tedril gavyn .
FULL NAME . Tedril Gavyn NICK NAMES . Gav AGE & BIRTHDAY . 29; 14th of Frostfall SPECIES . Dunmer OCCUPATION . Professional mercenary; part-time scholar; Thane of Whiterun STORMCLOAK, IMPERIAL OR NEUTRAL? Neutral GUILDS . None. WITCH, VAMPIRE OR WEREWOLF? N/A SEXUAL ORIENTATION . Heterosexual CANON (IF APPLICABLE) . Nay! | [atrb=border,0,true] Key Skills +One-Handed Weapons: Tedril's preferred method of fighting is to use a one-handed weapon in one hand and his magic in another. Thus, he has become skilled with wielding one-handed weapons, especially swords, in his dominant left hand as the means to clear away and duel with foes who get too close. +Conjuration: Quite naturally adept with conjuration spells, Tedril usually finds use in the reanimation and bound weapon areas of the conjuration schools, having never cared much for having to deal with daedra. +Illusion: Nearly as skilled in illusion as in conjuration, Tedril uses these spells more for utility purposes. He specializes in spells that pacify or send his target into a frenzy, while also managing to muffle the footsteps of himself or someone he targets. +Sneak: Tedril's brand of sneakiness isn't exactly of the "I'ma sneak up behind you and stab you in the throat" variety. He's more reliant on distraction and disguising his movements, wherein he makes good use of his knowledge of the school of illusion. +Light Armor: Obviously, not being of the "run in with swords swinging" type of combatant, Tedril prefers the ease of motion and quiet steps afforded by light armor. +Speech: Lastly, Tedril is a very learned fellow despite his propensity for combat and can be a considerably convincing speaker when he wants to. -------------------------- Weapons, Armor, and Belongings +Elven Sword: Fairly well-off in terms of money, Tedril has been able to secure some light, elegant elvish weapons over the years, the primary one being a sword that gets the most use. +Twin Elven Daggers: In addition to the sword, Tedril carries two daggers that he most often uses as thrown projectiles. +Hide Armor: Tedril wears, when he knows he's going into combat, a nicely-made set of hide armor that allows him the most ease of movement though not as much protection as some armors. Still, it works for him and his needs. -------------------------- Personality Tedril is professional, but that's not to say he's some stone-faced, uninteresting pill. Knowing when to keep his focus is a sense he's developed over the years of working as a solo mercenary and balancing such a life with his social aptitude, developed when he was younger. He likes to be seen as a respectable person who can perform equally well at a political gathering as he can in the midst of a fight. His professionalism is one more to be seen than the kind of ignorance of outside sources that others might adhere to as they focus on their work. In addition to his natural actions, he's very capable of playing whatever role he needs to play on occasion as he's quite a clever actor and has a quick mind when put on the spot. All that said, he's a very down-to-earth sort of fellow, proven by the typical, mundane encounter with him. Surprisingly, talking to him isn't a particularly strenuous thing to do, as he's typically cordial unless he has a reason not to be. He's got a rather quick, if subtle, sense of humor and has seen fit to cut down more than one fool with humor without the fool even being aware that he or she was the butt of the jokes. The infuriating sarcasm that he can produce comes even more quickly. Tedril is, overall, a decent man when it comes to the way he handles the majority of people. He's always thought a little more of his worth than perhaps he ought, but he expends his energies primarily in performing services for the better parts of society rather than the worst parts who might happen to have more coin. His methods are sometimes questionable, it can be said, as he has particularly strong opinions on how to handle bandits and the supernatural beings of Skyrim. Those opinions typically don't spare any sort of violence. It's not a temper that produces such feelings, only longstanding opinions that have shaped his psyche to allow him to feel as if any violence repaid with equal violence is maintaining some sort of balance. He would not, for instance, harm someone without an ounce of blood on their hands. Some jealous fool who's hired a band of butchers to kill a man? Well, they might not enjoy their encounter with Tedril. -------------------------- History Tedril mostly has no homeland, as he was born on a ship in transit to Skyrim as his mother, an heiress to successful merchants, was moving to the Nordic region to be with his father, a mage of the College at Winterhold. He spent much of his youth in traveling with his mother's family, spending a touch of his time at Winterhold when his father could convince other mages to let a child around. He spent a lot of his time there in his father's study or in the arcanium. When with his mother and her family, he mostly spent his time having to act proper and watching the dealings of his family with the Nords and other races of Skyrim, very much learning the need for Dunmer to be respectable in business due to some traditional reputation that he didn't fully understand. He grew to love the books on combat that he found at the college, and having an older sister who would take on the family's merchant business before him, Tedril decided he wasn't particularly interested in spending his entire life in mundane dealings and negotiations. Once he was in his later teens, he enrolled at the College, but to his father's dismay, he spent only about two years there before deciding it wasn't what he was looking for. Instead, in an act that would make the prodigal son proud, Tedril asked for his inheritance and set off to make what he could of the world. His experiences in the family's merchant business and his accumulated knowledge from time spent at the college allowed him to spend time primarily as a of traveling scholar, waiting for his opportunity to find a more ludicrous way to spend his life. A conversation with a fellow Dunmer in a tavern - a professional mercenary - brought to Tedril's attention that there were jobs available for those uninterested in being tied to either the life of a soldier or the less-savory mercenaries who were practically bandits. Opting to find ways to train for such a profession, Tedril spent some time outside of Skyrim's borders in neighboring areas, picking up instruction and experience where he could as he had a distaste for the Nord traditions of the Companions and assumed a Dunmer might not be welcome, anyway. It was a few years later that he returned to Skyrim and began advertising himself as a professional mercenary, mostly working in a city he was familiar with due to his family's traveling, Whiterun. He was not especially successful at first, but as he offered himself in various ways to the citizens of Whiterun Hold, he earned a contract from an influential member of the city to drive out bandits. He would do so, and more, as he helped to spare several homes from a bandit raid in retaliation. After assisting Irileth and her men in slaughtering a rogue werewolf, and successfully escorting a caravan of goods, Tedril earned enough recognition, and was a solid enough citizen, continuing to help with scholarly matters, that he was called to the palace and named a Thane of Whiterun quite recently and assigned a housecarl to his service. |
