ADELA PEITONUS OF BRUMA . ADDIE, OR JUST ADELA . 28 - 4TH OF SECOND SEED . IMPERIAL . FIRST MATE ON THE LADY ARDENT & OFFICER IN THE FOURTH LEGION DIVISION OF THE IMPERIAL LEGION . IMPERIAL . N/A . N/A . HETEROSEXUAL . ORIGINAL CHARACTER . | [atrb=border,0,true] the youngest of five daughters born to a minor noble family based in bruma, cyrodiil, adela's fate was to be married off to some man picked out for her by her husband. she was raised in a court, if a small one, her manners perfect, learning every rule of etiquette there was to be taught, and just generally taking delight in being a young lady. she had no problem being married off, fantasized about it, even, and eagerly looked forward to the day she would meet the man she would be wed to for the rest of her life, and with any luck, love for just as long. after all, she had seen her sisters go through the very same, and they seemed to be coping well. it wasn't something that frightened her. but between her next eldest sister's birthday and adela's impending engagement, lord peitonus was given something he did not expect; a son. with an heir to now carry on his name, he decided that forking out a large dowry so his youngest daughter could wed was a ridiculous idea, and instead seemed content to hold onto adela. she was to be akin to a private serving girl, looking after his lordship as he aged, when he trusted no one but his family to do so. but the lord peitonus' paranoia was his downfall. as terrified as he was of being a target of terrorism and his daughters being kidnapped, he had ordered his men at arms to teach them how to battle like men. adela, more spirited than the rest of his children, took to this well, even disarming peitonus' private soldiers as she aged and her skill grew. she was asked numerous times to consider joining the imperial legion, but adela had always politely declined. as much as she would have loved to be recruited into their ranks, her duty was to marry and make her father proud. at least that was until her father had a change of heart. discontented with the future her father now imagined for her, the seventeen year old adela ran away from home to join the legion. she lied about her age, gave only her first name to the men who recruited her, and after proving herself in a short spar, was hired into the ranks of the legion. adela hasn't looked back since. her rise through the ranks was shaky at best. many thought she was too fragile for battle, too feminine to lead, and so, for many years adela was nothing more than a foot soldier, doing odd jobs for the soldiers around her and being excluded from most of the battles her division happened to take part in. only when she saved her officer's life (by going against his orders, i might add) did anyone begin to take notice of the brunette who had slowly been honing her skills in preparation of the greatness that surely awaited her somewhere. from there on, adela became something of a hero. she was granted a special place in all the official meetings her commanding officer took part in, and was even asked her opinion on several matters. some of the ideas she came up with even won battles. things were going well for her. so well, in fact, that while camping near bruma with her fellow soldiers, she decided to visit her father for the first time in seven years. at first, the lord peitonus didn't recognize the woman in armor before him, but after adela spoke, it did not take him long to work out the woman was the teenage daughter who had betrayed him years earlier. the reunion wasn't a happy one, and after he threatened to abduct her, force her to remain in their small palace until she grew old and gray, adela left. it was clear to her that making amends with her father would be pointless. he had grown far too mad in the years since she had left him. the only thing adela was sad to learn, however, was that her younger brother had died some years previously. her father had no heir. angered by her father, adela put her emotions to use as a fuel for her rapid rise. eventually, she was made and officer herself, given her own men to command. it didn't take many victories for her to earn their loyalty, but adela still felt, and does to this day, the pressure that comes with leadership. she wants to inspire loyalty in her men, but feels the only way she can do this is by claiming victory after victory. she does not even begin to wonder what might happen should she fail her superiors. it didn't take long for adela to grow bored. she loved the life of a soldier, but there was simply nothing to fight in cyrodiil. her blood cried for the rush of the battles she had fought in the past, the strategic planning beforehand, and the rush you got when swinging a sword at other men. eventually, she applied to transfer to the fourth legion after hearing that they were heading north to skyrim to sort out the nords, unaware it was going to rapidly evolve into civil war. it was during one of the small skirmishes against the stormcloaks that adela proved she was a force to be reckoned with. and for the worse. a seemingly genius idea that went against her superiors orders left her small platoon with barely any survivors. if it had been pulled off, it would have surely assured adela's rise into general tullius' council, but it failed miserably, and as she had disobeyed her orders, adela found herself shunned. they were not so stupid to waste her talents, however, and instead of stripping her of her rank, adela was assigned to the lady ardent, to keep an eye on its captain. expecting some shady old man, adela was not prepared for the rather good looking man who she had to watch over. sure, he wasn't as pretty as some of the men she remembered at court, but adela found herself drawn to his rugged appearance. after arriving onboard, adela was determined to do her duty, both to the imperial officers above her, and the captain she now served. of course, her duty to both means she has to keep close to senex's side at all times. with that, it didn't take long for the rumors to spread across the ship, but adela pretends she knows nothing. it's just gossip, after all. |
