Key Skills
+One-Handed: Gallus has had considerable training, both private and in combat situations, utilizing one-handed weapons to fight. He's considered among his crew as one of the best fighters with a sword in his hand that they've seen in their time, and while there are certainly stronger and perhaps faster foes, there are few as opportunistic. The fact that he'll fight dirty only helps.
+Speech: A brilliant wheeler-and-dealer, Gallus can charm, command, mislead, negotiate, and argue with mostly anyone. He usually prefers the tongue before the sword, and oftentimes it proves effective. It's also helped him to ensure his own interests despite being contracted by the Imperial governance of Skyrim.
+Alchemy: One might not imagine that Gallus is a good alchemist, but his educational journey through Skyrim has trained him in the creation of, primarily, poisons. He has never shied away from using his creations.
+Block: Gallus, in addition to his skill with a blade in general, is also a master at being generally annoying in a fight and making his opponent become overly aggressive due to his propensity for blocking the attacks of opponents. He's become quite adept at using that aggression to disarm an opponent.
+Lockpicking: Over time, what with his occasional need to break into a warehouse or a chest that doesn't exactly belong to him, Gallus has become a very skilled lockpicker.

Weapons, Armor, and Ship
+Ebony Sword of Shocking: Being of above average wealth and unopposed to taking a weapon off of a deceased body, Gallus has come across a very nice sword enchanted with magic that he keeps well-maintained at all times and uses really as his only weapon of choice, though he does carry a few unimpressive daggers.
+Gilded Armor: In combat scenarios, Gallus dons light armor with a touch of metallic armoring to it that proves effective in absorbing impact from poorly crafted or lighter weapons.
+The Lady Ardent: Gallus' ship resides somewhere in between the larger merchant vessels and the smaller, lightly crewed vessels that many Nords seem to prefer. It's light enough to hold its own with the smaller ships, but requires a crew of roughly eleven to run at its full capacity. Gallus also often keeps a small array of archers on the ship, putting his typical crew at around sixteen men.

Personality
The constant and infuriating smirk that seems to be a natural part of Senex Gallus' expression should tell quite the story as to his personality. He is a man who reacts to mostly everything with a cool confidence and seems to have the right thing to say - whether it be insult, condolence, or a simple statement - at all of the right times. His eloquence closely matches his persona, and it doesn't help those easily annoyed by smooth speakers that Gallus loves to hear himself talk. Gallus does have the skills to back up his confidence, but no doubt he thinks more of himself than he really should. Having people tell him he's fantastic for a large portion of his life hasn't helped, and nor does the stark dedication of his crew or the number of women who have reinforced his flirtation with that of their own.
He's not totally a man in complete control of all of his emotion as he might appear to be, though. Gallus has quite an impressive temper when it has reason to be triggered. He doesn't take kindly to being overly questioned and fools earn his ire extremely quickly. It can't be said that he's a cruel man, per se, but if he has a reason to lash out at an individual, holding back is not something he's prone to do. Said "lashings" are usually of the verbal variety unless the crime or noteworthy error requires a bit more enthusiasm and a sword becomes involved. He has killed over certainties in his time working for the Imperials.
As one might imagine from the above, Gallus' moral compass does not needle its way anywhere near the term "hero", though some badly uninformed have claimed him to be a reasonably lawful man because he puts on a straight-cut facade when around those holding power over the retaining of his contract with the Imperials. The real Gallus does whatever he can to ensure his own interests, in the form of coin and power, is maintained. He does have a passion for ending the careers of pirates; however, it's usually because he can step into whatever underhanded deals they were a part of and continue them himself. Some consider that his interest in the female first mate of his ship, an Imperial representative, may only be to keep her from reporting his illegal actions to the Imperial governors.

History
Born into a merchant family in Cyrodiil as the eldest of three children, Senex Gallus became acquainted with a life of dealing from an early age. As they owned a fairly prosperous shipping and trading business in the Imperial City, Gallus had an opportunity for both social and educational development. He received the most lengthy schooling of his three siblings before taking up a small position in the family business that allowed him to generate his own coin over time. And generate coin he would, as less-savory members of the merchant group showed him the ways to maximize his income. Gallus, being as young as he was, was sloppy, though, and it was only an educational opportunity that saved him from his families' discoveries of the illegal work he was doing.
A rich friend of the family offered Gallus an opportunity to join a group of other young adults in an educational experience that would see them touching every corner of Tamriel. Though Gallus did enjoy home, he accepted the offer. After going through light training under members of the Imperial army to learn how to properly combat any situations that might result from their exploration, Gallus set off with the group and spent differing intervals in Hammerfell, High Rock, Skyrim, Morrowind, and the Summerset Isles. Obviously the journey saw him aboard many a sailing ship heading to and fro. Having already had some experience from the ship his family owned, Gallus became highly interested in acquiring a ship of his own. Upon returning the Imperial City to find his family still upset with his previous methods of gaining more coin than he was due, Gallus started by joining the crew of a separate merchant ship. He stayed only long enough to learn in detail the way to sail a ship and to gain enough money to buy his own. Gallus bought his Lady Ardent and did what any man would do - flaunted it a little, earning both the attention of women and a crew - before getting down to business.
Gallus advertised himself as something of a "protector of goods" in order to find work for his crew and his ship. He first found himself involved in menial tasks as primarily a part of Imperial convoys taking supplies out to their holdings. Seeking greater control over his fate, he attempted to become a self-supporting ship working for hire by those needing passage or wishing to smuggle small amounts of goods on ships carrying other cargo - these ideas didn't prove much more effective, though Gallus did gain some much greater recognition by working for several important members of Imperial aristocracy and, on a couple of occasions, the Thalmor. It was once the war promised to start in Skyrim that Gallus took his crew there for the work they'd been looking for. He was granted a contract by the government to work for them in some measure of counter-piracy as a singular ship tracking down individual Stormcloak or unaffiliated ships that were causing trouble in the time preceding and during the war. The only chains put on Gallus' actions were by the appointing of his first mate, a female Imperial officer...a first mate he has started an affair with since. Gallus does perform his duties for the Imperials, but to his own end, stealing money and power from them and the Nords at whatever junction he can.
