curiosity. "i promise not to bite if you stick around." a dark smile coiled over his lips, and he almost couldn't help the urge to lick his teeth in show, but somehow he'd managed to keep himself remotely collected. that, and a gesture like that probably would've scared the vixen off for good. he couldn't' have any of that. "what's in the bag, anyway?" he inquired with interest, though it wasn't genuine. it was more so just another question to keep her stationary, and speaking. if all went well, allimir wouldn't have to tough out the rest of his stay inside the ratway by himself.
after uncrossing his arms, allimir reached forward with his right to pull the bag open enough to see, but before his hand could touch the bag, the sound of stone and steel clashing together echoed throughout the ratway. instantly, allimir stiffened, and he withdrew his hand, withdrawing his hand in order to grasp his dagger's handle. lifting the jagged weapon from its sheath, his lips parted to tell vex to remain silent while he figured out who it'd come from, but footsteps that had been concealed before started to thump against the stone floor, not too far from them around the corner. narrowing his eyes, calculating approximately how far they were from turning into the area allimir had taken refugee, he slowly inhaled a deep breath and mentally centered himself.
as his eyes closed, he remained silent, slowly drowning everything out until the only sound he could hear was the rhythmic steps approaching them. he remained like that until the bandit was nearly rounding the corner, and in a flash, allimir's eyes sprang open, and his free hand caught vex's right shoulder. firmly, he pushed her to the side, sending her opposite shoulder and side into the wall he'd just been leaning against. using the momentum of shifting her out of harm's way, allimir's right hand was already in the process of gathering speed in a quick slash against the man's throat. he didn't have time to realize that he hadn't finished dispatching the rest of the people in the ratway, and allimir simply grinned wickedly at the stranger's horrified shock, helplessly attempting to stop the bleeding with his hands.
it wasn't long before the nord collapsed, and the rest of his blood started to spill from his wound. for a moment, as allimir took a refreshing breath, he did nothing but watch the pool of blood slowly grow larger and larger along the stone floor. when it started to creep up to his boots, he took a step back, not wanting to trail the blood back to where ever he'd be re-locating himself. nonchalantly, he leaned over to grab his gloves and hood before straightening and returning his attention to vex. "i'd apologize, about forcing you into the wall, but even if i was serious about it, i know you're too good to accept something like that from anyone." smirking, doing his own teasing right back to her, he acted as though he hadn't just slit a man's throat without letting him make the decision for himself to try and attack either of them. but allimir wasn't stupid enough to let anyone get the time to debate raising their weapon against him if he had a say in it.
"perhaps you can tell me about your latest accomplishment somewhere.. away from the smell of blood." |

she knew her move to cover the bag was a little defensive, but just because vex was rather well acquainted with the elf-vampire before her, did not mean in anyway she trusted him. she returned his smile with her usual bored stare, pretty much guessing exactly what he thought. her eyes narrowed at the word 'touchy' daring him to say something else about the botched job, but remarkably he didn't. still, vex knew it was only a matter of time, and if her temper had anything to say about it, she'd have a dagger to his neck before he could even mention goldenglow again.
letting out a noisy breath, it was clear vex thought allimir's speaking about mercer frey was just big talk. the leader of the thieves' guild could be mighty intimidating when he wanted to be, and although vex was used to his... manner, it seemed new recruits and others who didn't know him were rather susceptible to it. not that she doubted allimir at all, but the thought of the two of them facing off sounded rather amusing in her head. "maybe i'll suggest that to mercer next time i see him." vex mused, still entertained by the idea of it. she nodded slowly, listening as allimir explained his work, sympathy barely even registering within her as he mentioned the fact his father had died. "fair enough." she stated simply, her eyes widening as allimir decided to lean against the wall. even with her sword still pointed at his chest, he was so.. casual about it. the weird part was, she found that she admired it. a small grin parted vex's lips at allimir's frustration, if only because she knew exactly how he felt. it was strangely comforting to know she wasn't the only one who went a little mad when in confinement.
deciding that scaring allimir had lost it's entertainment value, vex lowered and sheathed her sword, peering back up at his curiously when he asked if she had to get back to the ragged flagon. "well, they're expecting me back there at some point this morning." vex's grin slowly turned wolfish, though she rolled her eyes at allimir's promise. "well, who am i to say no to that? but if i feel even a single fang against my skin, you're dead, allimir." letting out her own low laugh, vex crossed her arms over her chest, half-expecting allimir to rise to the challenge. she was being perfectly serious, though. although some might dream of eternal life regardless of the cost, becoming a monster was not something vex liked the sound of. and it would make her job a lot harder. she was trained to melt into the shadows, and she knew being a vampire would restrict her in so many ways. seeing allimir down in the ratways, waiting for nightfall, proved that. after all, escaping death was half of the excitement on the rare occasions vex was spotted by somebody. "that's none of your business." vex warned allimir, even as the elf reached forward for the bag. she would have stepped back, and out of reach, but his hand whipped back, and vex could see his body tense.
the change that came over the assassin was immediate, even as vex watched him. of course, she heard the footsteps too and instinctively, both of her hands had flown to the two swords at her hips. but either because his ears had picked up the foreign noises before hers, or he was just more attuned to such things, she was late to the draw, allimir's dagger already glinting at the prospect of a fight. she didn't need to be told to keep her mouth shut, and instead she merely watched, amusement easy to read in her eyes. she was well aware the approaching buffoon was nobody she knew from the guild; for one, their steps were far too heavy, and thieves had the good sense to keep their footfalls soundless, even when roaming around under riften, which was basically their territory. she wasn't sure what to expect from allimir as the steps came closer and closer, but she kept her eyes trained on him, prepared to watch the killer in action.
and vex certainly wasn't expecting to be thrown against the wall roughly. she felt the rock slam against her side. closing her eyes on impact, her eyebrows furrowing once she realized what allimir had done. she spun around in a rage just in time to see the bandit sputtering blood, falling to the ground as it drained onto the uneven floor. she merely stared at the body until allimir taking a step back caught her attention once more. thankfully, the bloodflow didn't seemed like it was going to reach where she was now standing close to the wall. "my hero." vex rolled her eyes, her voice lathered with sarcasm, even if she was grateful she wasn't the one to end the man's life, even if the bandit was just a lowlife who made his living by raiding and destroying the lives of others. "as long as you don't expect a simpering thank you, that's perfectly fine." as vex spoke, however, a smirk pulled at the edges of her lips, once again finding herself a little in awe of just how composed allimir was. but vex supposed when you were killing for a living, it lost it's novelty over time.
