COUNTING BODIES LIKE SHEEP TO THE RHYTHM OF THE WAR DRUMS tagged astrid, with 460 words, wearing this. short and sweet~ c: [STYLE=background-color:#191919; width:325px; height: 350px; overflow: auto; font-family:Arial; color:#aaaaaa; text-align:justify; text-transform:lowercase; font-size:10px; opacity: .8; padding: 10 10 10 10px;]the one thing that allimir hated most about solitude wasn't how snobbish some, well, most of the people could be. it was their loyalty to the empire that made him want to wear a frown the moment he walked through the front gate to the time he left. if he didn't have to go weeks without seeing that annoying imperial red colour, it'd be way too soon. of course, it wasn't because he was more so on ulfric's side of the war; he just didn't like what the empire, and imperials, stood for. the bosmer didn't really understand why nords were sometimes so high-strung about certain things, but he also knew he'd never understand, so there was no point in trying. luckily, whenever the imperial guards did make a pit-stop in at the winking skeever before heading back to the barracks for the end of their shift, it was a short visit, and they generally paid no mind to the bosmer. not if he kept his head down, anyway.
currently, the second in command of the dark brotherhood was currently waiting on sorex, corpulus' son, to come back with his ordered bottle of ale. he hadn't been in the cellar long, but allimir didn't like waiting on simple things; waiting on an imperial to bring him something to drink? patience weren't to be felt. luckily, as soon as allimir was about to go search for the imperial, he returned with the bottle. nodding his head in thanks, allimir took it from him without too much haste, and turned on his heels to pad back up the stairs into the higher lounging area where he and astrid had taken over. their presence wasn't hidden, of course, but no one rarely went up the stairs after realizing who exactly was up there; or, at least, who was rumored. so, they had their privacy, and if they really needed it later, it wasn't like they didn't have a lock on their rented room.
flopping down into the vacant chair, allimir popped the bottle's cork, lifting it to his lips for a small swig before realizing they had glasses. after he swallowed, he poured each glass fairly, corking the bottle again to set aside for later. "so, what do we have so far on this guy?" he asked lowly, glancing over to astrid with an arched brow. "i know the coin that they're offering seems worth it, but is it really? looks like there's a lot of invisible strings attached to this bloke's ankle." allimir liked working, and he liked sending others out to work and bring septims back with them, but if it was something over their heads, he didn't want to risk it. not unless it'd be worth every second.

There was always plenty to consider when you were coming up with these plans.
While she waited for her second in command to come back with the ale, Astrid stood over the table that their plans were laid out on. With furrowed eyebrows, she studied various aspects of this contract. It would seem that wealthy people usually had plenty of enemies, and that was exactly how they had gotten this contract. A second man, wealthy himself, had called for the Dark Brotherhood to extinguish the life of this wealthy resident of Solitude. Because of the level that this one ranked, Astrid had asked Allimir to go and to actually go herself to check out this possible contract. They had been working on it for some time now, and the deeper she went, the more she hesitated. Though this man had many enemies, it seemed that he had some friends as well. They would have to go carefully with this one…very carefully.
But she wasn’t going to give up on such a contract as this. They’d been offered plenty to get the job done, enough that Astrid felt it was really worth it. And of course, there was much more at stake here than just coin. No, it was their reputation as well. They might have been a bit waning lately, and she wanted to get them back on top. The way to do that was the riskier missions. The missions on important figures that people cared about. They weren’t untouchable in the Dark Brotherhood, but they were damned close. She wanted that fear and respect to expand tenfold of the current state of things. Contracts like this were exactly the way to go about that.
Astrid wasn’t bothered by the entrance of a second figure, who she knew without looking was her own second in command. She spared him only a bit of a glance when he settled himself into the chair and started to gulp down the ale. The assassin didn’t say anything, but accepted the glass of ale once Allimir seemed to figure out that there was such a thing. Leaning easily against her table, Astrid gave him her attention while she lifted the glass to her lips and sipped at the ale.
