MARIC THE CUNNING .
MARIC THE CUNNING . MARIC . 248 & TWENTY-SECOND OF MORNING STAR . DUNMER . PIRATE . NEUTRAL . N/A . N/A . HETEROSEXUAL . ORIGINAL . | [atrb=border,0,true] WEAPONS & ARMOUR , Maric wears light leather armour, similar to the armour of the Thieves Guild. His daggers are elven, and they are kept sharp enough to be used as surgical tools. His bow and arrows are also of elven make. SKILLS , Life on the streets shaped Maric. He is skilled in lock-picking, and pick-pocketing. He is very stealthy, and if he doesn't want to be caught, he won't be. Maric is an excellent archer, and he fights with dual-weapons in close combat. He is very quick on his feet, and agile, making him hard to pin down or corner. PERSONALITY , Not all pirates are scoundrels. At least Maric doesn't believe that he is a scoundrel. Witty? Yes. Mischievous? Perhaps. Charming? Always. Maric isn't what you would expect from a Dunmer. He learned a long time ago that acting like the rest of his race would get him nowhere outside of Morrowind. He learned to adapt, and learned that the haughty attitude of his race hadn't made them any friends out in the world. Not surprisingly, Maric often gets along better with members of other races. He's used to dealing with the initial reaction that people have since he is a Dunmer, but he can get along quite well with anyone that is easy going, or has a sense of humor. Maric learned at an early age that you cant count on people, and that you have to make the best of what you're given in life. He is quite adaptable, and likes challenges. Maric is not distrusting exactly, but he will not depend on people until they have proved themselves to be reliable time and time again. Because of this, he firmly believes that if you want something done right, you must do it yourself. He does not ask for favors, and will not seek out the services of others. He has a hard time taking people on their word alone, but it's not because he doesn't like people. In fact he can be quite friendly if he's in the mood for it. If there's something Maric loves, it's a good story. He'll sit around and exchange stories and legends for years. He loves traveling. He loves seeing new places. He loves adventure. He loves battle. He does not love restrictions or regulations, and he frequently says that the mainland life is not for him. Of course that's not to say that things wouldn't be better now that he was away from Morrowind, but he hasn't given it a try yet. He's too busy enjoying his freedom on the open sea to think about settling down. He has no reason to exchange his sea legs for a life on land. He has flings here and there, but he is always gone with the tide. Surprisingly a true romantic, he fell in love once long ago, and hasn't considered ever doing it again. HISTORY , Maric's father was a prominent politician of Redoran house, and his mother was a commoner brought in to wed his father as an attempt to bring in outside blood. Maric was born into House Redoran, and should have lived an easy life. This was not to be so. When Maric was ten, his mother was found in bed with another man. In outrage, House Redoran had the Morag Tong assassinate his young Maric's mother. They were hired to kill Maric as well, the House had no way of knowing if he was one of theirs or not, but a kind soul within House Redoran helped Maric flee to the streets of Vivec. As a young boy living on the streets, Maric's life was not so blessed. Luckily, Maric was a fast learner, He quickly adapted to living among the poor and homeless. He worked as a thief for his supper, and as he became older and more skilled, he would sell his skills out for coin. Maric was never treated well by his people, he was after all, just a street rat. Maric liked to remind himself that he wasn't a bad person. He was just trying to survive. He was certain that his mother wouldn't have approved of his lifestyle, but he had to do what he had to do. When Maric was sixteen, he met a young lady on the streets. He learned that she was Telvanni, but she had fled her house. Maric had been taught within House Redoran that House Telvanni were not to be associated with, but Maric no longer a member of house Redoran, and the last thing he wanted to do was listen to those he hated so much. The young Dunmer didn't know the first thing about life on the streets, so Maric took care of her. Unsurprisingly, the pair fell in love. This was the one and only time that Maric would give his heart to a woman that wasn't his mother. In an act of foolishness, he gave the young woman the one possession he had left of his mother's, a simple locket. The locket itself was empty, but Maric had worn it every day since leaving House Redoran. Now he kicks himself over giving her the locket. They had been together for quite some time when Maric left her "home" alone to do a job. He left the abandoned building they had been staying in while she was asleep, and when he returned she was gone. Maric searched high and low, finally finding an elderly homeless gentleman who had seen her taken by the Morag Tong. In blind rage, Maric tried to go after her, but there's only so much that a young Dunmer can do against the Morag Tong. Eventually he decided that he needed help, but that was easier said than done. None of the Dunmer were that stupid. He had to search outside of Morrowind. It took him a long time to learn how to act around the other races he came across. He traveled far and wide, for years and years, searching for someone. He would go back to Morrowind more than once, and again try to free her, but he was never successful. Eventually Maric accepted that he wasn't strong enough. He wasn't ready to give up, but he knew that he couldn't do anything now. He needed better allies, and he needed a real plan. He had no idea if the Morag Tong would even keep her alive, but he couldn't abandon her. He joined a ship crew after a few years of resorting to alcoholism. The ship was raided by pirates, but they saw promise in Maric, so they offered him a job. Maric had not been especially attached to the crew, so he took it. Since he has went between ships, joining different crews, and still looking for a way to rescue her, even though he doesn't know if she's even alive. |