her eyes were pulled back down to the mess on the floor, fighting with her instincts to check the man's pockets. when allimir spoke, vex was only half paying attention, and she hummed in agreement after a few moments of internal debate with herself. "one moment..." she murmured, crouching down, her deft hands searching for something, anything of value. taking her sweet time both to irritate her companion and so that she didn't look over anything valuable, it didn't take long for vex to find what she was after. her search was rewarded with a few septims and a lockpick, all of which she quickly pocketed. taking care so as not to get her boots covered in blood, vex leaned over to grab the man's sword, and once she straightened up, she admired it in the light. "glass..." she mused, knowing tonilia would pay her handsomely for it, before her attention returned to allimir once more after glancing over the bandit's armor, and deciding the iron wasn't worth hauling it back to base. let the unconscious woman have it when she finally awoke. "right, let's go." carrying the sword in her right hand, vex stepped lightly around the body and the steadily growing pool of blood. "do all assassins make such a big mess when it comes to their victims? seems a bit counterproductive if you ask me." vex spoke over her shoulder, her customary smirk in place once more. once she was sure allimir was following her, vex set off.
having lived in the ratway for the past eight years of her life, vex was never disorientated when she wandered around the dark tunnels. she knew that heading to the right would lead them to the ragged flagon, whereas going forward would take them around the tavern, into the deeper area of the tunnel system which was where vex wanted to go. her footsteps were soundless and her movements lithe as she led the way in silence, knowing if allimir wasn't paying attention to where they were going, he'd be lost down here for a very long time. a wry smile crossed her face at the thought, but, of course, she'd have to show him the way out again. being lost in the ratways wasn't exactly something she'd wish on anyone. miraculously they arrived where vex had intended for them to end up without encountering anyone on the way. not even a single skeever had leaped out at them, which vex found a little odd. still, she wasn't complaining, and she presented the room with a half flourish.
the table that sat in the middle of the room was half rotten and covered in filth. a couple of tankards sat on the table, and an old bed roll sat in the corner. of the four chairs vex remembered sitting around the table, two remained. no doubt the other two had ended their lives as furniture to become firewood, if the ash on the floor was anything to go by. someone had been here recently judging by the bottles littered over the ground, but there was no sign of them now. taking it as an all clear, and resting a hand on her hip, vex turned to allimir. "it's not the ragged flagon, but i can hardly take you there, can i?" vex questioned, her face settling into a bemused expression as she tried to gauge his reaction.

come see my cage built in my grave , i hope this is a lot better than what it is in my head~ [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 390px; padding-top: 20px; padding-bottom: 20px;]if there was one thing that allimir had learned most about the thieves guild, it was that they were just as loyal to each other as the dark brotherhood's family. they had another's back, and trusted every word on a whim without hesitation. of course, to other people, it seemed foolish to trust someone so easily, and not ever utter a complaint or doubt. but not a lot of people understood what it meant to be involved with someone in such things; guilds were rare to come by that weren't mistaken for a bunch of bandits, so when you found one that you were accepted into, it was hard to turn your back on those people. but allimir had seen shades of mercer he didn't like. whether that was his gut instinct, or just a passing fancy, he wasn't aware, and he had no intentions on getting a solid feel for it, either. the only times he dealt with mercer was when he had to, and those times came rare. so when vex's body language made it more than obvious that she wasn't too pleased with hearing allimir's words, he simply smirked to himself. if his suspicions were right, then she'd come to a harsh reality like the rest of their guild. if not, he'd just continue to butt-heads with the man until someone crossed over a boundary that wasn't meant to be crossed.
"i'm sure he'd love to hear to my name come from your lips," he mused in response, playing off the saying a lot more suggestive than he knew she would've been able to keep a straight face through. but that was one of his ways of showing that he wasn't scared about her empty threats. there'd been plenty of times where allimir'd wanted to knock the leader down a few notiches, but because of his guild status, and their very good relation with delvin, he'd somehow managed to keep his cool long enough not to make a regretful move.
"don't flatter yourself, darling. if i wanted to taste you, i'd have done that a very long time ago." he was quick to respond, matching her wolfish grin easily. allimir knew he could never turn another being into a vampire, however. at least, not on purpose. he wasn't fond of being what he was, but that gave him more reason to prevent others from experiencing the same fate. to remain ageless for the rest of your immortal life, crave one of the most horrific bodily fluid to see outside of someone's veins, and to have to seclude yourself to darkness.. if he knew of a way to rid of his curse, than allimir most likely would've done anything to get rid of it. but, alas, he still had absolutely no idea about vampirism, apart from what he'd read in a few books, and from his own experiences. he didn't even know if there was a cure.
after he'd taken care of the intruder, allimir glanced towards vex at her sarcastic statement, and matched her eye roll, only in more of a mimicking sort of way. he knew she was fully capable of handling herself, at least, on most cases, but allimir wasn't one to hesitate when it came to being killed or killing another. he'd been a survivalist since birth, his father had done well to teach him right. the only thing he didn't like was having to kill without gaining a pouch of septims for it.
he'd been about to lead the way from the mess at his feet when vex made him hesitate for a moment. turning after he'd casually stepped over the body, he almost let out a low groan to what had her holding them up. "i guess you actually can't teach an old dog new tricks." he muttered under his breath, smirking afterwards as his attention returned to surveying the tunnels around them. he didn't have any care about the fact that he'd technically just killed him, so his gold and anything else of value should be his, but allimir had more than enough septims. that, and if he went home smelling like blood, he'd be rewarded with twenty-one questions, and dealing with that sort of constant bother was never a fun occasion.
allimir's eyebrows pinched together when she muttered the word glass under her breath, but he didn't bother asking. after a glance over his shoulder, he was sure she was talking about his sword anyway. he wasn't fond of swords to begin with, and selling things was never a convenience for allimir. most of the things that he looted could only be sold to people like tonilia, or merchants who didn't care about where the item came from, so having to travel a distance just to get rid of a few unwanted rare items never seemed worth it. but luckily, vex was announcing she was ready to go a few moments later, and after waiting for her to join him on that side of the body, allimir let her lead the way, despite the fact that he had a very good idea as to where she was taking him. he'd been in the ratway plenty of times, as much as he didn't generally like to admit it, and had learned the tunnels like the back of his hand. "if the job requires a mess," allimir responded simply, matching her smirk when she glanced over her shoulder, only his was much darker. "if you're not careful, that mouth'll let you know first hand." idly, he slipped his fingers over the handle of the dagger he'd used to kill the bandit, but his hand fell back to his side to dangle in the midst of his footsteps not too long after touching the hilt. he wasn't sure if he could ever raise a blade to vex, promised fortune or not.