Placing it down softly, Astrid brushed some blonde hair over her shoulder and returned back to the various items of information in front of her. “Wealthy, prominent, influential, some friends.”, she started. “It seems he rose in rank quickly…too quickly.”, she pointed out. “Obviously he stepped on quite a few people to do so, but I’ll give the man credit. He knew which people to cozy up to.” Astrid didn’t know this man, but she could appreciate the desire for power. Still, he was a target, nothing more, nothing less.
The question that Allimir asked had been one that had been going through her own head as well for some time. Pushing back from the table, Astrid lifted her glass and quickly strode to the second chair opposite her second in command, settling down on it easily. For a moment she pursed her lips and thought about his question once, before she leaned forward in the seat, elbows placed lightly on the table. “Perhaps he’s a more risky operation, but nothing that any of us couldn’t handle. He’s everything the Brotherhood needs to advance the fear toward them by tenfold. Prominent, a key figure in Solitude. It would get us plenty of attention.”

COUNTING BODIES LIKE SHEEP TO THE RHYTHM OF THE WAR DRUMS tagged astrid, with 584 words, wearing this. hope this is alright! [STYLE=background-color:#191919; width:325px; height: 350px; overflow: auto; font-family:Arial; color:#aaaaaa; text-align:justify; text-transform:lowercase; font-size:10px; opacity: .8; padding: 10 10 10 10px;]"quite a few people?" allimir questioned, arching his eyebrows in disbelief. "he probably stepped on everyone he could; including the little people." no one rose that high in reputation unless they were born into it, and this man hadn't been of noble birth. yet he was as rich as one now, and everyone almost seemed to know his name. which was rather amusing, since allimir had never heard of godrel before in his life. but, then again, allimir generally didn't keep up with any of the politics going on amongst skyrim's land; he just cared about the family getting contracts in order to keep their establishment running. "think he got some help in finding out who to kiss ass to? no one gets lucky enough to find a needle out of a haystack by themselves." and if he did get help from someone, they'd have to find out who, and make sure they didn't pose as a high threat to the sanctuary. the empire was already livid about their operations, doing something too noticeable would ruin all their chances at survival.
astrid's words were taken into consideration, and the bosmer's face twisted in thought. he could agree with her on the fact that they needed another edge to get people to fear them again, and this would be a good way to let people know they were still around, and very established. sighing, he kicked his feet up, propping them onto the table's corner, lifting his glass to his lips again. swallowing quite a bit of the liquid the tankard held, he slowly lowered his hand to his chest, wiping his lips off with his opposite. "it will.. if it's carried out properly." he mused in a bit of a droning tone. "someone experienced will have to carry it out, a member we trust not to over-look anything. if we decide to go through with this, we'll have to make sure they're aware of everything. we'll have to make sure we're aware of everything." glancing towards the table that held there information, he frowned slightly. "he could have millions of contacts within skyrim alone. this could make or break us."
footsteps caught allimir's ear, and before the stray could finish walking the rest of the way upstairs, allimir was on his feet and three steps down to stop them in their tracks. holding up his left hand, he offered lisette a charming smile. he wasn't very fond of bards, even if they were female, but when business was being conducted, it didn't matter what his tastes were and weren't. "we're a little busy up here, love." he stated, his eyes steady as they held her gaze. she didn't seem too impressed, and when she opened her mouth in what allimir assumed was protest, he quickly pulled out a small handful of coins from his pocket. "why don't you go get yourself a drink, eh? on me." she brightened up, cupping the money with a smile, her attitude towards the bosmer completely turned upside down. watching her walk off, taking a seat at the bar, allimir let out a small sigh and turned on his heels, making his way back to his chair.
