Looked like it had run off. Slipping his bow back over his shoulder, Iain gave her a lopsided grin in apology about the buck, before it widened when she told him to calm down. Taking a step toward her, Iain fit his hands around her waist and lifted her up to whirl her in the air in a 360 circle around him. After he did so, he settled her back on the ground and grinned down at her. “I can’t help it Vi!” Giving her arm an affectionate squeeze, Iain followed her as she made her way toward his felled doe.
When they reached it, Iain checked his shot. It was a clean one. She’d died fast thank Talos. Despite his love of the outdoors and hunting, he had never exactly been excited at the prospect of killing anything. Call him a bit of a softie, but he didn’t like things having to needlessly suffer because of him. Maybe being a soldier had been the wrong calling. Shaking those thoughts off, Iain knelt beside the doe and extracted his arrow from where it was lodged in the neck of the animal. Wiping it on the grass that was beside him, Iain placed it in his quiver with the other arrows and looked around them. He needed to bleed and butcher the doe, but he didn’t exactly want to do that here. So he’d have to take it back to the camp to do it. That meant carrying the thing, so he wasn’t about to slit its throat here and allow it to bleed out.
Vi’s question made him ponder lightly while he stayed knelt beside the doe. “Well…it’s probably a long ways gone by now Vi. There’s a river to the north just a small distance away with quite the field around it, a good place for them to stay. Let’s head that way.”, he commented while he knelt down beside the doe, took a hold of her legs and lifted the carcass onto his broad shoulders. Settling it there on his shoulders, Iain thanked Talos for the muscle tone he had gotten while doing the work he did. He’d always been a strong man, but now he could adjust to the weight easily. “But if you want to go after the buck, let’s do it.”, he urged with a smile. This was a time to make her happy, not him have all the opinions.
“Just make a decision this week Vi, I’m a pretty tough guy, but I don’t know if even I can haul this around for that long.” Cocking his head to the side, he contemplated what he had just said. “Nor would I want to haul around a dead body for that long, you know?”

I'M TRYING TO KEEP FROM GOING INSANE Violet nodded, knowing her brother spoke the truth. A buck that had been spooked twice would undoubtedly keep running until it's legs gave out. At least, it would if it were clever. But recalling how quickly it had calmed enough to stop and graze gave Violet hope. But she had already decided there was no point in chasing after it, and quickly pushed the hope from her mind. That, as well as her brother talking sense, made Violet come to a decision rather quickly.
But she was so amazed at what little effort it took her older brother to lift up the deer that it was a while before she spoke. Her eyes fixed on the doe that hung limply over Iain's shoulders, Violet's attention gradually turned to her brother, a slow grin spreading across her face as he teased her about making a decision. "We'll go to the river. There's bound to be something there." She was grateful that Iain seemed to know the lay of the land in these parts, because Violet had no clue. If she had decided to go off hunting by herself, Vi would have been lost in minutes. Yet another surge of gratitude towards her brother for showing up when he did flowed through the young Nord. This was definitely a welcome break from the life she had been leading for the past few months.
Knowing vaguely which direction was north, Violet began to move in that direction. It was slower going than their previous trek, since Iain was carrying a doe after all, but Violet was content to enjoy it more. Being surrounded by flora was rather calming, as was using her own legs, instead of wearing her horse down. Even after such little exercise, and without making a kill of her own, Violet felt alive. To think only an hour ago she had been overcome by stress was almost impossible. But Violet wouldn't let thoughts of her future ruin her (almost) solitude. She wasn't too worried about remaining silent for most of the journey, being more interested in feeling the wind and grass against her skin. Bow in hand, Violet let her free hand skim the top of the grasses, the blades tickling her palm. It began to itch, but Violet found she didn't care. What she wouldn't do to be able to live here permanently..