like allimir generally did in these situations, he let his leader assume that he was helpless on his own. yes, it was true whenever allimir was seen in riften's ratway that he was generally near the entrance, but that was because he wanted to be able to leave as soon as he could. he doubted vex had any idea that he'd roamed these filthy corridors countless times, and to be honest, he wasn't that interested in correcting that assumption. the less she knew, the better for him. so when she finished their tour in the tavern of the ratway, an area he used to be welcome in when he knew three of the earlier recruits of the thieves guild. they'd taken over the tavern for a small period of time, claiming it their's to do whatever with. it'd been quite some time since he'd seen those fools' faces, though, and he doubted they'd impressed mercer frey enough to actually gain entry into the thieves guild. nonetheless, he glanced around the room with slight caution, making sure no one was squatting within its protected walls. when he was satisfied, he relaxed better, and turned his attention back to the imperial he'd silently followed.
"not unless you feel like explaining to mercer, and everyone else, why you're with me." he mused back with a grin, walking over to the table. setting his gloves and his hood down onto the table's surface, he eyed the bag with curiosity, slowly turning his gaze back to the vixen not even five feet from him. "well?" he asked, arching a brow. "i promise to keep my hands to myself. and if i don't," he trailed off, leaning his weight a bit more on the table closer to her, his eyes at first glued to her own, but they didn't remain there. his dark orbs started to take in her facial features from this far away, and a soft smirk started to pull at the right corner of his lips in a lopsided gesture. when his eyes finally came to focus back on her own, he didn't bother taking a step back to give her a bit more personal space. instead, he leaned in a bit more, testing her self control on her personal space. "i give you permission to try and stop me." |

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#a7cacc; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px;]YOU'VE DONE SOME UGLY THINGS NOW IT'S TOO LATE TO TAKE THEM BACK hearing the suggestive tone of allimir's voice, vex fought to keep a straight face, but to no avail. finally a smirk crept along her lips, and she shook her head slowly. "i'm sure he would." she shot back. "about as pleased to see you himself, probably."
vex's eyebrows furrowed at the pet name, but all the same, it was a relief to hear the words from allimir's lips. "i'm not sure whether to be flattered or offended, al." she retorted, though it was clear from her tone of voice she was merely jesting. "i'd have to taste better than her, that's for sure." gesturing over her shoulder behind her at the woman he'd left unconscious, a wry smile formed on vex's face. "but i guess you'll never know, right?" her teasing hid the truth, of course. she took pity on allimir for the simple reason his life had become a walking nightmare. she had never really delved into all the details of the affliction with allimir, and didn't exactly want to either, but from what she understood, it wasn't something to be enviable of. vex respected the assassin, but sympathy was certainly one of the many mixed feelings she felt towards him. but she'd have to be dying before she admitted that to him. she enjoyed their banter far too much to scare him off with the admission vex felt sorry for him. that was weak, and much too distasteful for vex's liking.
her smile widened at allimir's retort, but as she had turned to see where she was going, and to ensure she didn't put her boots in anything... unsavory, hers was hidden. at least until she spoke again. "oh, i very much doubt that." she answered a moment or two later, confidence radiating from her tone of voice. somehow she knew allimir wouldn't raise a blade to her throat without good reason, and certainly not that day. he'd practically asked her if she minded staying with him while he was hiding out down here anyway. and after all, vex rather liked living, and if anyone tried to end her life prematurely, she'd fight hard to stop them.
she watched allimir move past her, dumping his things on the table, and turning his eyes back to the bag at her hip. "mm, not really. you know what they're like." as entertaining as it would be, vex didn't want to return to the flagon with allimir in tow. it would only cause her fellow guild members to ask questions, and vex didn't feel like answering to any of them, especially mercer. she knew that of all people, he wouldn't be happy to see the vampire associating with one of his best thieves.
her eyes watched allimir as he leaned towards her, her eyebrows raising suspiciously as he moved closer to her, although she didn't back away. "permission? since when have i needed your permission?" her voice was little more than a purr, but it still carried her usual aggression. "at times, i make the active decision not to stop you." her lips pulled into a smirk, tempted to do anything that would knock allimir down a peg after she gave him what was basically a compliment. but she did nothing, except run her eyes over his face once more, before doing anything more.
slowly, so as not to startle him, vex raised a gloved hand to his chin, wiping off a speck of blood that he had neglected to wipe off. with her thumb, she attempted to rid him of it, thankful that it seemed to have dried and flaked off easily. "messy..." she murmured, when the stubborn drop finally wiped away. she tried not to wonder whether or not it belonged to the woman or the bandit, both of whom allimir had killed so efficiently. she made sure there wasn't anymore splatter on his face before lowering her hand, only to meet his gaze. it was a little unnerving, looking into those black, inhuman eyes, but it was the same reason she couldn't look away. she felt trapped, almost helpless, and after a few moments, it was almost stifling, no doubt some effect of his vampirism. feeling unsettled and a little vulnerable was not something vex was used to, and as such, it caught her a little unaware. slowly she cleared her throat and tore her gaze elsewhere, finally settling on one of the abandoned bottles that lay on the other end of the table.
her hand reached for the bottle, as she picked it up, vex realized it contained some kind of liquid, rippling within as she moved it. curious as to what it could be, vex picked it up, working off the seal to raise it to her nose. knowing the seedy nature of the ratway's inhabitants, it could be anything. she inhaled the scent, and as soon as the bitter aroma hit her nose, vex smiled. there was no mistaking that smell, no matter how low quality it was. "feel like ale?" she questioned him, holding the bottle out to him. "if you prefer, i can pour it into one of the mugs for you." she wasn't serious; the tankards had to be filthier than the bottle itself, but she wasn't even sure if allimir would want any. if he didn't, that was fine. the blonde was perfectly happy with drinking it herself.
while she waited for a response, her eyes narrowed in thought. "you never did tell me why you were here. someone finally put a price on my head?" she let out a laugh at her own joke, her eyes never leaving allimir's face as she lowered herself into one of the chairs at the table. it was a ridiculous statement. if someone had wanted vex dead, she would know about it, and she certainly wouldn't be willing to share a drink with the assassin sent to kill her.