his flop this time was much more exaggerated, and instead of reaching for his tankard, his fingers wrapped around the bottle. tilting it to his lips, he rested his head back on the chair and closed his eyes. "perhaps this is something for your husband."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=style, background-color:#f4f4f4; width:400px; padding:8px; border: 8px solid #010101;] IT NEVER WAS AND NEVER WILL BE You don’t know how you’ve betrayed me AND SOMEHOWYOU’VE GOT EVERYBODY FOOLED
Tasting another sip of Ale from her seat, Astrid relaxed and nodded in agreement. “Half of Solitude hates him, if not more.” Checking back on him, she had seen the same story tell itself and then retell itself over and over. It hadn’t mattered who it was, anyone that could possibly hold him from riches or who might advance him had been stomped into the ground. Astrid was sure that more would have asked for a contract had they had enough money to make this worth their while. The final straw had been this man using a rich man’s daughter. If there was one rule in life that everyone should know – including the dim-wits, wasn’t it to never mess with the daughter of a rich man?
Well whatever, you only had to slip up once and your life could be snuffed out like a candle. Astrid knew that very well herself, acknowledged the possibility of death every day, and was probably alive because of that fact and that fact alone. Skill only got you so far, especially in this business. You could have skill and be killed on the first contract you went on. Many had done so, thinking themselves big and tough. How big and tough were you, when you had an arrow through your spine? Anyone could take a life, but not anyone could keep theirs.
Could he have had help? Allimir had a point. People that were this successful generally had some help to do so. “From what I’ve seen, there isn’t one that he’s leaned toward in terms of partiality, but the possibility is there. If you find anything on that angle, let me know.” It might be back to the drawing board with that new possibility. No matter how much pull Astrid had to do a certain contract, the Brotherhood came first. She wouldn’t be one to jeopardize her family. So if there was a threat of anyone coming after them, Astrid would drop the contract and never proceed with it. With a face coldly serious, she lifted her eyes toward her second in command. “If there’s any possibility that this might turn into some sort of cat and mouse hunt with some wealthy man in Solitude trying to destroy the Brotherhood, we drop the contract. No arguments.”
Of course it would have to be a trusted member. Astrid thought while she sat there, lifting her drink to her mouth once more while she pictured every member in the Brotherhood. She understood where his worry was coming from, really she could. Astrid was thinking everything he was, just holding it inside a bit more. “If it comes down to it Allimir, you or I will pull this one, if not both of us.”, she said slowly, moving her glass over slightly, thinking of all the contacts he could have. “Exactly why this contract is being reviewed so well. Before we strike on this one, we need to know this man inside and out. We need to know where he was every day in the last five years. Everyone he spoke to, everyone he paid some extra money to look the other way, every man, woman, or child he stepped on. Once we-“
Astrid wrinkled her nose in annoyance at the interruption. Craning her head around, blue eyes pierced into the eyes of a bard she had already labeled as unintelligent. Everyone else left the two mysterious characters alone, except her. She probably couldn’t even spell her name correctly. Thankfully Allimir dealt with her instead of Astrid, who wouldn’t have been so nice as to part with some coin to get her to leave. “You have such a way of controlling the bottle.”, she commented, her eyes doing the gesturing while she glanced from him toward the bottle.
The mention of her husband caused a bit of a distraction. Astrid felt a wolfish grin settle on her features before she poured some more ale in her tankard. Despite working hard at playing favorites, it was hard. To her, no one quite measured up to him, in more ways than one. “Arnbjorn can definitely handle himself.” That was an understatement. He could more than handle himself, but of course, this was neither the time nor the place to allow her mind to wander in that direction. She would be riding Shadowmere back to the Brotherhood if she did. “But he might not want a contract in this category. Arnbjorn has a raw lust for power deep inside that might make waiting around for some fancy pants Solitude citizen a challenge for him.” That same raw lust for power might be the ingredient to him that made him irresistible in her eyes, and kept him that way.

