but it seemed that nature wasn't working with her today. none of the regular spots she gathered from held any useful plants, and she'd been wandering for an hour before finding one of the plants she was after. it was in good condition, and to make sure it kept growing healthily, she only took as many leaves as she would need for the coming months. another few minutes away were another couple of plants that elanor knew would come in handy, and then there was just one more she had to find.
knowing it was a hardier plant, elanor headed more towards the northern mountain ridge, hoping to find it along the rocky ground at the ridge's base. it didn't take long to arrive, and as nearly as soon as she arrived, elanor found the plant she was looking for. "perfect," she mumbled to herself, trimming again what she needed and leaving the plant to grow again. she was fixing her skirts and turning to head home again when she heard a low growl from behind her. immediately her eyes grew wide, turning slowly to face whatever creature was behind her. she willed herself to not shake at being confronted with one of the largest bears she had ever seen. mentally she cursed her own stupidity, just as the bear growled again, much louder this time. it took all elanor's strength to remain still, knowing if she moved it would mean the end of her. |

OUTFIT HERE | [atrb=style, width: 265px;][atrb=valign,top]The snow had fallen slowly, almost floating, down to the hard ground of the mountain peaks as Valgier made his way throughout Skyrim. Always in search of the woman that stole his heart and broke it in so many different ways, the hound of Hircine grew weary. There was only so much he could do because his hope started to dwindle and his spirit started to fade with the knowledge that, even if he did find her, he could never harm her. As much as his instincts overwhelmed him, his wanting to keep his prey safe was much too powerful for him to ignore.
With iron covered feet, he trudged through the freezing winds and thick snow, letting his senses guide him. The last he had heard, the one they called Lamae was in the city of Dawnstar, a ways away from his latest location in Falkreath. As strong and mmortal as Valgier Strong-Heart ws, he was stil in need of sustinance and rest. Unfortunately, he was unable to find himself a suitable inn or a kind home owner to take him in for the night. In light of these circumstances, the hound decided to keep moving, until he made it to Whiterun.
As his journey continued, he found himself near the mountain ridge near the great city, his sense of smell picking up on both beast and human scent. Narrowing his eyes, he made his way towards them, hoping he could find himself a free meal. Instead, he found himself watching a traumatic scene unfold. A woman, young and vulnrable, face to face with a mighty beast of the wild - a cave bear. Furrowing his eyebrows, the immortal being made swift steps up behind the bear, bravely grabbing it by the scruff and bashing its head into the ground, "You will not harm her!" he shouted, his voice echoing off the mountain sides.

she was frantically going through the spells she knew, trying to find something that would frighten the bear without actually harming it when a man came up behind the bear. she was going to warn then, thinking how stupid they were, when they attacked the best with surprising speed and strength elanor had not expected. she heard the bear's head connect with the ground as the man yelled, immediately wondering whether or not the beast that had just been about to kill her was now dead.
"did you.." she started, her voice trembling despite her best efforts to keep it even. "did you kill it?" she asked of the man. while she didn't think doing so was completely necessary, she was grateful nevertheless. |

OUTFIT HERE | [atrb=style, width: 265px;][atrb=valign,top]The bear went down easily, its head making grave contact with the ground as Valgier kept it locked in a downward position. There were many things he wouldn't mind killing, but a bear wasn't one of them; he respected the beasts for their hunting skills and sheer strength - it was a rare sight in Skyrim.
His head lifted to gaze upon the woman who now stood in front of him, shivering with what he could only assume was fear. It was his hope that he didn't frighten her, even though he realized his entrance wasn't exactly calm. Getting a good look of her face, his own softened and he suddenly felt terrible for how he had handled the situation. Almost a millenium in this world and he still managed to make mistakes.
Hearing her question, he looked down at the bear, feeling the pulse of its heartbeat against his finger tips, "No." he stated, simply, before letting go of the beast before him, "Merely unconscious." he stated, his gaze finding her own once more.
"May I ask what a woman like yourself is doing out here..." he looked around, trying to find a trace of another person, "alone?"

"oh, i'm glad." elanor stated, watching him check the bear's pulse and confirm it was still alive. only after saying so did elanor realise how silly she must sound. the beast would have eaten her given the chance, but elanor was concerned for its life. those who survived out in the wilds would have laughed at how ridiculous that seemed, but elanor had always felt a little more in touch with the natural world around her. the thought of an animal dying because she'd been stupid enough to wander near their home was not something she wanted on her conscience.
that was when her attention turned to the man. her eyes ran over him, still alarmed from both his appearance and the bear. elanor knew he could not be from whiterun, she knew many of the familiar faces there, and one so striking would certainly have stuck out. so she determined he must be a traveller. only then did she realise she had been asked a question. "oh, i was collecting ingredients. i'm a healer." she stated, lifting her basket to confirm her story. "i was alone because i didn't think i would be long. it was stupid of me.." she lowered her gaze to the rocky ground, feeling completely foolish. |

The two of them would have to relocate, and quickly. Still, the hound stayed put, keeping his eye half on the bear while the rest of his attention fell on the breton before him. Petite and fragile looking, he found it incredibly odd to see her unaccompanied and he answer didn't help much, "You're looking for ingredients this far from Whiterun?" he inquired before taking a step towards her, "And unaccompanied? Some would say you are looking for death." his words were not meant to be rude, but he figured she understood.
"Do you reside in Whiterun?" he asked, a bit unsure. It was only his first assumption but, for all he knew, she could be a wanderer. In which case, he but be surprised she had managed to handle herself for this long, "Or perhaps somewhere near by?" his brow arched at her as he looked her over once more, still unsure what to take of her.

"i normally find them closer to the city, but the cold seems to have killed the plants i usually stumble across." she half shrugged, knowing it was a weak excuse. this mysterious man was right. it would have been so easy to die out in the wilderness. either by a bear, or a sabre cat, or whatever other horrors that made the wilderness of skyrim their home. her expression became sheepish as el avoided his eyes, feeling very much like a child being chided for wandering away from their parents.
the man's next question drew her gaze back to him, giving another nod in reply. "i do. in the bannered mare, actually." surely the man had heard of it. it was one of the most popular inns in skyrim, or so elanor had heard. "are you.. are you from around here?" elanor asked in reply, still uncertain of this man. he had surely saved her life, but there was something more to him, and elanor couldn't quite figure out what that was. |