come see my cage built in my grave , sorry this took foreverrr! btw, i love these two. ksdhfsa. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 390px; padding-top: 20px; padding-bottom: 20px;]"so you admittedly enjoy how i can push your buttons, then?" allimir questioned, arching a brow, at her comment about sometimes holding herself back whenever he tried to push her to her limits. of course, he wasn't saying that for the simple fact that he wanted to make it seem like he had some sort of hold over her, no. he had said that because he was curious if she'd slip up and lead on that yes, she didn't mind his suggestive themes, and how at times he got maybe a little too personal with the imperial before him. admitting to something like that, even a tiny little sliver, would give him the satisfaction that he was looking for, and guaranteed, he'd have a smirk plastered on his lips the entire trip back to the sanctuary. not because he'd take it to heart, of course, but because he'd been able to work his way underneath vex's skin- even a little. and allimir would be severely lying if he said he wasn't remotely interested in the thief in that kind of way.
what she did next completely took him by surprise. he hadn't expected her to narrow her eyes, and ever so subtly, raise her hand to his chin. slowly, his own eyes narrowed, unsure as to her motives behind the simple touch. allimir's lips almost parted in question, but when he felt her thumb start to trail over a specific area on his skin, he looked even more confused, but at the same time, his hard-pressed face remained. no one had ever extended their hand to his face in such a way, for any reason, and it.. made his chest almost hurt. he held his breath after that, focusing on her eyes as her thumb got rid of the speck of blood. he was at a loss for words, and a loss for actions. the last time that allimir had froze the way he was now, was his first contract in solitude. he mucked it up rather badly, and was transferred from taking contracts to training the dark brotherhood members that did because of it.
it was a good thing that vex had drifted her gaze, and picked up an old bottle of ale when she had, stopping allimir instantly in his tracks. he'd been close to leaning forward, and closing the small space between them for good, but her movements instantly made him back-peddle, deciding it was a bad idea. instead, while she inspected the bottle, allimir slowly let the breath he'd been holding out, shifting to actually lean against the table now. crossing his arms over his chest, allimir closed his eyes to try and clear his head, only opening his eyelids when she asked if he'd like some. eyeing the bottle, a little surprised that there was anything left in it to begin with, he was a bit delayed in shrugging his shoulders with an agreeing response, giving vex time to try and made him feel sillier, no doubt. shaking his head, allimir didn't even bother glancing towards any of the chipped, and dented tankards, already knowing their state for countless uses, and their surroundings building up over the cold mugs.
about to answer that he'd rather test just the spout of the ale's bottle, rather than a filling a tankard to drink, he stopped when she asked about his business. slowly, he glanced over towards her, arching a brow. "if there was a bounty on your head, and i happened to be the one holding the contract, i'd probably have a lot more information about your latest thievery, because i would've carried it out there." a small smirk took hold of the side of his lips as he looked at her, being completely honest in his words. "it would've looked either like an accident, or you simply pushed too far, and someone ganked you for stealing something with a lot of trouble tied to it." slowly, his gaze lowered towards the bag that she still hadn't told him anything about. smirking, he tilted his head, almost like he was giving her a hint. "you should now by now; eye for an eye." there was no way he was going to start discussing his business details if she was going to withhold her own.
slowly, he uncrossed his arms and leaned his left hand on the table to support his weight as he reached over to where she was now sitting, taking the ale from her politely. lifting it up to his lips, he swallowed a mouthful before handing it back to her, wiping his mouth off with the back of his hand as soon as it was free again. the small peg of dirt was there, but the ale still did the trick- plus, dirt was a lot better than what it could've been, so he didn't bother uttering a complaint.
"well? if you're so interested, ladies first. and don't spare the details." |

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#a7cacc; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px;]YOU'VE DONE SOME UGLY THINGS NOW IT'S TOO LATE TO TAKE THEM BACK "did i say that?" vex asked, her tone unusually innocent. it was pretty much the reaction she had been expecting from the elf, and she could sense how satisfied her response would make him. she wanted to cut him down, pull the ground out from under his feet and leave him questioning even more, but she stopped herself. that was a little too cruel for her liking, and no matter what she said, the imperial knew she'd be looking at allimir's smug little smile until he left to return to the dark brotherhood. "i wouldn't say i enjoy it, per se," she answered slowly, her eyes watching him carefully for his reaction. "more that sometimes, i'm not quite as riled as i appear to be."
even vex was surprised by the tenderness of her actions. she didn't know what thoughts were floating through allimir's head, nor did she particularly want to. she'd raised her hand without thinking, and now that she had, and the blood speck was gone, vex began to regret it. being gentle was a weakness and although she didn't mind being so close to him, being weak was unforgivable.
vex listened to allimir speak with interest. as bad as it sounded, listening to how he'd arrange her death was a little fascinating. "very interesting." she spoke after he finished. "how do i know you're not lying? you could know exactly what's in my bag, exactly where i was, and knew i'd be returning through the ratway this morning." it was a little paranoid to think along those lines, but it was in vex's very nature to be mistrustful. a similar thought had run through her head upon first seeing the assassin earlier. but she knew her suspicions were false. if he had been sent to kill her, vex would already be dead. "and you forget one thing," she added, returning his smirk with one of her own. "i don't fail jobs. the guild would smell a rat instantly." it was true, even with her blunder of goldenglow, vex had the best track record in the guild. it wasn't something she advertised, or tried not to, but it was hard to ignore something so blatantly obvious. she was the best the guild had, and were she to fail a job, something would have to be very, very wrong.
"i wouldn't call myself a lady, but if you insist." vex leaned back on her chair, taking the bottle of ale with her. if allimir wanted any more, he'd have to reach for it. she took a swig, the bitter taste washing over her tongue, mingled with a hint of dust and dirt from the age of the liquid. she smacked her lips appreciatively all the same, wiping her mouth gently with the back of her hand. ale was ale, and although it didn't even begin to compare to what vekel might serve in the ragged flagon, it was good enough for vex.