COUNTING BODIES LIKE SHEEP TO THE RHYTHM OF THE WAR DRUMS tagged astrid, with 704 words, wearing this. baaaaaaaamf. east empire dramallamaaa~ [STYLE=background-color:#191919; width:325px; height: 350px; overflow: auto; font-family:Arial; color:#aaaaaa; text-align:justify; text-transform:lowercase; font-size:10px; opacity: .8; padding: 10 10 10 10px;]the idea that allimir might have to go back and start finding information about this bastard again made him want to outwardly cringe, but he didn't. instead, he just nodded in astrid's direction, still respecting her choices as the leader of the dark brotherhood. he was certain that he'd be more intimidating when he went to go visit people's houses, and brought out his favourite dagger to accompany his visit. people generally gave up information if you seemed like you had a lot less in the world to lose, and wearing his dark brotherhood symbol generally scared most into telling him anything without much pause. naturally, he only wore his dark brotherhood armor when he was prepared to kill someone, though; showing off where he belonged wasn't a good idea, because it brought attention back to the sanctuary, and that wasn't good.
but, then again, maybe killing this guys contacts wouldn't be such a bad idea. it'd make him flush to his allies' homes, and attempt to take up arms or refuge. they could find out more about him by scaring him- if he even cared, of course. "understood." allimir nodded his head, showing that he did understand her command. he wasn't interested in playing cat and mouse with a man he had to kill, anyway; cat and mouse with a woman like vex, however..
when allimir returned from saving their important information to their ears only, allimir couldn't help but smirk at astrid's comment. he generally liked to think so. "if it was respectable to marry a bottle of ale, i more than likely already would've." it was his answer to just about everything; bored? drink some ale; lost a fight? drink some ale; couldn't sleep? drink some ale. it was almost ridiculous, but he at least kept his ale-drinking to a minimum if he knew he had to be coherent. he knew drunkards that couldn't do their professions unless they were drunk, because they'd gotten so used to their shaky movements, and unadjusted stances and efforts. allimir had no idea how he'd ever be able to shoot an arrow and expect it to do any damage while he was intoxicated.
allimir's face scrunched up at astrid's mention of her husband, arnbjorn, being able to handle himself. he knew in which manner astrid was speaking, simply because allimir thought the same about past lays and women alike. but, he never really mentioned his perverted thoughts out loud, and especially not in the presence of anyone from the family. but he knew it was harder for astrid to contain herself. he'd heard her and her werewolf-man on more than one occasion, and each time, it'd almost haunted him. but that was more so because he looked to astrid like a sister- an actual sister figure. so hearing her and her beast of a man going at it made his stomach clench with slight unease. and at times like these, when he knew astrid's mind was moments away from wandering off to start thinking about unsanitary things, he couldn't help but act like a child. he never meant any harm with it, though.
"this is true.. he is a bit of a powerhouse." more than a powerhouse, but allimir didn't want to come off as offensive. "with the way this is turning out, i'm just going to suggest that we handle it ourselves. it'll be better with both of us to be there, just in case something goes wrong. if we miss a detail, it could be our heads, so at least there'd be more of a chance with us being in a duo." standing, allimir grabbed a journal that had apparently been written by their target, and carried it back over to where astrid was. plopping back down, he opened the journal up to a specific page, near the end, finding the entry about purchasing a room at the winking skeever, and then in the morning, he was to make his way to the east empire company warehouse for an arranged deal. "here, read this. the next page is ripped out, so i'm not sure what happened. but i'm thinking we can find out if we head over there ourselves."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=style, background-color:#f4f4f4; width:400px; padding:8px; border: 8px solid #010101;] IT NEVER WAS AND NEVER WILL BE You don’t know how you’ve betrayed me AND SOMEHOW YOU’VE GOT EVERYBODY FOOLED
Astrid found it easy to plan with her second in command. Why? Because though he brought very good ideas and contributions to the table, when it came right down to it, he would follow her step and directions. And that was a damned good thing too. Astrid didn’t take to anyone in the Brotherhood that didn’t follow directions and orders. She’d been in this game for too long for them to question her, especially since she always had the good of the Brotherhood in mind. It was her entire life really. From the time she had been a very young woman she had been there. It was the only home she cared to ever remember, since her home growing up had been…less than anything worth mentioning. And she did like her family.
Aside from Cicero.