Finally the sound of the rushing river met her ears, and Violet slowed her pace down entirely. She couldn't see anything past the line of trees, but she was hoping that there'd be something she could bring back to camp. How surprised her guards would be to see little Violet bring them rabbits for their evening. The thought brought a smile to her face, and she turned back to Iain, excitement written all over her face. "Second time lucky?" she asked him, before pulling a arrow from her quiver and nocking it. Only then did she move forward to find a gap in the trees.
It wasn't hard to find a good vantage point, since they seemed to be on slightly higher ground where they had approached the river. Violet could see it in front of her, but what was truly disappointing was that there was nothing there. Not even that buck had stopped for a quick drink of the running water. Violet tried not to get frustrated, but ultimately failed. A low growl of frustration came from her, before she took another step forward, still remaining in the cover of the shorter foliage around her. She wasn't proud of getting angry, all hunters valued patience above all else, but Violet had gotten her hopes up far too high. But with nightfall approaching, Violet knew that sooner or later, something had to show itself. Even beasts had to quench their thirst, and when they arrived to do so, Violet would be ready. Settling into wait, Violet looked behind her for her brother. "We're waiting," she informed him simply when she spotted him. Something had to show up soon, right? IAIN/TAIYA | 673 | They areeee

Having a dead dear resting on his shoulders was by no means anything that he dreamed of doing for fun, but judging by the looks Vi was giving him, it would be worth it to get a bit of dear guts on him. After all, she could use all the happiness in her life that was possible. Especially with the short end of the stick that their family had given her – what with being forced into this life. Iain could only hope that she would get to be with a man that deserved her, or Talos help him, he was going to make sure he understood the prize he had gotten in his sister. It was a real shame…that Vi had largely been allowed to live how she had wanted growing up – surrounded by brothers and able to do most of everything they could – only for that to be snatched away from her once she had reached adulthood. Though he’d gotten off topic slightly – as he always did – the point was that carrying around a doe was the least of his concerns, so he had no real complaint to give on that subject anyway. Besides that, he’d be happy to do so. If nothing else, it would help keep his newly acquired muscles sturdy.
How he’d changed-…or had he? A year ago he wouldn’t have thought that he would be a soldier for a rebellion against the Imperial army, that was for sure. And though he had the Arroway touch with a bow, a lot more than that was needed to survive a war such as this, what with Skyrim being ripped apart by the bloodshed and fighting. Iain himself thought that everyone that called themselves a resident of Skyrim should band together and crush the Thalmor’s influence. Only then would they have any sort of peace again.
But the here and now only included the river, to which he nodded. “Alright Sis, let’s get a move on before my arms fall off.” While they walked off, Iain kept glancing around them and then back down to Vi, wondering if he should bridge the subject that he wanted to talk about the most, or if he should just let it be. While battling with himself on that subject, he finally decided to just let it go for the time being and not say anything. He’d rather not ruin a fun time for her by making any of those comments anyway. There would be plenty of time later while they were eating to discuss her future anyway, and the family.
So instead he swaggered after his younger sister and hummed under his breath while he was toting the dead doe across the field. The grasses tried to wrap around his legs and slowed him down somewhat and became somewhat of a bother, but he couldn’t bring himself to feel too annoyed about that. At least not after he saw the happy looks she kept giving him. What was a little grass anyway? “Nah Sis, it’s third time’s the charm. So you’re going to have to miss once more.” He added a wink to let her know he was joking about that. “But I guess it’d be alright to change that, since, you know, your poor old brother can’t tote around a dead animal for the rest of his years.”
Despite not wanting to leave the doe for a long time, Iain also didn’t want to have the scent carry. Dropping his carcass on a boulder, Iain lifted up his bow and strode up and behind his sister, his gaze peering over her shoulder and above her. “Something will show up.” A few minutes passed before Iain happened to look to the right. Almost instantly he froze, before he slowly reached a hand up to touch Vi’s arm. “Sis?” He whispered while his eyes stayed on the wolf that he had noticed was staring at them. “Sis we’ve got a wolf pack around. I hope it’s not third time’s the charm.” At that moment a howl went out from behind them. “Is there one behind me?”, he questioned while he kept his eyes locked on the one ahead.