"now, where to begin?" she spent a moment or two in silence, not sure how much to tell him. she was hoping allimir would share his reasons for being in riften without wanting anything from her. after all, this was her territory, she had the right to ask questions. but considering it was only allimir, vex supposed she could make an exception. "well, this is my first job since.." her voice faltered, and vex cleared her throat, trying to pass it off as nothing more than the ale getting caught in her throat. "since goldenglow. it was nothing, just a simple burglary, really. one of the merchants in town spotted this," she tapped the bag, her eyes lowering to it almost hungrily, "in one of his rivals houses. he seemed to think it was lucky, or worth a fair few septims. he wants it for himself apparently. whether he sells it or not is his decision." she shrugged again, straightening up and putting the bottle of ale down on the table. "want to see it?" vex smiled, and for a moment, she looked far younger than she was. gold, and the prospect of success, always did that to her. lifting the bag over her head, she rested it on the table, opening it and revealing the candelabra inside.
it was beautiful, even by vex's standards, and she had seen her fair share of beautiful objects. it was real gold, beautifully kept and shiny. set in the candelabra were blood red rubies, vex's favorite gemstone by far. she stared at it in wonder for far too long, her eyes alight with the glory of success. "isn't it wonderful?" she asked aloud, though she didn't particularly care what allimir thought. finally she raised her eyes to allimir's again, a genuine grin on her face. "does that sate your curiosity?" she wrapped up the candelabra, taking care to place it in the bag. she was perhaps too over protective of it, but instead of slinging the bag over her head again, she laid it to rest on the table beside her. if allimir even so much as looked at it, he'd have a blade to his throat before he could even think about swiping it from under her nose.
"your turn." she took the bottle of ale in hand again, though she remained leaning forward on the table. vex took a sip, before returning it to the table. "and don't feed me some line about enjoying my company so much you had to stop by and say hello." she smirked at him, assuming that some similar smart little line was on the verge of escaping his lips. and if not, well, it was always fun to tease him. "and don't spare the details." her tone was a perfect echo of his as her eyes watched him expectantly, finally about to hear the story of what exactly allimir was doing in riften.

come see my cage built in my grave , hope this is okaaaay. i'm still kinda drunk, so. hahhhhh. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 390px; padding-top: 20px; padding-bottom: 20px;]"i find that a little hard to believe, vex," he mused out loud, arching a brow. "you're always riled up when i'm around."
chuckling darkly under his breath, allimir shrugged his shoulders, giving vex the benefit of the doubt. for a moment, at least. "i guess you wont know an assassin's true intentions until he's got you in a tight spot that works in his advantage, hm?" rolling his eyes at her confidence, allimir waved it off with a hand, uncaring if he offended her, or anything remotely close to that. "i think that scar on your side has a lot to speak for. It wouldn't be that hard to take someone like you down, if you just know the right place to touch." leaning back in his chair, he kicked his feet up onto the table, knocking some of the dust loose from the surface. "and, you seem to forget that we're very good at pinning our murders on other people. the thieves guild would never come after the dark brotherhood on just mere suspicion; mercer's got a thick skull, but i don't think it's that thick." not that allimir could ever actually carry out an operation like that, however. taking someone's life from the thieves guild, even just a lower recruit, wouldn't seem right.
as vex started to explain her job, and the item that she had to use her expert fingers for, allimir listened and watched intently. when she almost eagerly asked if he wanted to see it, a smirk pulled at the corners of allimir's lips instantly. she was happier than a poor child with a fresh sweet roll. he nodded his head anymore, letting her know that he'd love to dive into her realm of excitement and check it out. as he waited for her to pull it from the bag, he reached over to grab the bottle of ale, almost having to pull his legs off the table in order to reach it, but he just barely managed. tilting it back to his lips to take a few mouthfuls, he slowly set it back down, his attention turning to the jewelled candelabra. his eyebrows lifted at the sight, and after tilting his head, allimir slowly nodded his head in agreement. it was very wonderful-looking. more than a few pretty septims worth, that was for sure.
"i suppose.. for now." smirking, he grabbed the bottle, pulling it up to his lips for another mouthful before he knew he'd have to return the favour. although allimir was the kind of person he was, and he associated himself in things that normally made people scowl, but he still kept his word. if allimir said he would do something, nine times out of ten, he couldn't even begin to think about going back on it. luckily for vex, even wanting to be a jerk couldn't overpower that.
"you shouldn't be so cocky, you know," he chuckled, pulling his legs down so he could lean more into the table, his eyes holding her own in a steady gaze. "i'd never spend time in the ratways, waiting for you to come keep me company." smirking, although it was more dark this time, he slowly leaned back into his chair, sighing blissfully as he relaxed. "i wasn't here for myself, really- more so the family. i had to pick up a payment, and that old bastard's more crazy than sheogorath. i didn't expect to make it back to the sanctuary before sunrise, but i would've at least been out of the city when it came up." gesturing around him, allimir's expression made it clear as to how that had turned out. "to be fair, he did give me a sum of the coin. too bad it wasn't enough compensation for the day of my life i'll never be given back."
reaching for the bottle, he shrugged his shoulders at her with a bit of a smirk. taking a swig, he wiped off his lips before setting the bottle back down. "i hope i didn't disappoint you with how unexciting my life's been in the past day or so. it's not as meaningful as a jewelled candelabra." idly, his eyes cast over to the bag again, but they didn't linger for long. it was apparent how uneasy vex might get if she thought he was having thoughts about attempting to snatch it from under her nose. he'd never do something like that, not even to mercer, but just because he wouldn't doesn't mean people don't get impressions. and, that was definitely something allimir wanted to keep from vex's train of thought- he actually wanted her to be able to trust him, even if they weren't very trust-able members of society.
"so, when are they going to start sending you on actual jobs, anyway?" allimir was quick to change the topic from himself, eyeing her with an arched eyebrow. he was clearly trying to get a rise out of her. "i mean, a jewelled candelabra is definitely worth something, but i mean.. isn't that something mercer sends his dogs out to take care of? the pups that're still trying to earn their collars?" narrowing his eyes, he leaned on his elbows, his voice lowering to a hungry growled whisper. "if you were under my command, i wouldn't be wasting your talent with meaningless wastes of time, goldenglow incident or not." |

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#a7cacc; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px;]YOU'VE DONE SOME UGLY THINGS NOW IT'S TOO LATE TO TAKE THEM BACK "what, like now?" vex said, only for the smirk to be wiped off her face as allimir again mentioned the scar on her side. "one failed job out of many," vex murmured defiantly, her hand briefly going to her side. she was still mystified as to how he knew where she'd been cut, the memory of allimir laying his hand on the exact spot where the scar was only moments ago fresh in her mind. she certainly hadn't told him, and although the fact she'd botched the job was common knowledge, vex was sure her injuries were not. she was insulted, incredibly so, but instead of getting mad like she would have on any other topic, vex just glared at him. her failure was something she was still coming to grips with, the biggest blow her ego had ever had to deal with. allimir's chuckling and confidence wasn't helping. in short, vex was a little hurt, not that she'd want /that/ to be common knowledge. "you never know," vex commented finally. "mercer's never been the brotherhood's biggest fan." still, vex was well aware that he knew better than to declare war on them. mercer wasn't that stupid.