But she would deal with him sooner or later. That little boy just gave her the creeps…just like her uncle had of late. Perhaps not in the same way, but it was still there. And her hunches were generally right. That damned clown was up to something. She was sure of it. With a sigh, she took a sip of ale and shoved the clown problem out of her mind. This was neither the time nor the place to worry about that. She could think about that later.
She found herself smiling at his comment about marrying a bottle of ale. “I have no doubt you would have done so if there were a way.” Astrid was being sincere when she said that. Allimir definitely had a taste for good alcohol. She could respect that too, since she felt the same way. As long as alcohol didn’t interrupt your ability to fulfill your contracts, the blonde leader of the Brotherhood had no problem with her family drinking it. When it got to the point that it interfered with their ability to do jobs, she would step in.
A moment later her own thoughts were miles away from Solitude and back in the Brotherhood. With a smile on her face, Astrid took another sip of ale and thought of her own puppy. He could definitely handle himself, and she had no shame in admitting that she wasn’t only thinking of his fulfilling contracts. Damn, but it was hard not playing favorites. They needed to get this cleared up soon so she could get the hell out of Solitude and back home. She’d always hated the pompous morons that could be found in every corner in this city. “He can be a bit…zealous about ripping out throats.”, she said in amusement. Despite seeing that aggression which lead to sure death from him many, many times, Astrid could honestly say she had no idea what it was like to be the object of that extreme violence on his part.
Back on the subject.
Grunting under her breath lightly in agreement, Astrid settled her tankard down and searched it with her blue eyes. “I think you’re right. I would sleep better at night knowing one of us was on this one.” Leaning forward to see the journal, she quirked a brow and reached for it with interest. Reading the entry, that same smirk showed up on her face. “Ahh, so he’s going to the warehouse. Interesting.” Very interesting. Glancing at the time that he was supposed to be meeting them, she felt even better about it. “That early in the morning? Nearly no one is out at the docks at that point.”, she mentioned, stroking t her chin with her fingers. "Perhaps we should strike sooner than we thought originally." tagged !

COUNTING BODIES LIKE SHEEP TO THE RHYTHM OF THE WAR DRUMS tagged astrid, with 672 words, wearing this. sorry for the delaaaay! hope this is alright c: the very idea of astrid and her hubby putting on their own matches of strength made allimir almost visibly shudder. he wasn't sure if he could ever look at someone of their family, and think that way towards them; not even someone as beautiful and outspoken as astrid herself. even if she wasn't married to a werewolf, allimir knew he'd have a difficult time mixing his libido in with relations of the dark brotherhood. it was bad taste, and he respected the women they had much more than to do that. but that was just his opinion on the matter. he was happy that astrid was happy, and she could trust her husband to full lengths. he just.. sometimes wished that they'd keep it down a little better whenever they knew other people were awake. "i don't think the word 'zeal' is strong enough for your furry lover." smirking, allimir shrugged his shoulders, hoping she wouldn't take any offence to him calling him such a thing. it wasn't like him and arnbjorn didn't make quirks at each other about their secondary races.
as astrid took the journal and examined it for her own eyes, a grin started to grow on allimir's lips. the more she seemed happy about the information he'd been able to swipe, the further his lips creased wickedly. however, he had a bit of a dilemma when she said they could probably strike a lot sooner than they had originally planned. "not only that," he started, glancing towards the stairs to make sure no one was eavesdropping on them. "but his room'll be left unattended while he's gone. you and me both know how easy it is to get information from someone's vacant inn room; too easy. so after he leaves, one of us can tail him, while the other sticks back to try and find the missing page." running his index finger down the torn fray of the page, he arched his eyebrows at astrid across the table, finding his plan rather good, if he was allowed to think such things. "i don't think i'd be that hard to find a piece of paper, so we'd be back together before the meeting was finished. it's not very hard to get to the docks without being seen." especially when the sun was still hidden; giving allimir a better chance at actually doing this with his first in command without any more injury than required.
the only thing allimir hated about being a vampire was pretty much just the negative effects the sun had on him. everything else enhanced him, but one glimpse of sunlight and he could physically feel his power and strength slip from his grasp. there was no regeneration for him while he was in the sun's light, and if someone looked too close, they'd see the faint burn starts from the crude light on his skin. and that was the last thing he needed; some child exposing his secret to the largest city within skyrim's lands. it was really moments like these that allimir was thankful that their sanctuary was in falkreath. not everyone was pro-vampire there, but more people than in most settled locations. it felt a little more like home because of that.