vex raised an eyebrow as allimir told her she shouldn't be so arrogant. "and why not? i've heard it's part of my charm." she met his gaze, a smile tugging at the edge of her lips, though it dissolved as she focused on the elf telling her why he was here in riften. gods knew she had asked enough to actually pay attention once he began telling her. she had to admit, it was far duller than she'd been expecting, but such was life. "lucky i showed up when i did, then. i'd hate for you to be have been bored all day." vex knew from personal experience the ratway didn't hold much in the way of entertainment, even in the flagon where you were promise decent company at least some of the time. "but why didn't you just make him pay all of it? surely you have ways of convincing him to." it seemed almost mad in vex's mind to travel so far, only to leave with half of what you came for. but that was allimir's prerogative. if he wanted to waste his time travelling to and fro between riften and wherever the sanctuary might be, that was his decision.
"i've heard worse. let's leave it at that." vex stated in response to allimir hoping she wasn't disappointed. she was, slightly, but considering she'd asked after the information more than once, it seemed inappropriate to point out her happenings were far more interesting. to her, at least. she supposed payment for his services held more appeal for allimir than it ever would for vex.
vex listened to allimir as he posed the question about taking real jobs, certain she had heard him wrong at first. but as he continued to speak, she realized he was seriously bringing this up with her yet again. her eyes narrowed dangerously, anger welling up within her as her muscles tensed and she bristled at the idea of him mocking her. she wasn't going to be insulted like this and not do anything, regardless of who and what allimir was. "i'm not under your command, so what you'd do is irrelevant." she spat back at him, her voice as low as his, but far more poisonous. she wanted to hit something, no, hit allimir, or at least raise a blade just to make him regret it, but no doubt he'd only laugh in her face. and the only thing within reach was the bottle of ale. while throwing it against the wall was tempting, vex picked it up and raised it to her lips, drinking mouthful after mouthful instead, until only a little remained at the bottom of the bottle. all the while, she was thinking about how well allimir would cope if he'd been sliced open and had to crawl all his way back to the ragged flagon, as vex had done.
finally, she put the bottle down, her anger dissipated slightly, even if she still wanted to wipe allimir's stupid smirk of his face forcefully. "if you must know, i gave the job to myself." vex started, unsure why she was disclosing such information, but she was doing it nevertheless. "i needed something... easy, and after being out of action for so long, this seemed perfect." she shook her head slowly, her eyes trained on the far wall to avoid looking at allimir himself. it sounded pathetic to her own ears, but it was the truth. after her blunder, vex had needed to prove to herself that she was just as good as she had been upon first arriving at the guild, if not better. and while stealing the candelabra wasn't exactly the most challenging of jobs, but it had helped in some small way. she didn't feel quite so useless anymore. "not that i'd expect you to understand." she eyed him carefully, before dropping her gaze to the bottle she still held in her two gloved hands. as much as she hated to admit it, the elf was right. vex was better than this. but she didn't want to hear that from him, of all people.

KNOCK KNOCK, LET ME IN LET ME BE YOUR SECRET SIN tagged vex, with 1053 words, wearing this. one of these days, he is going to get cloaked upside the face by her~ [STYLE=background-color:#191919; width:325px; height: 350px; overflow: auto; font-family:Arial; color:#aaaaaa; text-align:justify; text-transform:lowercase; font-size:10px; opacity: .8; padding: 10 10 10 10px;]there were some visits to the ratway that were short-lived for allimir, daylight or not. sometimes the morons camping within the filth-ridden sewers were no better than the skeevers themselves. and even though allimir had a business in killing, he didn't like to have to get his hands dirty just for the simple fact that some idiot couldn't keep his mouth properly closed. plus, leaving a string of bodies lined from wall to wall after a visit to riften wouldn't put him on any better terms with mercer frey. for the sake of astrid's sanity alone, allimir knew it was still best to tip-toe around the guild master, despite the fact that allimir personally wasn't afraid of him.
"he's a frequent contact and, most cases, he's carting around a very heavy purse that he's more than happy to piss away whenever he sees this emblem," allimir explained, casually gesturing towards the palm on his chest. "old fool." of course, allimir knew he didn't have to explain himself to someone like vex, especially when it was about his family's business, but he didn't see any harm in it. he hadn't given out any names, and there were countless old men in riften who had a habit of earning more than their fair share of septims. however, even if his job had been important, he would've ended up sharing it, simply because he'd given his word. fair was fair, after all.
"feisty, as always," he purred in a bit of a dark, sultry voice when she was quick to spit his words back at him. it brought him amusement, of course, his goal achieved. in the midst of his idea to piss her off, she always started to reveal a bit more of herself in the process. it hadn't been on allimir's mind, but now that she was starting to go into detail, he wasn't about to find himself stopping her any time soon. as much as he appeared uninterested in people around him, vex was definitely a woman who'd caught his eye, and kept that interest, even when apart. learning more about her, and who she was as a person, didn't seem like much of a waste of time to the vampire. not right now, anyway.
what really made his smirk start to vanish wasn't the fact that she'd shared a bit of herself with him; he saw a little bit of himself in her small story. his first job, screwing it up, and nearly getting himself killed. his father had been furious, mainly out of concern; his mother had been a whore, who'd abandoned them soon after allimir's birth, and his father couldn't stand the idea of losing his only accomplishment outside of sanctuary's walls. because of the mishap, he'd been demoted from assassin, to trainer, and he helped organize things whenever no one needed the extra pair of hands to limber up. it took him several years, up until his father was captured, to get back into the field. unlike vex, however, that hadn't been an easy blow-over. it'd landed him getting captured himself, and then his immortal fate attached to it.
blinking, realizing he'd been staring off over vex's right shoulder at nothing but dusty cobwebs and cold stone, he cleared his throat and tried to straighten up in his chair a bit uncharacteristically. scratching the back of his head, allimir slowly returned his gaze to vex in a rather slow manner, trying to find something to say that didn't make her question his pause. "well. nothing wrong with being a little cautious after something.. like that." his eyes fluttered down to where he imagined the scar to be, despite the fact that he couldn't see all that much of her side at the angle he was. about to say something else, he was abruptly cut off from an annoyed voice, echoing throughout the hall.
"oi! get the hell away from me, yah stupid bird! how'd you get'n here?"
allimir's eyes flickered towards the door, and before anything could be said, allimir raised his hand to his mouth, cupping his index and thumb inside the corners of his lips. whistling sharply, the raven that had snuck into the ratway through one of the open sewers, caw'd in response, following the noise without hesitation, leaving whatever lowlife montha had started to disturb alone. in seconds, the raven came barrelling through the entrance, circling around in order to prevent herself from smacking into a wall, until she came to settle down on allimir's right shoulder. her blood red eyes bore into vex, occasionally blinking to wet them, but they remained fastened on the thief, clearly on guard.
the bosmer paid no mind to the bird, raising his left hand to delicately stroke her head, before lowering his hand to his belt to pull out a few hardened roll crumbs. letting them tumble into the palm of his hand he raised them to the table, making sure he had her attention before dropping them. after a moment of obvious contemplation on montha's end, she slowly hovered her way down to the table between her master and vex, keeping her back towards allimir as she started to dig in.
"you've met montha before, haven't you?" he asked, arching a brow, honestly not recalling if she'd ever made an appearance around vex before. he allowed her to travel as she pleased, but when he needed her, she came to his whistle without pause. some of it was his natural affliction with animals, other parts being the fact that he had raised and trained her himself. "she's pissed mercer off quite a few times.. she's no longer allowed in the cistern anymore." his tone seemed to dimmer for a moment, but soon enough, he'd gotten over it. he could understand why mercer wouldn't want her there. but that didn't mean allimir had to enjoy it.
inhaling deeply, he reached forward, grabbing the bottle from the table. raising it, seeing exactly how much she'd left, he made a bit of a face. "it's not nice to offer to share something, and then hog it all to yourself, you know." lowering the bottle, he tossed vex a bit of a suggestive grin. "are you trying to get yourself tipsy, love?"

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#a7cacc; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px;]YOU'VE DONE SOME UGLY THINGS NOW IT'S TOO LATE TO TAKE THEM BACK ”feisty, as always..”
Allimir’s tone alerted Vex to the fact she had played right into his hands, which she had known, but had been powerless to stop. She couldn’t help that he got under her skin a lot more than she let on, and her already short fuse didn’t help any. Vex had always had a temper, but Allimir seemed to play on that, making her more volatile than she already was. He knew exactly what buttons to press when it came to her, and although it irked Vex to no end, she still put up with his company. If it had been anyone else, she’d have likely hit them and made her way back to the Flagon, but she still remained sitting across from him. What that meant, Vex had no idea, but she knew some part of her wanted to stay.
She continued to fume in silence, until she realized there was actual silence. No smart quips from Allimir, and when her gaze rose back to his face, he seemed deep in thought, staring off into the far corner of the room. She didn’t speak, but she watched him with eyes narrowed for a time before losing interest. Whatever he was thinking about, Allimir seemed to be very far away from the dingy room that they were currently sitting him. Leaving him to his thoughts, Vex lazily propped her head up with her elbow on the table, her eyes following the whorls and grains of the wooden table.
When he finally spoke, Vex’s eyes drifted up off the table to rest on his face. Her eyes narrowed instinctually, unsure whether this understanding Allimir was better or worse than the one who had previously prodded fun at her failure. Letting it lie for the time being, Vex saw his eyes flick down to her side, and she shifted slightly, turning her injured side away from him. Her scar wasn’t exactly a topic she’d broached with anybody, but it was there, all the same. Even though it had healed, Vex somehow felt it was still vulnerable. So she was grateful for the distraction when she heard a voice shouting about a bird.
She watched Allimir raise his fingers to his lips, whistling, and moments later, a large bird entered the room. It wasn’t until the bird was settled on his shoulder that the thief realized it was a raven, and a rather large one at that. She felt its eyes on her, and Vex stared back. There was something about birds she wasn’t particularly fond of, but she had to admit that this raven was a particularly fine creature. Her eyes followed it as the raven’s attention drifted from her down to the crumbs Allimir offered her. As it hopped down to the table, picking at the food, Vex’s gaze drifted back to Allimir, only to be asked if she had met the raven before.
“I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure.” Vex eyed the raven suspiciously. She vaguely recalled Mercer complaining about Montha once or twice. Or to put it specifically, “that Bosmer assassin and his bloody bird”. However, all the times the raven had been loose in the Cistern, Vex must’ve been absent. What a shame… The way Mercer went on about the raven when someone brought it up led Vex to believe it must have been a rather entertaining sight to see. Just imagining Mercer running around after the bird almost made her crack a smile. Almost. “I bet.” Vex answered shortly, watching the bird as it continued to pick its way across the table. “Montha..” she repeated, committing the name to memory. Who knew when it might come in handy?
Vex rolled her eyes as Allimir questioned her niceness. Had Vex ever claimed to be nice? She didn’t think so, yet she thought he’d prefer her drinking the majority of the ale to causing him harm. That was her form of nice. “I’ll buy you another one some time. Something better than that filth,” she spoke dismissively, not sure when she’d ever be able to. Vex didn’t think they’d frequent an inn together anytime soon, and although the Ragged Flagon was a mere half hour’s walk away, she’d already reasoned that bringing Allimir was probably not the best idea. But if the occasion should arise, and Allimir somehow remembered her words, Vex would do so. She was a woman of her word, and she did have a nasty suspicion Allimir wasn’t likely to forget it. She glared at him after he posed the question, wondering for a moment how he’d look with a black eye to keep her tongue in check. “That wasn’t my intent, no,” she answered finally, her voice slow and even. “But it’d probably make putting up with you a lot easier, love.” Despite herself, the hint of a smirk tugged at the edges of her lips, but before returning his grin, Vex cleared her throat, her face returning to its usual bored mask.
She was at a loss for words for a moment or two. No matter where conversation led, it always seemed to circle back to work, which Vex didn’t particularly feel like talking about. “Feel like sparring?” she asked offhandedly. It had been a long time since she’d had any decent competition, and now that she’d asked the question, Vex liked the idea more and more. It’d certainly help with her pent up anger, Vex was sure of it. “It’s no trouble if you don’t want to. I won’t tell anyone you’re afraid I’ll beat you.” Her voice dropped to a purr as she leaned over the table, careful not to get in the way of the raven.