"depending on what else we find out, and who this hellion's meeting, we might be able to get paid earlier than we anticipated." raising the bottle of ale, he took a small mouthful before the rest of his information processed through his head. "however, if he's into something big.. something we wont be able to take from, we'll have to put it off. at least until he's completed whatever.. this is." closing the journal, allimir tied the leather stripes closed, locking the journal from mistakenly opening in anyone's presence that wasn't welcome. "now, onto a bigger question: are you going to tail mister septim while i root around his room, or am i going to lead our party to the docks, and wait for you to catch up?" .

Despite not being one to often show any sort of humor or amusement in anything aside from killing or taunting others, Astrid found herself chuckling over Allimir’s reaction to her relationship with Arnbjorn. After her laughing had subsided, she took another sip of the ale and gave him a raise of her eyebrow. Though they were actually here on very important business, Astrid couldn’t help but prod Allimir over his apparent discomfort over the relationship she had with her husband. What did Allimir expect, that she would never feel a hunger for her husband? “You surprise me Allimir.”, she started with that tilt of her head and that amusing sparkle of her eyes. “For one with your own zeal for…passion and life, it shouldn’t surprise you that a husband and wife should share a similar zeal.” Here, in this secluded place, Astrid had less of a problem admitting to Allimir how much she favored her own husband over anyone else that moved or breathed, and often based her reaction to them on his own image in her mind. Allimir was confident in his own position as second in command, and she had no image to uphold here. Besides that, she rarely turned down a time to tease Allimir about her husband, since he seemed to be so disturbed by their own passionate relationship. “But you’re right, he probably needs a better term. Perhaps explosive?”, she asked, thoroughly enjoying his discomfort while she made her quip that was talking about more than just his abilities on a battlefield.
Right, they had important business to take care of as well. She found great enjoyment out of what Allimir had managed to get for her in terms of information, as could probably be told by the smile on her lips. He had served her well – as he always did, and once more reaffirmed how good of a second in command he was. Tapping the table with her fingertips while he started to tell her more, Astrid simply lifted her eyes and eyebrow while she considered what he said. “It sounds quite easy really, much easier than I had hoped it would be. However, I’m sure I don’t have to warn you to keep a constant eye open. Contracts that had seemed altogether too easy have turned out to be far from such when we actually get into it, and if possible, I would rather this go off without a hitch.”
When he presented her with the option of what she wanted to do, Astrid leaned back in her seat, picked up her ale to take a drink, and considered it while the liquid ran down her throat. Astrid often handed over the more difficult tasks to him – having earned her right to do so with many years of taking on the hardest tasks herself in her rise to the top of the Brotherhood. However, she still considered herself the best and very much liked to test her skills to see if they were as sharp as ever. Every time she did – as with recently in the contract with her husband – she realized that she was just as good at this as ever, and enjoyed it just as much. Perhaps that meant that she would like to tail this guy and do some of the more ‘difficult work.’ “I’ll tail him.”, she finally decided, before setting her ale down on the table and glancing over at him. “We have roughly five hours before he’ll be leaving to meet at the warehouse, so I myself am going to sleep for a few of those. You can do what you want.”, she mentioned while she pushed the chair back from the table and then stood up. “But he’s scheduled to meet at the warehouse at five, which means he’ll leave at least half an hour before then. So be up and ready at four to move out, if not before.” That being said, Astrid turned and retreated to one of the two beds in the room she had rented for them. Her body wasted no time drifting off to sleep.