KNOCK KNOCK, LET ME IN LET ME BE YOUR SECRET SIN tagged vex, with 591 words, wearing this. s'getting gooooood c; [STYLE=background-color:#191919; width:325px; height: 350px; overflow: auto; font-family:Arial; color:#aaaaaa; text-align:justify; text-transform:lowercase; font-size:10px; opacity: .8; padding: 10 10 10 10px;]"now now, vex," allimir purred, arching a brow at her mockery. it was more amusing than anything, but allimir figured she'd have guessed that'd be his response. "you start to make my second heart throb when you get all sassy, and demeaning." obviously he was kidding- slightly. she did kind of make his second heart throb when she started getting crude. "but, seriously. buy me something better than that filth?" allimir questioned in a joking tone, a chuckle slipping out afterwards. the idea of vex taking him out for a drink almost put a stitch in his side. women didn't take allimir out for a tankard, or a bottle of ale. allimir took women out, whenever he so chose to actually wine and dine one, which didn't happen very often. especially not when most of his dates generally became his meals anyway. "don't expect me not to remember, as embarrassing as it'd be on my end. but i think i can suck up my pride enough to make an appearance. although.." trailing off for a moment, he gave vex a very mischief-filled grin. "not showing for you would make for an interesting encounter afterwards. i'd imagine you're one of those girls who gets all huffy when their 'very rare' dates decides to ditch out on them- since, you'd be the one usually ditching men, correct?" naturally, he wasn't expecting an honest answer. just more gasoline for the fire.
the idea of sparring was interesting. out of place, and a little random, but allimir wasn't about to question where the origin of the idea had come from. he was slow to respond, however, the idea still being worked over in his head. he hadn't sparred in a while; his training hadn't been one on one lately with any of the new recruits for the dark brotherhood, just weapons and pathetic straw dummies. so when she started to mock his ego, he instantly straightened in his chair a bit more, arching a brow at her. "afraid of a thief? senior member of the guild or not, you're very scary, vex. not in a horrifying way, at least." grabbing his dagger, he tossed it onto the table, slightly starting montha, but she quickly went back to pecking at the crumbs, like she hadn't been disturbed in the first place. with nothing left to disarm himself from, his hood and gloves still remaining off and on the table, allimir paused to ask a question.
"what happens if i win, hm?" standing, he grabbed a broken chair and started to move it out of the way, giving them more space. he had no idea what vex was like, not up close and personal in a fight, but he was looking forward to finding out. luckily, the tables and chairs already located within the tavern were already well worn and rotting, so most of them had their own destructive quirks about them. adding a few more to that list wouldn't hurt anyone's day. "i say that drink you owe me, and a night in an inn. i'll even feed beforehand, so you'll have nothing to worry about." a dark grin coiled over his lips as he stretched his left arm over to the right side of his body, eyes never leaving her. "unless.. you're scared that you'll actually enjoy it, of course." his grin widened as he finished off his words, raising his fists to signal that he was prepared for whatever she wanted to throw at him; at least, he hoped he was prepared.

[style=width: 370px; background-color:#a7cacc; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; padding: 15px;]YOU'VE DONE SOME UGLY THINGS NOW IT'S TOO LATE TO TAKE THEM BACK “That’s none of your business, Allimir.” Vex snapped back at the elf’s making assumptions about her love life. She didn’t want him to know her rare dates were actually more like nonexistent dates. With being promoted to senior member of the thieves guild and her recent recuperation stint, there simply hadn’t been time to head to an inn to share a drink. And even so, the men who were usually interested in Vex were not the type she was likely to enjoy spending an evening with. But Vex wasn’t going to discuss her love life, or lack of, with Allimir. No doubt he’d only find it hilarious. “And I don't recall saying anything about taking you out.” Vex stated, raising an eyebrow. “I was merely going to get a bottle from Vekel and give it to you for your trip home.”
To be perfectly honest, sparring had been a spur of the moment idea. Vex hadn’t even been sure if Allimir would agree to it, even after she’d attempted to trick him into it. She pretty much ignored his comment about her not being very frightening, though her mouth curved upwards into a half smirk. Seeing Allimir put his dagger on the table, Vex heaved a sigh and unsheathed her swords, laying them on the table gently. It was going to be odd not fighting with them. Over the years, they had become almost extensions of her arms, though they were definitely not the same swords she had begun to use upon joining the guild. It had been a while since she’d done any hand to hand combat, but it was good practice. You’d never know when it could come in handy, Vex reasoned, as she pulled out the dagger at her hip. She almost forgot to remove her gloves before she saw Allimir’s bare hands. Not wanting to have an advantage, Vex removed her own, curling her hands into fists and relaxing them once more to get the blood flowing.
She paused as Allimir questioned what would happen if he won. Of course, he’d want to put stakes on it. Vex herself would have done it if she’d thought of it first. She kicked some rubble out of the way, not wanting either of them to step on them accidentally and twist an ankle. However, the majority of her attention was on Allimir, curious to hear exactly what he’d want from her if he did happen to win. When he finally did speak, she tilted her head upwards, blinking at him for a moment or two. It wasn’t that Vex didn’t understand. She understood perfectly well. It was more inability to comprehend why Allimir’d want to spend a night with her in an inn. Mixing business with pleasure was perhaps one of the few rules Vex tried not to break. “Fine.” Vex finally answered, agreeing to his terms. All the while, her mind was whirring, trying to find something equally as interesting to put forward for his consideration. “But if I win, you’re going to take me on your next contract.” She raised an eyebrow, questioning whether or not he’d agree to it. Vex wouldn’t interfere with the job, she’d simply observe. And perhaps alleviate the target of a few valuable belongings. They wouldn’t need them for long after Allimir was finished anyway.
Seeing Allimir with his fists raised, Vex quickly followed suit, tilting her head down until her chin was almost on her chest. As she looked at him, Vex automatically began sizing him up. He wasn’t much larger than her, not enough to give him a serious advantage, anyway. Although she usually relied on her quick reflexes, Vex knew Allimir was probably just as fast, if not faster. Inhaling deeply, Vex took a step forward, and another until Allimir was within an arms distance. She threw a punch towards his chest, perfectly aimed, but with nowhere near as much pace as she was capable of putting behind it. As such, Vex knew it’d be bat aside by Allimir like it was a fly. But it was only a test, simply to see whether or not he’d do anything. Some men had qualms about hitting women, but Vex was hoping Allimir wasn’t that sort. She wanted a fight, a good one, and she’d get it out of him one way or another.
